PlayStation 5 getting price increases in America starting tomorrow Aug 21

Bought a PS5 disc at launch. Then sold it for a very fair price and got a discounted pro + disc drive. I feel that set of decisions has been undefeated this gen.

The early vs late adoption maxim is getting turned on its head rn. Will only be a matter of time until Switch 2 gets a price increase too (already did in my region btw).

Well...they have to get back that money throwed in the garbage thanks to Concord, Last of Us Multiplayer and other garbage GaaS failed attempts.

The tariff strategy is a calculated risk but Im 100% sure it will be successful in the long run, rather than stay stagnant, and on status quo all the time which is nothing changes and things worsen and abused by other countries especially when it comes to trade, tariffs impose to USA, and over outsourcing to other countries which what happened to the previous administration. Not to mention twisted dei and twisted woke infestation.
Tarrifs affect people differently, so it comes down to which side of the fence someone is. And even then it may not align.

Many things like services, commodities and gold/silver etc.... are not tariffed. So people in jobs involving this wont be impacted as much.

People in hard goods are the ones that feel the impact the most in terms of jobs and prices as it's good that get tariffed.

But end of the day, it depends what someone feels is right. I am for any country imposing tariffs to protect their turf. The US is just doing back at countries that have done to US exporters for decades. Thats why so much manufacturing goes overseas. The most chill way of doing business is nobody does tariffs and just let things settle naturally where some countries and businesses win or lose, but govs and businesses dont like doing that. For example, Canada imposing big tariffs and limits on foreign dairy products to protect local dairy farmers. So we get jacked up milk prices. But nobody seems to care since they dont know better or it protects farmers.

I've always been a supporter of jobs and education. So whatever the gov does (assuming it does help) involving these two topics for the greater good I'm for it. Even if it means higher prices, I support it because I can afford it and I believe people should have a shot at having a good job though I can be the cheapest ass on the planet sometimes. Thats ok. And all kids should have good access to education even though I dont even have kids. Whether it's kindergarten or apprentice school or academic college, young people should also have access to good tools to land a job too.

50 dollars seems about right. I think they went up around £30 in the UK a while ago?
Indeed, which was the second price increase the PS5 had in the UK, overall the PS5 is £70 more then it was when it released.
Guess this is them kinda leveling it out in the US.
this was coming regardless of tariffs.

You guys really need to look at overall trends for inflation over time, particularly food. Because honestly a 10% bump on a one-time $400 purchase aint shit compared to the last 5 years worth of inflationary impact on basic necessities like food.
With that train of thought non digital edition ps5 gonna be 699$ holidays 2028, right before ps6 launch, after all we still got well over 3 years of heavy inflation before us =D

Consoles are supposed to get pricecuts over their lifespan, not price increases, whole proposition is cheap subsidized hardware and make that up on software, that was supposed differential factor vs pc all previous generations(and tons of high quality exclusives, rip on that too :P ).

Welp, I was actually starting to give some serious consideration to buying a PS5 Pro, with a disc drive, in the last few weeks, but this just made up my mind for me. Nope. See you when the PS6 Pro comes out, Sony.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

lol this is the dumbest timeline. Between on/off tariffs, the continued attempt to devalue USD, stupid nicknames for people like "Too Late Powell," Canada 51st state nonsense, TRUMP crypto coin, Epstein files, etc so forth. This White House has to be the most inept yet.

Voters getting what they asked for- more taxes lol BUT MUH RIGHTS AND GUNZZ AND WOKE

Pro console, 750 bucks
disc drive, 90 dollars
stand (LOL)-30 bucks
880 dollars.
You just got BF6, now you need PS plus to play online....that's 80 bucks a year for the basic tier, you rock this PS5 pro to at least 5 years. Thats 1200 dollars. add in a broken controller, because you aint getting TMR sticks. That's another 80 bucks. 1300 dollars. If you get the premium tier, thats about 180 a year. Or 1700 dollars. That's solid 1440p PC money. ATP, anyone shilling how much cheaper console is, is dumb. Consoles only exist ATP for people who want "couch comfort" and dads. also, the shocking number of IT workers. Who just "wanna come home and press a button".

PC gaming is certainly looking very appealing. Not to mention PC has far more games, including many you can't play on consoles.

You don't need to spend over 3K either. You could get a budget PC that still outperforms a PS5 Pro.

You fools realize that both Nintendo and MS, plus other non tech companies like auto companies are increasing prices for the same reason right? Yet you can't help it but be console warriors!
Who's console warring? Both Xbox and PS are modern husks to their 6th and 7th gen counterparts. I just find it funny people running damage control for companies. I don't feel sympathy, all I hear is how much money they're making. The most profitable PS generation. Yet, "please, sony is forced to raise the prices bc of orange man, they're just a mom and pop shop, they can barely keep the lights on"...FOH When Microsoft laid off like 1000-2000 from Xbox. Any justification about "well, they were trimming the fat" was laughed at. But now that sony is doing something, it's "well it's just facts, stop warring". Lolololo

It's just a bit of harmless ribbing of the people who gloated over PlayStation's fewer games but record profits since 2020. Sony deserves to catch some flak over raising prices not long after patting themselves on the back because they made record profits.

The system is 5 years old. We've always seen price drops as these things get cheaper to make over time. Not buying their reasoning.

Wouldn't be surprised if accessories increase in price before the year's through either.

It's true though. That money didn't suddenly came back to their pockets after they were cancelled friend.
Not saying this is the entire reason for the price increases. But the amount of failed GaaS attemps probably is one of factors, unless you're telling me they didn't waste a single dime on those bunch of failed projects (which they probably did).

Certainly interesting. When was the last price in North America for a PS Console? Can't remember.

Welp, good that I got mine when I had the chance.

Don't be dumb, the tariffs are the reason for the price increase.

They waited just long enough for IGN's Ryan "Shaggy" McCaffrey to have to eat his show notes from his podcast.
He said he'd eat his show notes if Sony didn't also raise prices within 3 months of Xbox.

What is crazy is there has been so few impact games on the PS5, it barely feels like this generation has started. Raising prices on a product that offers no additional value seems insane to me.

And console supporters always exclude the fact a PC does more than games. It can do everything else a console cant do.

So when any console lover says his plastic box is cheaper and can do decent gaming, all a PC gamer has to do is say he pays more but can do decent gaming too + every other computer task. And no online fees, cheaper games on Steam/GOG/CDkeys, mods, more settings to tweak the game how they want, gamepad + m/kb support, and gaming on a monitor doesnt tie up the TV which vast majority of console gamers do. I dont game a lot on my laptop, but it's sweet that I sit here and game or do the net, while having sports on the TV in the background.

Oh forgot. PC gaming has just about every recent MS and Sony game too which adds to the gaming library.

No business in it's right mind would risk selling less for 5 year old hardware for a price increase.

The console is 5 fucking years old, increasing prices would be generally dumb move regardless of the reasons. I'm not saying it's not the reason (re-read again if you will, I'm not saying tariffs are not the reasons), just not the sole reason.

Really just need Xbox 360 and PS3 emulationt to fully mature on PC and we'll be good to go.

I could have told you this sort of thing was going to happen in March 2020. People thought they were getting a paid vacation. Nothing's free.
