Overwatch |OT6.99999997311%| Game of the Year

Meant to say this last night before I went to bed, but I wanted to apologize to all the GAFers I was playing the Winter Mystery mode with last night - I don't know what it is about that mode that gets me annoyed so much but I get tilted so easily when playing it. I get more upset than I do when I'm playing comp! I think it's a mixture of the loot box rewards and the fact that the games are either a steamroll or a complete stall. It never feels like a "good" game to me, like "oh we were evenly matched, it was a good loss." It's always "the game gave us three Anas and two Lucios, and gave them three Zaryas and two D.Vas. Welp."

I do have fun playing it when I can divorce myself from the idea of winning and the fact that it's supposed to be a joke mode, like when I nanoboosted our Mercy and she dueled a molten core Torb (and won!) but when you get into the cycle of run in, die immediately to an ult, switch to new character, run in, die immediately to another ult, and it's impossible to build any momentum unless the game lets you....bleh.

Anyway, just wanted to say sorry to the GAFers if I got a little too PO'd!
I understand, I'd be a bit tilted too if I wasn't able to insta-lock Torb.

Im having the worst time playing horrible arcade modes to grind loot boxes

Why do we have to freaking win and why cant we get loots in normal modes. So frustrating playing garbage like random heroes

Lol I know how you feel. It can definitely feel like a chore. Lost so many Mystery Hero games in a row this morning that I just stopped playing to take a break.

if it helps you can do 6v6 no limits. if you're lucky, you can convince your team to do a super cheesy comp and get easy wins that way

I should switch to that. I cant do random heroes

yeah i didn't realise that any arcade queue counts for the loot boxes but it does. 6v6 no limits is so much more bearable.

yesterday i was playing with a friend who only needed one more win to reach 9, there was 90 minutes before the reset, and we went on 6v6, convinced everyone to go winston by spamming at char select and won pretty easily. <3

So lots of us want them to bring us something beyond comics to give us significant Overwatch story info. Would we be open to a 5 hour paid campaign episode for $15 that? Or would we rather have like a substantial CGI web series to fill us in?

Idk I feel like I want more story and Overwatch atmosphere added into the game somehow?

Id take either but i want some books to go with it. Something other than comics i can put on my shelf.

It's a fun mode that helps me learn heroes I'm awful with, but goddamn is there rarely any teamwork in it. I'm almost never on a team that understands the concept of grouping up.

you could just go to qp/comp and get the boxes from leveling

Yesterday was such a fun day.

Started my day by doing my last placement game and got a Draw on Anubis. Ending my placements with 5L-4W-1D, I was placed in Gold at 2338. This was the lowest I've ever been. For reference, I was placed at 2465 at the start of Season 2 where I managed to get a high of 2847 only to end the season on 25something.

I felt pretty down but I jumped right back in and got matched with what was the single best team of randoms I've ever played with. After our first win, we chose to stay as a team and together, even without mics, we dominated. I must've played 9 games with them and we only lost one. My 2338 quickly turned into 2657 in no time. I got a few '_ added you as a friend' notifications (I play on Xbox One) and before I could friend them back while waiting for our next game, Comcast's internet goes down and I drop.

I felt bad and bummed because who knew where my rank could have gone. Got back on late at night and forgot to friend them back so I'll have to do that next time. Really, really needed that confidence boost.

Just did my first placement match since my friend isn't going to play comp for a while and I was waiting on her. Went as D.Va - won Nepal KOTH 3-1, and I went 42-6 with a game-winning triple kill nuke into a Graviton Surge. Was pretty awesome.

You were a bit incendiary.

Well, yeah. If I can't play Torb, why even bother playing?

I just had a 1v1 match where the guy quit/disconnected after two rounds (and I had lost both) and got a free win. Easier than any other arcade mode victory I've had!

1 thing I'm confused about the new sym is how is her shield generator stats recorded as? Doesn't seem to have any stat tracking for it.

Hi, guys. I bought this game during the Black Friday sales and have only had a little time to play it, and I've never played any kind of team/character/competitive shooter before, so forgive me asking a super newbie question: Is it acceptable to stick to 1-3 favorite characters, or is everyone expected to learn a wide variety in order to "properly" counter any given threat?

You can't even say the generator is ready when you use the chat wheel. You can only say the teleporter is ready.

