Well Kasavin is usually pretty hard on his games although I haven't kept track of his record as much as some people have. If Kasavin gives it a 9 then it means that not only does PDZ NOT suck but it actually my be...........GOOD! I've purchased shooters that have scored much less than 9.0 at GS but I don't see myself buying a 400 dollar game console for that score. Seems like it will be a good to great game but I don't think hardly any people EVER thought it would be a system seller on its own.

After reading the review I will definitely purchase this game it seems like a worthy successor but I'll be waiting for a major 360 price drop to get my hands on this.

I agree, Gamespot is about the only game website I check reviews at and my opinions on a game are usually pretty similar to Greg Kasavin's. It sounds pretty cool and I'm definately gonna rent it when I can finally buy the system but some people are taking things a bit too serious. I was thinking I'd go after class tomorrow but now I realize I stand no chance of finding a system. If I do though maybe I'll just say screw it and buy this!

Okay, so just so I know where GAF is right now, this 9 means "killer app", right?

The Xboys are screaming killer app but I wouldn't go that far. It's just that it doesn't suck or simply average which is where a lot of our expectations were. If Halo 3 got a 9.0 from GS people would be out for blood.

Fixed.

Anyways, this is definitely unexpected, and I'll certainly have to find a way to try the game out over the next couple of weeks. Still, Kasavin's Kameo review doesn't really impress compared to the others published so far, so we'll see.

I'm surprised we haven't seen too many claim him to be the worst/best reviewer yet though (or maybe I missed it). He's easily the most popular rollercoaster reviewer in the industry. Personally, whether he scores a game high or low, I think he's a pretty piss-poor journalist regardless, but he knows his games, and that can't be ignored.

Rare, you have really returned, haven't you?

*wipes tear*

Can't believe the original PD got that high a fucking 9.9. Just .1 away from Ocarina's perfect score.

Each time you're shot in succession, your health drops just as you'd expect, though Joanna can take a surprising amount of punishment at the normal difficulty setting. If you avoid taking any more damage for a couple of seconds, your health meter instantly jumps back up. This seems like Halo's recharging energy shields at first, but the difference is your maximum health gradually gets depleted the more damage you take.

Didn't Halo work in the same way? Fuck, my memory... :/

And it really DIDN'T deserve it. PD was terrible, in my opinion. A pure product of hype, all the great reviews it got.

I brain is telling me to take this review with a grain of salt. Metal Gear Solid 3 was pretty much universally praised before it came out and it only got an 8.7 at Gamespot, whereas I've never seen a game get so many back and forth, conflicting impressions as Perfect Dark Zero and yet the game gets a 9.0? It's pretty easy for me to chalk this one up to launch hype and launch score inflation, but the score is high enough that I'll definitely rent it to find out.

Hopefully I'm wrong and the game does indeed rock.

I don't think many people buy a console based on one review of one game. I'm buying one but I've had little interest in PDZ, well, until this review.

well most of us realize by now, screenshots should not soley be used to judge a game.

maybe this time more people will "get" it?

Dude, re-read the quoted part.

featuring cutting-edge graphics

I'm not questioning the score, but this specific comment (see above) about this specific technical aspect (the graphics).

Technically, aren't they very cutting edge? Isn't parallax mapping a brand new tech? Not saying they are "good," but they are cutting-edge. Almost in a satirical way, like "LOOK HOW GOOD THIS NEW 20-BLADED CUTTING-EDGE RAZOR IS."

PDZ team do :)

Scored better than Timespltters.. confirmation of where the real talent lies :)

Oh shit, you're right. It beat Timsplitters. Awesome!

See guys. I knew if we waited long enough, the old Rare would come back :).

Well, technically Oblivion/Fear/Far Cry are more "cutting-edge" than that for sure (which I've seen in motion, bitwise)

Kasavin is one of the last people I would accuse of scoring on launch hype. Lets say he is in sort of a euphoric state of mind with 360 I highly doubt he would upscore no more than .2 points from what he normally would score the game. He genuinely enjoys the game and chose to bestow upon it the coveted 9.0 score which imo shouldn't be taken lightly. Although until some more publications confer his sentiments I do think some of the X-crowd are going a little overboard or maybe they are just thrilled the game didn't get nailed to the wall by one of the toughest gaming journalist in the buisness.

The infection variant is kind of similar, but it's a free-for-all in which human players must fend off infected players who look like skeletons. Human players can purchase weapons, while infected players are stuck with whatever they can get their hands on. But any human killed by an infected player joins the infected...making it that much tougher for any remaining humans to survive the round.

Sounds like insane amount of fun

Infection is definately the mp mode I'd go to first if I got to buy the system and game. I can't think of any game where that type of mp wasn't fun

Oh I don't blame a single soul who was going to buy a 360 regardless of PDZ. I would buy it myself after that review but the term "killer app" being thrown around is a tad premature. I await you guys impressions of the game with empathy but I really want to hear honest impressions from a fan of the first game more than anything.

Sounds like the "Dawn of the Dead' gametype for Halo 2. It was really popular for a while.

There's also a Half-Life mod called Zombie Panic that's entirely built around that style of play. It's fun as hell even though I don't think I've ever seen the humans survive a single round
