So, I'm confused. How do I do minimize with Chandelure?

The game says hold and release A, but it does a different move instead.

Also doing action dojo and it says hold and release X, but I'm not figuring that out either. It's making me feel so dumb.

If you still hold it for a bit after the first move Chandelure will start to have a glow. When you release after the glow it will minimize. Threw me off when I was doing it too.

Figured I'd drop this here: if for some ungodly reason you want to play vs TwitchPlays, they set up a room with the code 02132014. There's probably quite a few other people trying to get in right now as well so you're not guaranteed to get them.

Edit: aaaaand they're back on ranked

Is it me or do some combos have absurd timing that has to be perfected in order to use them consistently?

For combo 5 with Garchomp I had to use my left hand to push B. Feel like I was missing something.

Do you need the special controller or can you use like a gamecube one for the game? I was just wondering if I needed to pick the pad or not.

The gamecube controller doesn't work. The supported controllers are the gamepad, pro controller, wii remote + nunchuck, classic controller pro, and the Pokken pad. I've been playing with the gamepad and the game controls fine.

pro pad works

Oh, OK. I'm borrowing a friend's Wii U and I don't know what controllers he has other than the gamepad itself and the GC ones, lol.

Yeah my only real gripe about this game so far are the graphics. Sometimes they're ok and sometimes I feel like I'm playing early PS2 era bullshit. Hell, Smash 4 has a bunch of 2D backgrounds stuff and junk they cut corners on but it still looks damn good. Maybe I'm used to how games look on my PC or something but sometimes I look at Pokken and it causes me physical harm.

Do the stat points you allocate cap out at all? Wondering if there's any use in paying attention to them or just dropping them in anywhere.

Can you respec?

The tablet thing works ok, but the shoulder buttons aren't all that comfortable for constant use. Pro pad is better for having block and assist on the shoulder buttons.

The game has kind of an EXVS issue where characters have charge moves on two various buttons so it's hard to have them charged, but I guess you won't use them outside of combos.

They look fine sitting about 15ft away from the TV.

I think you can respec in My Town.

Got my copy today so I played a bit of the game so I will give my thoughts on each of the character that I used.

-Charizard, I used him a lot when I played the demo so he's the Pokémon that I had the most experience with and after doing the tutorial I feel that I get the hang of him without having to button mash.

-Pikachu, The little guy is nimble and I didn't have a problem using him.

-Sceptile, He is pretty fast and nimble and I loved using leaf blade.

-Weavile, I love how badass Weavile is but I need more time figuring how how to use him effectively as I mess up with his Icicle Crash.

-Garchomp, While I need to train properly with all fighters I think that I need to spend more time with Garchomp so I can understand his move set.

-Gengar, Like Garchomp I need to spend more time with him as I am just abusing his grab attack to often to win matches.

-Lucario, Love this guy and I feel okay in using him during field phase.

-Gardevoir, Not a bad Pokémon but I need to spend time going over her move set so I can understand her fight style.

-Pikachu Libre, really need to spend more time with her so I can switch from Pikachu's move set to Libre's move set.

All in all the game is pretty fun, though I don't like how you can't break out of an opponent's combo makes counter not that useful in my opinion.

Plus the small roster is fine at the moment but I am really hoping that they will bulk it up with 2-3 more Pokémon as DLC.

As much as I enjoy playing as Braixen I'm thinking I need to pick another character if I'm going to play online. I can't win a single match. The single player and offline is fun though and no issues there. Though I do wish there was a way of escaping from combos and that might be my biggest issue. Though maybe my issue is with Ranked and I should still with Friendly instead.Had better luck there last night.

Next up on my list to check out is Weavile, Charizard, PIkachu Libre, and maybe Lucario.

My girlfriend bought me this, I'm loving it so far. Haven't played much online but local multiplayer is a ton of fun. It takes a bit too get used to the dropped framerate tho.

I finally got to play this game. Went through a league as braixen, then a league as machamp. I like braixen's aesthetics, but machamp is so freakin strong. I did a few matches online, went 5-1 so far. I love how fast you can get through a lot of matches. I can't believe people wake up super in this game too lol.

Machamp feels like a combination of a grappler and Star Platinum

when i used him and saw his super move do 1k hits all i could think to myself was ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA

Played against someone named "cockrider" twice in a row....

Did they not filter names? lmao

Thats hilarious, why would you want that name to be blocked? i want to go against this comedian one day.

the graphics would be really nice if they'd remove the Vaseline filter.

Just competitive-fighting games?

I want more Pokemom games in general. We don't get nearly enough of those!

I love Pokemon spinoffs, but I was always dreamed of an 3D-action arena pokemon game. Pokken field-stage is the closest we got so far (Pokepark was the original seed, but the gameplay was too simplified).

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Get Capcom to develop a sequel to Pocket Fighters...Pocket Monster Fighters.

I played too much today, M'kay. Just three more characters.