I know it doesn't really make a difference, but still, it feels like they barely put any effort into actually implementing it.

lol our Rein was crying about no one healing but did nothing about the Soldier who went THROUGH his shield to get to me. Seriously people on console have no awareness and dull reflexes i swear

Ideally you should to learn to play a character from the DPS/Tank/Support class just so that if your favorite hero is taken then you can still contribute.

Yeah, the stat tracking is effed for Sym right now. Shield generators just don't count towards anything, so OverSumo keeps registering my Symmetra play as always Bronze level because I have 0 teleported people and 0 teleporter uptime. Hoping a later patch adds or at least modifies that stat for tracking purposes.

I'd recommend learning at least one character per role in case you're needed for that one and then have someone you feel comfortable playing.

Okay, cool. My two favorites are DPS and Tank, and I'm hoping on getting some practice as a healer soon. Any quick tips for that?

It's too much of a steamroll. The team that wins a fight ends up with ults while the losing team is forced to change characters and start at 0%

I am in a very tilted state of mind. I was on a thirteen game win streak and some guy threw so he can go play with his friend in platinum. I hate this game.

I don't play the game super seriously anymore. Win or lose, I just try to have fun. As long as we don't get steamrolled, it's fine.

Indeed. It's painful seeing a precious character that can carry the team mess up. Like a Reinhardt charging in without anyone else or a DVA going solo thinking they can kill the entire enemy team. WE NEED THOSE CHARACTERS!

Lucio is probably the easiest to pick up from the start but if you're more of a dps type of player and can aim then Ana and Zen are really fun to have as your favorite healer.

Went 3-0 in my first three placement matches - played as D.Va, Reinhardt, Zarya. Guess I'm a tank specialist now. Got lucky in that every match I played, two people locked in supports before I had to choose anything.

Also impressive - none of my three games had a Symmetra! At all, on either side! I was quite surprised.

My QP damage/minute with Sombra just surpassed my damage/minute with Genji and McCree. :O

Still working on that 46.3% winrate, though (global is 41.1%).

I don't know why I thought I had to do one of the brawls in the blue box to earn loot. I've been beating my head against the wall on mystery heroes all this time. Just won three games in a row as soon as I switched to no limits. SO much better.

You only have to play a given mode if there's a lootbox on its tile. Otherwise, anything in Arcade works.

Another update? Does that make two in one day?

Actually actually calling it quits now, day ends in a very high high as I completely shut down a D.Va player who's almost Grandmaster in my last match in QP. Poor guy didn't get to see anyone but me almost the entire match. Chased him down, killed his healers, anything to keep him from my teammates.

I know levels don't mean anything but time investment, but it still feels good to be able to compete with a Lv. 500 sth guy.

Fuck the 3 tank meta. Fuck people in gold trying to play a meta. All it ends up being is a severe lack of DPS. 2 draws in 3 matches. Fuck gold so hard.

At 3000, it's just 2-2-2 every single game for me. Sometimes 3-1-2. People lock in Supports faster than Tanks. Fuck, I wish I could get a Triple/Quad tank game going.

Everyone in Diamond is a DPS or Support main. Guess all the Tank mains climbed to Masters. :p

It's called Quick Play.

Those people are the fucking worst. Absolute scum.

I did run into a guy the other week who was trying to derank to play with his friend, but not intentionally throwing. He was just playing Support and "throwing SR to the wind". Funny part is, his Zenyatta play is the reason we won the game. He said "Damnit, you guys carried too hard" at the end of the match, but it was a double-kill on his part that opened up the objective for us.

I thanked him for not being a scumsucking piece of shit.

Dear lord I just played some lousy games on ps4. My team insisted on being the same heroes each time (sym, tracer, soldier, genji, McCree). I got 4 gold medals as Zenyatta, including eliminations with 5 :/

I really wanted to put some work in as tracer but my teammates weren't switching off at all.

Forget not changing, that team doesn't have a single tank :S
Please tell me this was QP at least?

Fucking gold, man.

Koth: 0-1,0-2, 1-2, 2-2, 2-3
Anubis: we get 2 pixels away from capping point B on attack, we lose point A with 10 seconds left on defense. Draw.

I just need 2 wins, let me out.

Your name seems familiar...are you the Prelude I've spent the last few hours playing QP with?!
