Looks super cool, although I kind of fear that this is going to act as a replacement for their initial idea of the quest system?

In addition to Premium Members getting 3 new character slots, players will be able to add additional character slots ala carte w/ GU06!

@mhigby
"Why new character slots? I want new loadouts!" Character slots got done faster, they're easier. Loadouts are coming.
Strange that character slots are "easier" than loadouts.
Loadouts should be incredibly easy. They're just lists of equipped items, saved, while Character slots get into the base user account, and which character has which purchased items (that aren't crossed over items)
Likely tied to the loadout UI overhaul.
All servers will come down for Game Update 06 beginning at 6:00 AM. Downtime is anticipated to be less than 2.5 hours. Players may note the following changes:
General Updates
Service Ribbons
- Service Ribbons are quick-to-earn achievements that are repeatable and grant a reward for completing them.
- Service Ribbons are earned by killing enemies with infantry weapons and by supporting your allies. We will be adding more ribbon types (ex: teamwork, base capture, and vehicle ribbons) in future updates.
- Players earn an experience bonus (on top of the normal ribbon experience reward) for the first few ribbons earned each day
- Weapon Ribbons = 10 kills
- Revive Ribbon = 15 revives
- Healing Ribbon = Heal 10,000 points
- Repairing Ribbon = Repair 15,000 points
- Piloting Ribbon = 20 driver assists
- Rewards for each are 250xp
- An additional 500xp if it’s receiving the daily bonus
Alerts
- This is a new, dynamic, server controlled event system. Alerts are automatically triggered and communicated to players through notifications and the
screen.
[*]The Alert type being introduced in this initial phase of implementation is Continent Capture. In Continent Capture, empires will need to control a specific continent within a fixed amount of time. If an empire captures all regions on the designated continent before the timer expires that empire will be declared the winner, ending the alert. If no empire captures all regions within the allotted time, all empires will receive a reward proportional to the territory control (i.e. an empire that owns 40% of the territory will earn 40% of the reward). Players do not have to be on the alert continent to receive the reward. The reward is server-wide.
[*]While participating in the event areas players will receive a percent increase to their experience rewards.
[*]We will be adding more alert types in future updates.

