But sekiro's combat was much more in depth - compared to this I haven't seen anything to sell me on it. It wasn't a great demonstration if the game is going to have a lot of depth.
You are fighting monsters and supernatural shit in Sekiro and you are superhuman..... this is based on Samurai films and a more real style....where you can die in one slash if it is timed well. Other times it takes a few strikes. It mirrors reality very well....

Sekiros style would not fit.

Seriously funny seeing how people for the most party overwhelmingly laud Breath of the Wild as one of the best open world games ever and then I see tons of comments already like:

Combat seems really simple and bland.
Crap generic stealth.
The world seems empty.
Downgrade.
They didn't show any story.

All of these which could be easily leveled and are actually very applicable to Breath of the Wild.

People need to realize that great games are more than the sum of their parts and that you really don't know until you play them.

resetera is probably talking more about BOTW than this game inself.

People really need to stop playing open world if they find Ghost generic.

I definitely agree with the last sentence. But for the first, in my and other cases, I was largely underwhelmed by BOTW. Exploring open worlds is among my least favorite types of gameplay. That said, I came away less worried about that here since there is a map, a way to mark objectives and things that mark the path to that objective. There were rumors of not having that and I hate that in open world games. I just want to get where I need to be ASAP.

Combat I just need to so more. If it's as simple and easy as it looks, I'm probably in as long as reviews about the story etc. are good. If it's a bunch of harder trial and error stealth stuff, or the one-hit kills actually go both ways like Bushido Blade I'm probably out as I don't enjoy those types of things.

IMO, if peole are expecting Sekiro’s depth or difficulty you will be disappointed. I have yet to play a game by SP that has either.

Not expecting it but I'd like it.

I hope they played Sekiro/Nioh and took some inspiration.

Yeah, if you die to two hits I'm all for this type of combat. Was expecting something a little less scripted - someone actually playing it.

owns Galaxy Brain. Still shrink wrapped.
Yeah I basically have the same opinion..

Didn't want to say too much about the graphics because I don't care THAT MUCH... but it just didn't look great. Maybe was the stream quality though.
Hopefully it is due to the stream, because that was underwhelming ....

I absolutely love the art direction but that combat and stealth didn't wow me at all. Will wait for more hands on impressions.
I thought it was exciting, smoke bombs, crackers for doversion, ninja stars, bow and arrow looks like it feels great and there really is no other way to do assassinations and multiple takedowns...
There also poisons you can use and there were ninja stars in the video...... probably loads more..

Watching this back at 4k. I know there is still YT compression though. If I am being super nit picky, at the 5:05 mark you see some average textures on the shack, for example. Again, don't get me wrong, Other than a few environmental textures seeming average, everything else looks really good. I am not even saying the textures I mention look bad, I realize it is a big open world game on current gen consoles, so not everything is gonna have 8k assets.

I wonder if it gets a PS5 patch or a full PS5 release? Pop-in looks pretty minimal from what I am seeing. Wonder how far the PS5 could push it farther

At 6:57 the water doesn't have any ripple effect at all. Either it's ice, which doesn't look, or he's walking on water :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The stealth section looks good.

What this game needs to show though is going inside buildings, as that's when stealth will shine. If you can infiltrate castles and pagoda towers and see the interior that will be really nice.

The smoke bomb looks good. The stealth kills are cool, but the slowdown is a little too much.

I'm unclear how the kunai works. Can't tell how it's targeted or how it kills instantly. I almost think you have to time a button press to the flash of light on the blade, but I can't tell even when watching in slow motion.

Stealth will shine based on the level design. What we saw in the video was all flat architecture with limited ways to actually approach enemies. We'll see if they can keep the encampments interesting and let you go in buildings.

We still don't know if the game has towns. inFamous was like ALL town.

We also still don't know how you heal or what your life bar looks like, or how much damage enemies do.

I almost lost my mind because Youtube app on my Playstation wouldn't play the damn stream at first!!!
It had a problem with the age restriction for some fucking reason. Never once did it have even asked me that before. Maybe it's because of my sub account.

The game is my wet dream.

But Sony games are pretty much showing a bit likeness with each other. Some first party studio should really make a fps game.

The combat in BOTW is pretty terrible and the game just doesn't have longevity for me but was fun to toy around with for a while and explore. I'm most likely buying this game as well and hoping for about the same based on the video. I'll assume much like BOTW people will LOVE this game for whatever reason too... more power to them, I wish I liked BOTW more it would have given me more entertainment for my money that way.

