Pokkén Tournament |OT| King of Iron Tail Tournament

Wow, the ranked match maker put me against the same guy 3 times in a row. I beat him all 3 times, and at the 3rd match I ranked up to D1 and he deranked from C5 to D1.
I don't feel too bad since it was my machamp vs his gardeviour, and that matchup is annoying.

In fairness, I think that matchup is equally annoying for us Garde players. It's scary knowing a single mistake can take us down to half health

Typically I linger on the post match menu as I always end up with rematches if I leap back into matchmaking as fast as possible.

Also it's amazing how much better you play when you make a note with yourself to just keep your cool, having so much more fun and success today.

I've dreamed about this game 2 nights in a row.

Last time that happened was with Smash Wii U and then before that Pokemon Red for the GameBoy.

This game is something special confirmed.

Finally. Grind was stupid.

Don't think I'll bother with the extra league now that I finally got the last support set and Shadow Mewtwo.

I think the boss Mewtwo must've just decided to dial down the difficulty on the sly on my fourth attempt, dude was significantly less psychic so to speak on the set I actually won on.

Then I found out I still have to do another league to unlock the last bits and pieces....
At least now I can finally check out Mewtwo's moves so I know what to do against a good one.

Yeah, that's definitely the case with the difficulty dropping after a couple losses. Shit felt unsatisfying after beating him. :S

Yeah, like don't get me wrong, he was some pretty creamy bullshit but that's to be expected from a fighting game boss, after getting so close to victory when he was still bringing the pain it was kinda anticlimactic for him to just get straight up squashed on the next attempt.

We're those consecutive losses and you went right back into battle? I never had his difficulty drop that I noticed, but I always quit out to reevaluate and decompress.

Fuck, I don't know what to do against good Sceptiles

Just fought a dude with 80% win rate and he completely wrecked me

I have no idea what Pikachu Libre can do to counter the fullscreen grab

I am terrified of the day I run into a good Sceptile player. His speed, range, set ups and mid range grab seem like they provide an answer to everything in Gardevoir's toolset

So does anyone know when Amazon is going to be getting more Hori Pad's in stock? Just ordered one today.

Good question. Seems like Nintendo, again, underestimated demand.

Hell, even the game itself is actually sold out at a few places in the UK (Amazon/GAME)

I've been looking around for one too, since I didn't have the money for it at release. Gamestop's site for it says "preorders ship 4/8/16" so I assume that means they're getting more stock on the 8th.

You can have a pokemon fighting game thats basically Street Fighter WITH the variety that pokemon brings. Just look at Sceptile and the crazy moves he brings. What you want sounds more like Virtua Fighter, a fighting game based off real fighting styles, or tekken a stylish fighting game that at times bases off real fighting styles. Those don't fit pokemon and it'd be pretty boring and extremely limiting.

Right off the bat something like Machamp would have to be reworked entirely. Rather than his cool moveset in pokken it'd have to be something more suited to a "real" fighting style. This is the same pokemon that can create fissures in the earth or vomit up toxic spit. Not only does it do a disservice to pokemon but its just not as fun.

Pokemon comes in all shape and sizes and have crazy moves. To limit it to realistic styles would basically be

Machamp (he'd be nothing like he is in Pokken and would have far less visual flair)
The 'hitmon" family
Sawk & Throh
Conkledurr?
Medicham if you remove their special psychic powers, thus removing their gimmick and reason for existence.
Pikachu that can do realistic tae-qwon-do. Because you'd need Pikachu regardless. Or lucha pika without all the flash, ranged moves, unrealistic moves and electricity...

Thats not really fun and is highly limiting, even out of just the fighting pokemon. You can't have cool ones like Toxicroak, Primeape, Medicham or even Lucario without changing them significantly and "normalizing" them which isn't what pokemons about.

Sorry for the late reply. You don't seem to understand, I WANT Toxicroak, Primeape, Medicham, Gallade, and Lucario, because they all fit for a game like Poke-Street Fighter. Machamp's move set is great in Pokken and could easily translate into a 2D fighter with his command grabs. Bring me Heracross, bring me Poliwrath, and all those Pokemon because they can throw out projectiles and uppercuts and traps and do crazy shit like power themselves up. Along side the Hariyamas, the 'Chans, the whatevers.

Leave out the Pikachus.

If I was looking for something like Poke-Marvel, which is a series that has gone to crazy lengths to include wacky characters of all shapes and sizes all their own assists, then we can branch out to include more Pokemon. Or, better yet, put them in Pokken where even more ideas can flourish because it's proven itself. OR, make a Pokemon Smash Bros.

fucking hell shadow mewtwo boss was fucking ridiculous, even using the chandelure spam you have to be on your toes.

btw for anyone who fails if you just hit home and close the app you can retry, even the fight post-promotion test, as long as you quit before it save after losing to mewtwo you just have to re-do the promotion test and you can fight him again!

that homing Shadow Mewtwo light pillar attack seems to be one of, if not the, cheapest move in the game - being almost inescapable (you pretty much have to block), super easy to spam, safe and can be followed up with various combos

Just got this today. Took Braixen online and did well in friendly matches. Is she a decent Pokemon overall, or am I in for a whopping when I move to ranked?

Been maining her since day one, she is top but she has trouble with lucario. His zoning beat yours and his frame data is better. He is pretty hard to punish.

Actually I found that the pillar when he does an air dive to have a deceptively huge hitbox and way more annoying than that homing pillar.

Is that amiibo card going to be worth any money? Should I hold onto it?

It's only going in the first prints of the game so maybe?

I love the music in this game so much, so happy to finally have a gamerip of it. Spring Break is coming up in a couple days and I can't wait to get back into this game, it's so much fun.

Also since we're sharing trainers...

Is there a reason that Blaziken is getting through every single one of my "counter" attacks? Like just breaking right through them all, they aren't hurting it.

There are moves that pierce through counter attack. You do them by holding down the button and charging them up. I don't play Blaziken, but I know Charizard's midair X footdive can be charged like that.