Again, are there any EU GAF players, squads, outfits...? The player list in the OP has only US players.
Also, what kinda limits there are for characters/servers/empires? One empire per server? Can't find clear answer for this... admittedly my google-fu sucks but still.
New players fill out this form: Planetside 2 GAF Players
This is for the soldier that you'll use to play with other GAF players; you may submit any other alternate soldiers you want people to be able to find you as on other servers. You can also opt to be sent an invite to the GAF outfits via the form.
The NeoGAF player list can list can be accessed here. Sort the list by your faction of choice and send out friend invites after you submit your own character to the list. Send a friend request and a /tell to outfit leaders or officers to get invited to the GAF outfits in-game, or have the outfit box checked when signing up on the form and they'll contact you. Note that currently you have to be online to be invited to an outfit.
Graph data can be viewed here.
This list was purged from the launch rush on 3/15/13. The original list can be viewed here.
Thanks.
Good to know i can have multiple characters, hate to have multiple account for same game. Hated the original idea of one character per account.
Hopefully there are EU GAFers playing this still, playing on US servers will have way too much latency probably.
You could always give it a try since you can delete the US server characters if need be. If you can't find any EU gaffers to play with definitely try to join an outfit on whatever server you choose, this game really can be quite aimless if you're not playing in a group
Think there are 3 of us as VS on Mattherson (think we're all in AzureTwilight). MrNothin is also on Mattherson as TR and acksman is on NC.
Here's the portion of the OP that'll give you more info, but it also needs updating by anyone currently playing.
Looks like I need to go bug Bamelin and Jhriad to come back.
VS is popular with GAF, looks like?
OK, they've got good music and have pew pew weapons and a hover tank but... those colors, style... and worst of all, the name. Vanu? It means "wadding" or "lint" or maybe "wad" in Finnish.
Anyway to see ping/latency?
And... I had some other questions but i forgot them...
EDIT oh, yeah, why doesn't the game offer 1280x720 resolution by default? Had to set it from damn config file. Yes, i know it is rather low resolution but i need to squeeze all performance i can from this thing.
Search for the server IPs, they've been posted in several places.
Do not lower the resolution to sub native levels. Set it back to native and decrease the render quality as far as you need to, this decreases the rendering resolution of the game while rendering the UI natively. alt+f displays FPS and tells you whether you are GPU limited or CPU limited. If you're CPU limited, try disabling shadows and flora in the ini and decrease the render distance. If you're GPU limited lower particles, render quality etc.
Running with everything on low (except textures), render distance at 3000 (for starters). It seems i'm both CPU and GPU limited, the indicator switches beetween them pretty much constantly. When no action around.
Gotta find some action...
As for resolution, if i recall correctly from beta, lowering render quality tends to make the game more blurry looking. Don't like that, so keeping it at 100% for now. But will lower it if the game runs like shit when there's action around.
Also, 1280x720 is 16:9 resolution, and close enough to 1280x768 resolution the game offers (but that one looks horrible on 16:9 display) that i doubt there are any UI problems. And even if there are, they're minor. Until it prevents me from doing something... EDIT the game offers even lower resolutions, what exactly is sub-native?
EDIT also, most certainly not playing as Vanu. I'm no wadding and the weapons look horrible. TR or NC for me, more likely the latter.
EDIT is the game supposed to hang up on character creation? I press finish after naming the thing and nothing happens... The indicator just rolls around.
EDIT apparently the game creates characters BUT i cannot play them. Name i tried on Miller can't be used anymore... but the game claims i have no characters.
Looks like the login servers are a bit slow to respond, the name is in use because the character has been created but it didn't log you in yet
Wonder how long that's going to take. Running out of names for characters...
Try restarting the client, I was trying to make an NC on connery to check the changes to scat maxes, took me a bit to login
Restarted like 5 times now. Nothing happening, names unavailable. I'll wait 20 minutes or so, if nothing happened afterwards, i'll try the game in a couple of months again. Not getting to play after installing/patching/creating characters is really off-putting, and i have other games to play as well.
Yea just awful timing for ya, servers are just coming up after a big patch and login servers are hammered, not excusing it but it happens after every big patch

Rendering Quality is actually effecting the resolution. So 100% RQ with the resolution of 1080p just means the game is rendering at 1080p. If you into the Ini file and raise it higher then you are effectively super sampling. The game is rendering at a higher resolution then down sampling to whatever resolution you actually set it at. Conversely, setting it less than 100 will render it lower than your set resolution then upscale it, which can make it look a bit blurry.
how large was the file for GU06?
How CPU dependent is this? Even if I drop everything way down, I can't get a locked 60fps on a gtx 660. I really want to enjoy this, but performance is so sporadic and I can't play it like that.
Holy shit, everybody and their mom is on Esamir on Mattherson right now. I have never seen so many RED enemy activity zones in this game....ever. Dat 10,000xp bonus :O
I'm in a queue line of 26 with a 15-20min wait
Jeez, ppl only play for points :/
I cant wait for Amerish to get some lovin!

Now, I'm always skeptical whenever anyone on the Planetside 2 forums comes out with some magical FPS boost, its usually something stupid like some obscure setting in the ini file, or disabling cores or hyperthreading or some useless advice like that.
So when someone on the forums mentions disabling the pagefile and getting a significant (15+) FPS boost I was ready to just completely blow them off. But more and more people kept adding to the post saying it helped them. Lo and behold, the boost is absolutely significant. Even in the middle of the crazy fights on Esamir during the Alert event I was still doing 45-50FPS when I usually do 30. I would get GPU limited in fights. Its ridiculous and it shouldn't happen, but it worked.
That said, I also have 32GB of RAM. For probably 90% of players, disabling pagefile will probably end up being a bad thing. But if you have 16-32 (maybe even 8) its worth a shot to try out. I was completely taken by surprise.
To add in, the Alerts system is pretty sweet. That massive fight on Esamir had a certain intensity that I hadn't experienced with the game since launch. Hopefully the Alerts combined with the lattice system should be ballin'.
Finally, the ScatMax nerf is a real pain in the ass. The lowered ROF, less ammo, and slow ass reload just really feels like overnerfs.
