Consumers won't care.
I enjoy following the industry at large as a hobby, a bit like sports people follow new player and coach hires.

Estimating whether or not there's a cost doesn't play any part in which games I choose to buy nor which services I choose to subscribe, but it's a nice exercise in trying to figure out where the market is going.
