NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti launch/review day - 2017/03/09

So I think other games I can hit closer to 2100. I hit 2088 a few minutes in Andromeda which is a good sign as this game is bad for OCing in general, but I got a feeling when I test other games I'm going to be even more impressed.

Andromeda tho I think I've found my limited, 2063 at rare moment when the gpu is pretty cool, but 2038 is pretty much my lock and Temps mid 50s. That's a 25/400 OC. But as I said learning how bad Andromeda hates OCing I think that's decent.

I need to not be lazy and check other games or run firestrike

These aftermarket partner cards just refuse to go in stock near me. Jesus. And what's up with EVGA bumping the price on their hybrid cooler? Not that it matters since it's not in stock ever.

When are vendors going to get off their butt and offer a full coverage water block card in a closed loop? It seems so obvious to me. I have little interest in the current options. I haven't bought anything with a radial fan since my Radeon 1900xtx and that's not changing. :)

This is a really good point! I totally would have gone for this, if it were an option.

First review I've seen for one of the new EVGA cards with the new cooler type. (They are reviewing the SC2 variant)

Appears to be quiet good

Hopefully, the FTW3 is even better.

So if you were like me refreshing on FTW3 day and got one, you might want to check your account since there were website issues. I had a double order.

I made the joke I was going to be double charged and in looking yesterday to see if the shipping date had been modified I had multiple orders even though I only received confirmation for one. Could have cancelled via website but called EVGA directly to get it clarified as Amazon CS has me gun-shy to change pre-orders anymore.

Ha, I bought 4 Aorus cards, bloody PayPal said error making payment, when it actually had! Could say I felt panicked:)

I think I may be starting to regret getting the Armor.

I only get 21440 in Fire Strike with the default clocks and 110% power.

I feel like it may be throttling itself or I just got unlucky.

I haven't spent much time with the benchmark, but that doesn't seem bad. I guess it depends on what CPU, etc.

You can figure out what's happening by using MSI Afterburner and logging or putting an overlay to see clocks. FWIW your score beats mine and I'm using 7700k, but didn't go to much trouble shutting down background processes and such.

Mine's the paid version of the benchmark and I ran at default settings. Got 20,435 just now (29971 graphics / 13090 physics / 8032 combined). When I compare online it says it's faster than 98 percent of results.

So I am having an issue where NO Doom games will start on my computer. Like not the new Doom and not Doom 3 BFG. They crash upon start. Doom 2016 gives me this error:

Doom 3 BFG gives no error. Every other single game I've tried works just fine. Just seems to be Doom games. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. This is on a 1080ti. Both games ran just fine on my 980 ti. Before and after Windows 10 Creators update.

Seems like it's trying to launch it with Vulkan and I could not get the game to start with that either (even on my old 1080 a few weeks back). I don't know what the problem is with Vulkan now, but when I deleted the cfg-file and the game started with OpenGL it worked fine, until I changed to Vulkan again..

Well I'm officially impressed with the cooler that Aorus has here. I been around some hot ass cards in recent years and the fact I'm playing Andromeda at 4k smooth as silk locked 60hz, with my Temps staying mid 50s and maybe sometimes maybe cracking 60, is pretty incredible.

So I'm only hanging onto the evga pre order because it's been my go to gpu for years now, but I got a feeling I'm keeping my Aorus.

Thanks for this. It makes me feel a bit better. I always feel like my gpus aren't performing as well as they should. Hopefully you can get yours to perform a bit better though.

Yeah I can't get anything to work. Vulcan, non-Vulcan, Doom 3 BFG. Nothing Doom related that I have will start at all. It's very weird since the other games I've tried all worked (Batman Arkham Knight, Quantum Break, Rise of the Tombraider, etc).

That is being cooled with liquid nitrogen though. However this card on water can do ~2250/11500Mhz that should get you closer to OC TXp performance (w/o a volt mod).

I doubt it can even do 2100 game stable on water . Maybe for quick benchmark scores.

Nvidia seem to push Pascal to its clock limits already, and they have all those checks and limiters in place.

Now EVGA have no way to sell KPE based on flaky ASIC scores as Nvidia made it unreadable to discourage such practices.

I rather save on Volta in another quarter if EVGA wants an arm and leg for KPE.

I forgot an if... and it's a big IF.

GV102/104 won't be a thing next quarter. We'll probably get GV100 for HPC users and, if we're lucky, a GV106/107 equivalent to take down Polaris 20 and take the value segment up a notch.

That does seem very weird, I would assume it's also OpenGL related then since it affects Doom 3 too.

I'm guessing you have tried re-installing the drivers? Maybe try some older ones and see if it helps.

LOL it's £900 in the UK, like 30% more than the US...

There's been an incredible price inflation on the third-party 1080ti's in the UK (maybe all Europe?). Starting to wonder if this is some shady gentleman's agreement with the major retailers, because Nvidia's own store is still $1 = £1 (which is what you'd expect after currency conversion + tax).

Managed to get an Aorus Xtreme for £800, which is still inflated, but places like Overclockers want £860.

I'm not sure what a review would say exactly. The card will clock somewhere >2GHz, the card will be cooler than the FE under load, the card will be slightly more expensive than stock.

It is the only (well, with the other EVGA models) that is still a 2 slot cooler while all the others have gone to 2.5/3 slot designs so I am very interested in how well it cools.

My crystal ball says it will be at 73C.

I applaud you guys who had the patience to wait for the FTW3, but apart from their customer support I didn't really think it was a card worth waiting for when most other cards perform pretty much the same on all fronts.

I've been really happy with my MSI Gaming X that I've had for 2 weeks now and while it was a bit expensive, I do not regret the upgrade from my old 1080. Time to start saving for the 1180Ti, because if I know myself I'm probably gonna want to buy that too.. 1440p 165Hz is both a blessing and a curse.

The SC2 uses the same cooling technology but on 2 fans and the only review for it right now says it's cooling is really good.

The Zotac has had the best cooling for the speeds out of the box in my tests as well as being pretty much the most quiet card at load. Really wonder how a 2 slot card like the FTW3 will stack up against these bigger 3 slot behemoths.

I have one on pre-order but I'll most likely cancel since the Zotac has exceeded my expectations.

Wanted to get the Zotac (I have the 1080 amp xtreme, love it) but it wouldn't fit in the case for my new build according to max length. Opted for the Aorus instead.

I would get nailed by customs though if they ship from the US

It's no big deal. I do it all the time, and it's often only a matter of paying GST and PST upon receiving the package. Some stores such as the Nvidia store collect all the applicable taxes at the source and even charge you in Canadian dollars for convenience. =)

Corsair were nice enough to send the thing International Priority even with standard shipping so Fedex delivered it this morning.

Got it all installed. +75 MHz on core, 1847 on Furmark, 2037 on Heaven topping out at a peak of 56 degrees. The whole setup is ridiculously quiet.

Huh I did not see that comming.

Wasn't the 1080 Gamerock the quietest air cooled 1080 around? Or at least up there.
Now it seems it's the other way around. What happened?

Double fans sitting on top of each other rotating in different direction. This was always a strange idea to me and the tests prove that the acoustics of such setup is bad.

Got my SC Black edition. Currently idling at 53-4C with 13% fanspeed with everything default.

Should I play with the fan settings a bit to keep it cooler? After playing path of exile for a bit it gets up to 64C with 40% fanspeed.
