steelers aren't a great team. even a hobbled eagles team will beat them. steelers are big game chokers and always have been except for the fluke superbowl run which only happened because of the dirty hit on carson palmer.

p.s. i always WANT AFC teams to beat NFC teams (excluding the niners), but sometimes you have to face facts!

yeah. jerry jones was the only one that bitched :lol

for example, the eagles/cowboys mnf game was the most watched cable program EVER. these NFC east games are ratings gold

Mmm..Eagles barely had anything to do with that lol, the Cowboys Bills game last year was massive as well.

cowboys and the raiders are the same. they both have a large fanbase even outside of their hometown. the difference is that the raiders are god awful but the cowboys are good. remember when the cowboys sucked balls? yeah, the ratings were shitty.

it's not the teams that are playing so much as the perception that these teams are good and are competing (and i guess it's reality because they are)

what about against teams who only look good because they always get an easy schedule? I mean you're playing the Seahawks of the AFC.
At least the Seahawks can win playoff games unlike some other supposedly better teams. :D

FMT, I know you're messing with the Steelers fans, but you can't possibly call the Steelers' Super Bowl a fluke.

Pittsburgh beat the Colts on the road in their bullshit fake-noise infested stadium and manhandled Peyton in his prime.

Because the actual Super Bowl game was so lackluster, people forget that Big Ben had one of the greatest 3-game playoff performances ever that year. In the 3 leading up to the SB, he was untouchable.

Damn right. Seahawks will be back in form after Bye Week and we will sit on our NFC West Throne once again. Arizona just keeping it warm!

Holy crap, Joey Porter. REALLY?

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-3-108/Joey-Porter--Cassel--shouldn-t-be-that-hard-.html

DAVIE, Fla. -- Grab a thumbtack, Patriots Nation.

Miami Dolphins OLB Joey Porter has some bulletin-board material for you.

Porter, who has a stellar track record for throwing verbal salvos at the opposition, fired some jabs Wednesday at New England Patriots QB Matt Cassel.

"I just know he's not a Tom Brady," Porter said. "So if it's not Tom Brady, it shouldn't be that hard."

The Patriots have won 21 straight regular-season games. The Dolphins have lost 20 of their past 21 games. The Patriots destroyed the Dolphins last year by a combined score of 77-35.

Yet Porter said "It'll be good to go out there and get our first victory."

Porter announced the Dolphins defense is going to come after Cassel.

"You treat him like you treat a backup,"
Porter said. "How do you prepare for a backup? He don't get that many snaps, right? So you throw the kitchen sink at him. That's what we're going to do."

"He's a guy we'll prepare for, but that was his first start since high school," Porter said. "So you can take all the reps you want to. This is a totally different game, a totally different league. He's only had one start in the NFL. Take that for what it's worth. He won it, but if you compare him to Brady, there's no comparison.

"You can say whatever you want to put with it. Those are just the facts. That's what it is. It means what it means."
3 games into the season and I'm going to have eagerly watched 2 Dolphin games. :lol

Recent non-division "big game" record for the Steelers:

October 21st, 2007 - Lost to Denver on the road in primetime
November 26th, 2007 - Needed last second field goal to beat 0-10 Miami on Monday Night Football
December 9th, 2007 - Lost to New England at Foxboro
December 16th, 2007 - Lost to Jacksonville at Home
2007 Playoffs (1/5/08) - Lost to Jacksonville in 1st Round at Home
Canada Bowl (8/14/08) - Lost to Buffalo in Toronto During Pre-Season

I think the last meaningful "big game" that they won was against the Saints back in 2006 when they outlasted them 38-31 at home after falling to 2-6 and effectively had no pressure to win whatsoever.

:lol :lol

Well, first of all, "big game" against the 0-10 Dolphins? I think you confused that with "letdown game."

However, I actually had the displeasure of attending said game, and it was honestly not a real game of football. The weather was unreal....the field was literally, not figuratively, 3 inches of mud. No team could possibly do anything on offense. It was the most ridiculous sporting event I've ever witnessed.

And the Canada Bowl? Pre-season?

lol wut.

Just 7 losing seasons in the last 32 years....you bitches can all suck it down!!!!! The Steeler jealousy always feeds the team, keep it up guys!

Everyone is enamored with the Eagles/Cowboys game. Nothing draws in ratings like soft defense, horrible kick coverage and bonehead gaffes on offense. Impressive. You know, the only team in the NFC East playing solid football in all phases are the Giants.

Shhh, don't tell anyone.

I don't like posting things from PFT because they have about a 25% chance of being true but:

PALMER ADMITS HE HAS LOST CONFIDENCE, CHAD BLAMES THE LINE

Posted by Mike Florio on September 18, 2008, 8:38 a.m. EDT

The Bengals look as bad right now as even the crappiest of the crappy Cincinnati teams that the NFL has seen since Boomer Esiason’s tenure there ended. And Carson Palmer, a franchise quarterback who might be in danger of having his “franchise” card revoked, acknowledges that he has lost confidence amid an 0-2 start.