Perhaps some of the people underwhelmed by this game were also underwhelmed by BOTW? I find posts like yours rather pointless as you aren't singling anyone out to actually identify any hypocrisy.

But either way; the presentation made it look kinda lame to me. Maybe I'll LOVE the game? Doesn't change what the presentation did for me. BOTW also looked kinda lame to me.. I ended up finding it fun for a couple dozen hours, so well worth the purchase either way.

Looks OK, I have a backlog of creed games to play (last 3 or 4) so its not the top of my open world need list.

I like the art style but would of preferred an infamous, also the quality of stream and picture was poor.

Need to see more of the combat and its depth.

You people will never be satisfied. The game looks amazing. Day 1!

its from the start that there is nothing in this world will satisfy any human being , thats why everyone has a taste for everything BUT there are others whom has something else which is called " stupidity " and when taste meets stupidity then you got unbelievable mindset for every topic you put

Yeah I really need to actually play this myself to decide whether it's a buy or a borrow. The world aesthetics is pure kurosawa porn, which I really dig.

The gameplay looked very samey to stuff we've been doing the last 15 years with a samurai coat of paint. First off, the movement of the main character is off, he has this boxy shoulder strut that isn't right in terms of animation. Then the transition to full run looks awful, like he's more explosive than an Olympic sprinter.

I'll use the Witcher 3 as an example for my next point. Those environments looked lived in. Ghost doesn't at all. It has this somewhat randomly generated look. Nothing seemed interesting beyond that first shot overlooking the land. Okay, that was cool, go to the smoke. But once we got down on the ground, it fell apart. Everything looked bland and randomly generated beyond the overdone grass and flowers blowing in the breeze effect. Horizon ZD had some of that randomly generated feel, but it was much better than this.

The combat seemed passable for mindless fun, but the AI looked almost PS2 Tenchu level stupid. It doesn't have to insanely smart to be fun, I get that, and I'm sure some of it was for demo purposes, but still. I know Ghost is a hero character and it's supposed to make nerds feel cool, but I can already tell this will be easy as hell once we figure out the AI. And that won't take long. Example. Why is the AI hyper-alert to a pebble being thrown 8 feet from him, yet a grown man can hurry behind him through gravel and dirt without being heard at all? Ninja!

There was just nothing that stood out to me at all. It looked extremely safe on all levels. It's like they felt they're making a samurai game and that's something different, so no need for anything else. Horse, bow, reflections, overdone foilage blowing in the breeze. Just an opinion.

They are probably trying to find ways in which the game is racist, sexist, cultural appropriation, not even females, not even transgenders samurais, mad at Sucker Punch of not using people from the correct birth place making the game.
From resetera standarts yes, but I talking about the generic aspect.

Every open world is generic on their way. I love how BOTW get free pass from the 'empty world'.

Anw, back to Ghost. I already have a historic of playing a bunch of open world games and find Ghost having very unique aspects, not to mention story will play a huge role.

The Stealth sections looked no different from any assassin's creed game it was more of the same to be honest.

But that photo mode wow, a lot of developers should take note

Combat either hard to show off and something you have to experience either it looks like a press x to win. Exploration is just like in any other open world. Collect shit to craft another shit. Landscapes look beautiful though.

If it was even possible for Sucker Punch to sell me on this game any more, they just did. I was down 100% before, guess now I'm at 100%+ overdrive baby!

Looks incredible. Hyper stylish atmosphere, lush colours, badass samurai sword moves that will never get old, loads of secrets to find & character customisation, etc... Shut up & take my money.

could just be the stream did not look HD.

I felt as if everything I saw before this was in the Photo mode now that we have real time gameplay it was a downgrade.

If you don't see a downgrade you are an uber fanboy

Exploration is definitely #1 here for me. Combat is just a bonus.

If people don't like a certain type of game or specific mechanic, then I can understand that. Don't like open world, then this won't change it. Don't like parry based combat, gotcha.

But look at half the comments on here or social media and they say something like I mentioned and just comment superficially. Generic, nothing new, boring gameplay.

BOTW is by far one of the most positively rated games. I would say at least 60% of the people making those comments think Breath of the Wild is good.

I just find it comical.

Stunning game. Wow! I missed a lot, but seeing it in 4k I was able to catch a lot of details like NPC's fighting wild life. When he meets up with the guy in the woods and he mentions the woods are haunted by a vengeful samurai spirit I got excited! I hope the game is littered with magical shit like this. Can't wait.
