Yeah, 5 years ago maybe, compression these days makes everything smooth. Kinda like a texture filter, but I'm not an expert.

Thats usually a post processing effect to remove blocking artifacts. Trust me when i say this, video compression is alot like jpeg compression except it establishes "key frames" and examines the differences between these key frames and the next frames. Its basically like only having to remember the changes. Its actual compression is like jpeg where it divides the image into tiles and compresses them individually, hence the blocky and visible tiles apparent on highly compressed pictures and video.

After learning how Rare operates in-house, I have pretty much sworn off all the their games due to it being the most retarded way to run a games design company ever.

So to those of you questioning why Kameo seems to have better screenshots than PD0, the answer is simple: Kameo simply does look better.

Teams in Rare are kept entirely seperate with an insane amount of secrecy that actually limits designers and programmers from sharing anything in house. I find this to be fucking retarded, as it goes completely against the very idea of progress.

If Joanna Dark actually looks like those FHM scans in game, I'll be impressed. If not, then it cannot be called a next gen game at all.

Ohhhh, right. I thought you meant something else. ~_~ Yeah, compression artifacts look like blocks in video and stuff.

yeah. i know PDZ looks great in motion, like Kameo. These screens are not that impressive (apart from the guy holding a sheild in the corridor)
 
Fact: Everything that could wrong is wrong with the PDZ shots.
- Poor textures not much better that what we currently see on xbox, if at all better.
- Low poly appearance, not at all what could be expected of a nextgen game.
- Horrid aliasing! If they have such amazing free AA, why aren't they showing it off in promo shots FFS?
- Awful awful, overall art direction.

Far Cry Instincts looks faaar better in screenshots than in motion. I was just playing it on a 51" HDTV over the weekend and was horribly disappointed in it visually.

Not to be a thorn here but I totally disagree. It looks as just as good as in the pics(when in motion) if not better.
Many cool effects to witness in motion like the sun blending, shadows, tastefull bloom, water effect..etc. Undoubtly the best looking Xbox game imo.

Ever since the Xbox arrived every fucking game has been labled bad art.

The damn term has been so overused already that its needs to end. Its as if some of the more fanaticals on this board feel the need to come up with anything to discredit any great looking game on the console. They call it bad art,yet more than anything it looks like damage control.:)
 
Wow. Those Xbox Far Cry jungle shots look better than the PD0 jungle shots. On the other hand, the game looked really nice in those videos that were leaked a while ago. There should have been a media blackout on this game until it had been completed imo, this is just fucking ridiculous.

Edit: yeah seriously, the phrase "bad art" should result in an instant banning, unless it's backed up by some solid critique.
 
Yeah the pop in and somewhat blurry visuals(at timesanyway) are the only thing that hold it back abit. Still-its pretty much the best looking shooter on any console in my opinion. So for that anyways it says alot. When you've got that type of lighting,water effects, and texturing backing that insane draw distance,plus it runs at a pretty steady framerate-that says alot.
 
Playing FarCry and just sometimes 'feeling' the sun in the rolling hills, I can't wait for Cry Engine 2.

I wonder if the Far Cry game for X360/PS3 will be FarCry Instincts 2 or just FarCry 2?

FarCry Instincts made me a fan which FarCry didn't BUT the freedom in the pc game is just brilliant. If we can get a focused singleplayer like Instincts with the freedom of the pc game... oh yes. OH YES.
 
Nope.

I think it looks ok. I think with what we've seen, it being comparable to a high-end PC game is the best we could've hoped for.

Look, I'm not going to write a small essay, that will just be dismissed by "no it's not".
Just look at the character models, how unrefined they are, how bad their proportions are and how generic they appear.
The garish colour palette, the unimaginative weapons, the lumpy modelling and the overuse of plasticky bumpmapping, says it better than I can put it into words.
 
so this is MS' killer-app for the xbox360-launch? they should think again...

this is really the first time that i'm not amazed by a new generation of consoles. not to say that i'm disappointed.

Pics look fine to me.

I'm not really worried about the graphics after seeing those 5 leaked videos, I'm more worried if the gameplay will be faithful to the original and these screens give me more faith that PDZ will rock gameplay wise. We'll see.

Doesn't look very good in these pics, which I find strange...since it looked good before. Oh well, guess we'll know soon enough. One thing that I've started to dislike though, is the on-screen interface. Maybe it's the simple blocky shapes, the colors, the font...but I find it distracting and, above all, ugly.
 
simply underwhelming...

Halo was far more impressive for its time. Nothing came close to it on other consoles and PC.

This is marginally more impressivethan the best xbox games at the moment (like farcry instincts) and imo marginally worse than some of the best PC games like fear and Half life 2 (and that one came out more than a year ago).

Far from a system seller this is.

Better stick to PGR3 in demo boths and maybe nba2k6 (even tho its only basketball)
 
I will wait for the videos before I pass any judgement. But the images are certainly chock full of stuff. I just wish that the NPC's you are fighting against looked like soldiers holding rifles, not nerds at a turkey shoot.
 
i'm not sure how i feel about pd0 now.

objectively i think it looks very good, but that's with a base coming mostly from this gen. looking at it as next gen, well, this is where i have trouble.

i'm going to reserve judgement until its released, but i do think rare has gone overboard with the parallax mapping, if that's what's causing the shiny effect - i don't like it so much.
 
I have come to the conclusion that Rare cannot take captures correctly. I'll wait to see it in motion, but XBox 1.5 indeed.

The Kameo team needs to make a visit to the PDZ team.
 
Ok, why is the one guy in that shot DWARFING the guy who looks like he might be strafing? That is just freakin Crazy. I'm still of the opinion that the enviroments look pretty good in this game but the Character models still leave a LOT to be desired and if it isn't bad Art, I don't know what else to call it. One look at Magneto, "Shield Bros" and the Gargantunauts is enough to cringe for days.
