On the subject of 3DS games:
I'm pretty psyched about Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, although I am a bit disappointed that there are only two tracks from Mystic Quest. I mean, they're good tracks and all, but the game is chock full of great tunes.

Also since Story of Seasons is being localized by XSeed instead of Natsume, the characters might actually have the personality that they sorely need to carry a Harvest Moon game.

New Etrian Odyssey 2 looks nice and all, but I'm honestly more interested in it as a stepping stone to New Etrian Odyssey 3.

Tentatively excited about Bravely Second, but the first game kind of ended up being a disappointment (the funniest thing I have heard all week: On the Japanese eShop, there's a free to play demo that lets you play through the first four chapters, but you have to pay for chapter 5 and onward. If you've played to chapter 5 of Bravely Default, you know why this is a really, really bizarre choice)

I got exactly what I expected, but I'm still real happy about it. We might not be getting any good "Persona Tuesdays" for a while now, though.

I just look at this and imagine a restaurant. Please make this happen Atlus, buy out Ruby Tuesdays. I would love some Izanagi Fries.

The irony of making someone pay money for the second half of Bravely Default is fucking palpable.

Since you mention it, I was wondering about something. I'm interested in Theatrhythm because it looks like it plays similar to Elite Beat Agents. Is there any reason I should skip the first one and go straight for Curtain Call?

Like, does it include the content from the original or something along those lines? I was similarly burned when I grabbed Dissidia only to find out the sequel included the original campaign.

Seriously. How pissed do you think the people who played to the end of chapter 4, saw that cliff hanger, then bought the full game are?

It's the same situation as Dissidia: Curtain Call has all of the content from the first game (including DLC!) plus new material. There's no reason to go for the original.

so PersonaGAF question

it seems that Persona 1 and 2 (Innocent Sin), and P3P are $5 on PSN right now

I'm going to get P3P for sure, but are Persona 1 and 2 any good compared to 3 and 4? Or rather, if I enjoyed those games will I enjoy 1 and 2

They're worth getting and trying at that price. They are very different and can feel quite aged. Some think the PSP updates for 1 and IS are enough to make the mechanics tolerable and some don't (like I think they do for IS and not for 1, and I've heard the opposite as well).

Again, at that price they're definitely worth trying. Certainly, don't expect a game in the style of P3 or P4, though.

1 and 2 are radically different from 3 and 4. It's almost like an entirely different series, but for 5 bucks why not try them out for yourself.

yeah I know they're a LOT different I guess I'll go ahead and check them out though

also is Innocent Sin better than Eternal Punishment or vice versa or is the quality pretty similiar?

Can't wait to get my first paycheck ;_; (will use it to buy a 3-month PS+ subscription)

For Persona 2 IS, it will depend on your tolerance for random encounters and outdated mechanics. The encounter rate is absurdly high, plus the first two dungeons are some of the worst to have ever graced the RPG genre. That said, the story is probably one of the best, if not the best, of the franchise.

As for Persona 1... not sure, I never finished it! :p

I was planning to actually try the game again and this time is as good as any to do so, motivated by that sale. Why I never finished it? I got distracted by the Casino minigame >.>

I can only imagine. I got a collector's edition and chapter 5 through that bullshit ending made me feel mad about my waste of cash, so yeah, paying for just that would hurt a lot.

It depends. Innocent Sin has a terrible encounter rate coupled with watered down difficulty, but it has a better translation and the ability to see the order of turns, which is useful in combat. It feels really tedious, though, and I kinda feel like the events of IS aren't as well put together as the events of EP. I also think the cast of IS pales in comparison to the cast of EP (though I don't really hate IS' cast). EP has a clunky weird translation, the battle system plays out entirely differently (and is based on planning ahead of time for automated rounds), there's a useless compass in the corner instead of IS' minimap, and during Demon Negotiation there isn't a matrix to show you how the demon is feeling in response to your negotiations (which is a fairly useful thing to have.)

It's sort of a toss up between the two.

Innocent Sin is part 1 of the story. It also is the only one of the two that got a PSP remake. People often say the story is better in EP, but I've never gotten through it because of how aged it felt (IS I finished and enjoyed quite a bit).

EDIT: By that I meant a localized release of it, as M. Hundred said. Just phrased it badly, lol.

They both got PSP remakes, it's just that EP was never localized.

I still refuse to buy IS because of this. :(

so if IS is part 1 does that mean that the story will be incomplete if I only play that one? Do I need to play EP to see a conclusion or is it just that they tie together in some obscure way

You need to play EP. Technically you can just play IS and call it done, but you likely wouldn't be satisfied with that at all.

Ok thanks guys

I think what I'll do is buy Persona 2 IS and see if I like it. If I end up finishing it and wanting more I'll get EP.

My bit of advice: after every semi-important story beat in the game, make sure to make your rounds on every destination in the world map to talk to your party members. There is a huge amount of great dialogue in the game that happens there that you'd likely never see without actively seeking it out. IMO, it's what really elevated most of IS's cast for me.

I'm sorry everyone, I wanted to believe we'd see something interesting in Famitsu, but all we got was Marge.

REmake HD......it was worth it. Famitsu redeemed!

Yup.

Konishi is the best Atlus composer after Meguro.

Judging by the responses, I'm guessing they come from porn fan-comics.

Whaaaaaaaaaat

God dammit, it looked great and definitely did not look like some hentai crap......noooooooooo

You very well could play IS and think it's ok but decide not to play EP because you don't think the gameplay is great, but story wise, you DEFINITELY won't go "Well that wrapped up nicely, I have no desire to see what happens next." Honestly if IS wrapped things up nicely I probably wouldn't have started EP, but I wanted to see what happened so I went for it. Still pretty early in EP so I don't have any impressions of that.

Sigh so today's announcement was Margaret uh. Probably not gonna see anything else until the game drops now. There go our chances of seeing Makoto
I STILL BELIEVE GODDAMNIT, REVIVE THE HECK OUT OF HIM AND MAKE MILLIONS ATLUS FFS
. Sorry... had to get that out. LOL.