Weavile - projectile game is weak, middling damage, good combos. I couldn't find ways to be unpredictable and open the opponent up. The icicle pad practically requires a quarter circle motion if you want to hit anything with it.

Blaziken - projectile game is moderate, strong damage, huge windups on everything, strong combo game. Closing in on opponents in 3D mode feels a lot harder than it should be. Cancel game is stronk for evading.

Machamp - projectile game is weak, defense is strong. Damage is insane. Setup game is really goooooood.

The only one I like out of these three is Machamp. Even If you're up against a beam bastard, the damage is so high that being patient is worth it. He also has a lot of option to surpise the opponent (forward dash, body slam, low punch combo, charged cross chop, etc.) As of right now, usually no one has an answer for the moving grab. He appeals to me because he can be decently viable as a 'fundamentals' character, unlike Blaziken and Weavile. My combo game is not very good right now.

Online
I had several games with lag today. I really really don't understand why Namco fighting games have to use netcode that completely fucks up your inputs. Gundam, Tekken, This game, Smash.

I've played hundreds of hours of Dark Souls 2 PvP. I've been lag stabbed hundreds of times, and been front stabbed dozens more. Had attacks whiff that should have landed more than I can count a thousand times over, and had to deal with opponents short warping around the battle field on occasion.

Y'know why all of that shit doesn't bother me?

Because Dark Souls 2 doesn't add latency to my inputs or hitch/dsync/halt the game, even when my opponent is on a Russian Federation 56k phone modem thousands of miles away!!! If you are fighting your controls, no matter the source of the problem, you cannot fight effectively. You can't free up your mind to think of a strategy and let your body/muscle memory do the talking if you have to anticipate lag or deal with the game coming to a halt.

When I played SFV a couple weeks back, I didn't have much of a problem with online (surprising, considering the fallout here on GAF). I noticed that the game skips forward a bit rather than mess with your inputs when it does mess up.

Put that shit in this game.

Shit list of the day:
Gardevoir
Pikachu
Pikachu Libre
Long Range grabs

Mewtwo should be banned from competitive play

Beam spam? Wait it out. I've fought quite a few Dark Mewtwos that can't handle the waiting game.

Agreed!! This game is super unique and is just a breath of fresh air for fighting games in my opinion

(Not that fighting games games have felt stagnant, it's just that, once you get your hands on Pokken you realize it doesn't feel close to anything else out there)

I really want this game to do well because I want to see this become a series!

I got absolutely nuked from orbit by a Shadow Mewtwo online.

My poor Blaziken :(

Matchmaking is pretty good so far. I haven't really been matched with anyone that was just so much better than me, it was unfun, as is the case with a lot of games, especially fighting games.

Has the GameStop pricing error been discussed yet? I took a copy of their circular to Bestbuy and price matched it to $39.99.

Games a lot of fun so far. Took a bit to warm up to and find a favorite character but love the phase concept and presentation. Been using Lucha Pika, Blaziken, and Lucario so far. Couldn't quite get used to some of the other guys.

Had to turn Nia's voice off during the matches, and for some reason she keeps calling my Pokemon Weavil in between rounds even though I never use him lol. I really have no idea why she's doing that.

Gardevoir is amazing! I love the keep away style, charging up calm minds, her projectile game, future sight traps and all the weird stuff you can do with her. Feels like she dominates in the duel mode, although that might just be an early impression. Magical leaf in the air is so cool.

high res waifu

She's talking about her own pokemon. But yeah, switched her chatter off and changed the language to JP to make it tolerable.

i find braxien to bw pretty damn annoying and deadly (shes the only character i picked up and i find in duel phase her fire blast being able to bring on a constant pressure is seriously something that seems quite broken in my eyes i did a lot of matches where i just forced the opponent to guard because of fire blast)

also in field phase her standard y combo is pretty nice since u can mix up the last hit)

aside from that the game is fun but holy shit is the online bad for me (iv gotten dced like 10 out of my 20 games thus far and its seriously starting to annoy me (all my poke gold i earned keeps being taken away from me when i did no wrong D:

Haven't played a regular Mewtwo yet but Shadow Mewtwo doesn't seem broken and I assumed he would be. He's a glass cannon like Seth from SF4, if you get in there and overwhelm him there's not much he can do.

Braixen is fun but definitely not beginner friendly. Her combos are tricky and she's designed such that your playstyle needs to be centered around getting opportunities for Sunny Day so you can use her enhanced specials.

All of the other characters you mentioned are more beginner friendly than she is.

Thanks. That's just great. Hadn't realized I picked one of the harder characters to focus on. Oh well. Guess that has it's own benefits too.

Man I'm having difficulty closing into turret Chandelures and Suicunes. Leaf tornado gets cancelled hard by their projectiles and one wrong dodge and I'm eating a 100+ damage laser to the face.

And oh my God, Suicunes chip damage is absurd.

It feels so good to do these juggles and Bullet Seed Prep mixups with Sceptile though.
