how can people say they wouldn't or couldn't do it?

Either you and everyone else dies, or you die and you save hundreds of people.

This is what defines the kid as a true hero. When faced with a life or death situation, the body's "fight or flight" response kicks in. Fear of death kicks into overdrive and causes the mind to focus on self preservation over self sacrifice. Overcoming such fear to save others is the purest essence of bravery.

This kid demonstrated that and is a hero in the truest sense.

A second hero died today in pakistan. Not a good day :/

Chaudhry Aslam Khan, Karachi Police Chief who single handedly made it his mission to take down the Taliban in Karachi was killed by the Taliban in Karachi today. The guy was ruthless against terrorists.

So sad. Pakistan military needs more men like him

People like this make me hate when my city calls baseball players "heroes."

Reminds me of Louis CK's "amazing" bit, that we limit ourselves by designating these descriptors to the most mundane of things and occurrences.

It's terrible that this young man had to endure circumstances where he should ever even have to contemplate such an act. It justmakes his stoic adamance all the more awe inspiring.

RIP kid. Hope his act strengthens Pakistanis' resolve against the sub-human scum involved in these sort of attacks.

I think there was a security guard at an Islamabad hotel who did something similar a few years ago. It wasn't the Serena so maybe the Marriott.

RIP Aitzaz. Courage like that is absolutely rare.

And I really wish there was something that can be done to negate the brainwashing that causes a person to become a suicide bomber. The issue is probably so complex that most governments in that area gave up on fixing that.

RIP a true hero!

I really hope someday there is Peace in Pakistan. I have family there and it is heartbreaking to know the danger they live in.

Ugh, I hate that the genuineness of calling him an hero is now turning into spite as if some are only saying it because of their disdain for others using it outside of some heroic context.

It's sort of coincidental you say that, because I read a story about a Marine that put his body over a live grenade to reduce collateral damage to his fellow soldiers. Heard about the story around 7 years ago and told myself I'd never forget it/his name. I understand there is a massive difference between a soldier and a 15-year-old civilian, but it just reminded me of it.

Mad props to the teen. It's giving me all sorts of feelings; this is tragic and heroic all-in-one.

We may not remember his name, but just remembering the act of a young boy sacrificing himself for the sake of his friends when we read those stories that make people say "this makes me lose faith in humanity".

I don't want there to be more people like him, but I know there are more people out there like him even if we don't read or hear their stories.

I think there could be many reasons

1) It's a co-op school, so boys and girls are interacting daily. Terrorists hate that.
2) Girls being educated, especially being literate. Terrorists hate that.
3) They're Shi'a. Terrorists hate that.

There was no such reason. it was a boys only school and as far as i know its located in Area where there is Sunni Muslim majority. People still think this a part of jihad. It was just a terror attack to terrorise the population and help further destabilize the country. even send a message to the government

HE was police. and there are tons of guys like him in Pakistan Amry

Mr Aslam had escaped unhurt when a car packed with explosives blew up outside his home in Karachi in 2011, killing at least eight people.

After that attack, he said: "They are cowards. They call themselves Muslims but they are unbelievers. This will make me even more determined to carry on operations against them.

"They targeted sleeping children. I walk these streets day and night. If they want to kill me, they should come and attack me directly,"

Now this is true Jihad

They should name the school after him. Who knows how many lives he saved. RIP Aitzaz Hasan.

The word hero is an understatement. I don't have a word for how brave that dude was. He gave his life to save others so selflessly.

A statue at the very least.
It's one thing to be very brave in a critical situation. I'ts a whole other thing to see a guy coming towards a school with your vest and say to yourself, 'I'm stopping him, and I'm making sure I'm stopping him' immediately.

What a wonderful person. The horror that these acts happen have some ease, knowing that there are people as fearless as Aitzaz was.

Now if we can only remind people that these acts of bombing and taking the lives of others benefit nobody in the first place...

Terrorist cowards have won. This man was a total commando and survived countless attacks. He was the reason why Karachi was safe from all the attacks that plague rest of the country. Sadly no more. Very big shoes to step into.

RIP two brave martyrs today.