“I don’t think, really, to tell you the truth, any of us are playing with any confidence right now,” Johnson said Wednesday. “I’m not sure why it is that way. We know the kind of swagger that I carry. My confidence is not where it needs to be at all. I’m sort of frustrated with the way things are going the past two games.”

So what’s the problem? According to receiver Chad Johnson, the offensive line isn’t doing their job.

“Before you name the receivers, before you even name the quarterback, it all starts with that offensive line,” Johnson said. “It don’t start with us at all. I think it starts with the offensive line. It’s going to have a trickle effect. When they’re playing well, Carson’s going to play well, and it means us on the outside, we’re going to play well. Because if it doesn’t start with them, the rest of us really don’t matter.”

Yikes.

It’s one thing for Johnson to cry to the coaches about not getting the ball, or to muse to the media about wanting to be traded. But a guy crosses the line when he calls out his teammates publicly, and more than anything else those words could be the beginning of the end of Johnson’s career in Cincinnati.

That 12 sack game from last season looks like it's going to be eclipsed.

Chad, you've got a home waiting for you in DC. Washington, DC--it's safer here.

which was why the "Flex Game" was created... in an effort to give the fans a game that was of more importance via better teams... intriguing matchups... etc. (Everyone wins here! The fan and NBC with ratings.)

Re: Giants sound football

I'm not too quick to get ahead of the carriage... Jints played two terrible teams... and their schedule is still pretty soft up through Week 7. As much as I want to get excited about the Giants (and, believe me, I always do)... I've been hurt by them SO MUCH (sans last year... hehe) that I'm still not convinced they've turned a new leaf. Although... beating the Rams last week... a game in which they'd historically lose (I dunno why I think that... but it feels that way)... I feel like we're an extremely well put together squad... early. The depth, also, is fucking incredible. w/e... I really want to see what they do with another struggling team in the Bengals. They need to beat on bad teams.

Maybe he could make Jason Campbell actually look good!

personally I think that deal they offered would've been taken if it wouldn't have meant a huge cap hit this year. even if Chad is too dumb to know it, he's gone as soon as the offseason starts.

To be fair, if this was 2007, the Giants would've driven down the field after Holt's TD catch, kicked a FG, then spent the last 8 minutes of the game withstanding no less than 3 offensives series from the Rams after the Giants go 3-and-out twice running Jacobs up the gut for 1-yard gains in order to try and milk the clock. Final score 23-13.

The way this game proceeded was a welcome change :P

The hate is strong in you FMT. And I imagine it is going to get stronger when Ben Roethlisberger retires with more Superbowl trophies than Steve Young. I believe he already has a better winning percentage and if he keeps it up he will have a better passer rating before it is all said and done.

Why wait? We haven't hit the trading deadline yet.
I hear St. Louis could use some receiver depth with Bennett toast. :lol

Oh and on the Steelers losing all the big games, I guess that statement fails to take into account thier 15-1 season in 04 when they ended both the Pats and Eagles unbeaten streaks.

I guess it also fails to take into account the two games they won on the road in the playoffs against Indy (who had killed them earlier in the season) and Denver.

I also agree with whoever said that the Giants look like the most balanced team in the East. That is the kind of football that usually takes you deep into the playoffs. Though with the NFC East playing the AFC North and NFC West, each team will have 7 easy games on their schedule which is going to make the wild card race really interesting.

Agreed. His punctuation is shot to hell. It should read "bullshit, fake-noise-infested stadium".

Not necessarily. I can see both sides of the argument. To be fair, both the stadium and the fake noise are bullshit. Therefore, you could easily go with or without the comma depending on which bullshit you are attempting to describe.

You may be right on that one, though I decided against it initially because bullshit and fake as part of the same group would surely be redundant. Either way, the second hyphen is required.

Point VERY well taken. I want bad teams BURIED. This is a good change. Bengals game will tell us a lot.

Including the paid off refs who believed that Polamalu taking a billion steps and a barrel roll while maintaining possession of the ball is not an "athletic move".

Games that end in the first quarter sure are boring... I agree.

...I can't believe you picked a Week 1 football game to try and make a point :/

hobart said:

there's only been two weeks.

so you want me just to compare week 2 to week2? playing the rams vs playing the eagles? right.

I don't know why you are comparing at all, to be honest. It's been two weeks. I wouldn't even compare Week 2's Skins to Week 1's Skins.

i'm comparing because Spectral made the first comparison

i think the sample size is also too small and that statements about who is "the only team playing solid football in all phases" is too early to call.

I agree.

But using the Giants' 16 points, in week 1, against a divisional rival, in a game that was over in the first quarter, in order to prove that the Giants haven't been solid... or sound... would be incorrect. I feel.

Regardless... lotta football to be played in between the time Week 9 rolls around.

Possibly. But then again, if I said the Boys were "looking awesome" after just those same two weeks, you wouldn't have much of a problem with the sample size.

Did you see the Eagles secondary vs Dallas? :lol

Yeah and Jackson STILL had a better game than any of Dallas' receivers (Edit, erm, excluding TD's). I realize PITT is the pick to win the game but I'm not sure about Holmes yet. At least Jackson is PHI's primary receiver. That's why it's a pickle.
