Being Mormon is the new Gay.
If gay people had worked toward suppressing other people's civil rights, sure, there might be the vaguest of similarities.

I don't have a problem with Mormons, they're born that way.
Speaking of which, have you settled on my reward yet?I've always said that Romney is the nominee (even did an avatar bet with Gruco last year), but wasn't sure about the general election.
Interesting in that the argument used against the birthers was that their line of thinking was completely made up and had not even a shred of corroboration anywhere in reality. And in fact, there is a document from Obama's own publisher saying he was born in Kenya (editorial mistake, an attempt at marketing, or whatever).
Glenn Beck is possibly a murderer? Interesting.
Mitt Romney bullied and assaulted people evaluate they are gay, and may, in fact, be a sociopath? Interesting.
The Mormon thing should really be a non-issue, as there many many politicians, actors, musicians, authors and so on that are Mormon nationwide.
Being Mormon is the new Gay.
TBF, being gay is still the old gay in much of the country.
Cold as ice.Oh, not yet. You don't have to wear it until the convention anyways.
I was thinking about doing the controversial 'Don't renig' bumper sticker, but that would be too cruel. It will probably be a Bachmann one instead.

That's why I only make bets I know I can win

As a masochist, I almost want to see Romney win (outside of some crazy outside occurrence, like the world falling apart in nuclear meltdown that Obama caused) just to see you revel in it. Obviously (maybe not) you wouldn't actually want it to happen, but you are trying to will it to happen, if only to finally win ONE bet. The bitter tears here would be hilarious.
I'd probably laugh a good 10 minutes before getting depressed
I love it but are these instances of stupidity being covered in the general media? I stopped watching tv a long time ago so I have no clue if CNN or anyone actually reports this stuff.Romney's fail parade continues:

Well, whenever Obama's campaign puts it in an ad, they accuse Obama of persecuting rich people. Does that count?I love it but are these instances of stupidity being covered in the general media? I stopped watching tv a long time ago so I have no clue if CNN or anyone actually reports this stuff.
Unless Mormons are no longer allowed to marry and gays are pouring billions into making sure it stays that way, this is kind of a dumb statement.AlteredBeast said:Being Mormon is the new Gay.
I have nothing against Mormon politicians on the basis that they're Mormon (Harry Reid), as long as they don't mix up church and state.

You're worried about the wrong Christians.I have nothing against Mormon politicians on the basis that they're Mormon (Harry Reid), as long as they don't mix up church and state.
Well I'm just going based on this guy:Most don't as far as I know. It isn't like evangelists where the church is a huge and visible political force in choosing and endorsing candidates and at the forefront of many big issues. It is usually just a very small swatch of issues, like gay marriage, etc. Even then, politicians who are mormon are still divided on the issue because the church is typically indirect on most public items.
Mormons are hardly the only ones who do it, but you know.Chichikov said:You're worried about the wrong Christians.
I mean, it's pretty much the evangelical mainstream position in this country that the government draw its power from God and they generally call for hot hot butt sex between church and state.
Mormons politicians try their best to not even mention their faith.

Question: Wasn't Marco Rubio in favor the DREAM act? How would it make sense for him to back up Romney to Hispanics if that's the case?
Not THE Dream Act; he fiercely opposed that. He only supports his own watered down version of it.
Primarily because "evangelical" doesn't have the same political negatives as "mormon", and with the former being more successful at nationwide influence in general that's the group to worry about. Otherwise they both trend fairly fundamentalist and have followed their own "Christian nation" worldview. You're worried about the wrong Christians.

Let's be clear -- being Mormon is nothing like being gay, either in perception or treatment or political prospects. It's a terrible comparison no matter how AB meant it.
And there will be a moment, whether by SuperPAC ad or a news segment nearing the convention ("getting to know Mitt Romney") when it will be addressed. It should be, too. I see know reason why it should be off limits.
Meh. The Obama campaign won't do it, and if a SuperPAC does, his campaign will disavow it.

Which Obama should endorse as a building block for more expansive, comprehensive legislation. Can you imagine the freak out if Obama basically said the bill was a gateway to a bigger Dream Act, and even immigration reform? The house would shitcan the bill and Rubio would have no one to blame but his party. And Hispanics would get one last example of far right extremism before going to the polls
I think it's safe to assume that every bill from here to November will have a poison pill.I fully expect Obama to endorse Rubio's DREAM act as a first step, assuming it's not loaded with a poison pill.

Like Healthcare reform?

Sad that none of these groups or people could do this without the president coming forth.I made a thread about it, but yes NAACP has come out in support of gay marriage. Dat Obama domino effect.
So here was a telling exchange that happened on Bill Maher's show yesterday:
http://readingisforsnobs.blogspot.com/2012/05/cnbc-hack-refuses-to-admit-that-romney.html
Basically, Maher called Romney out on his bullshit for saying Obama added more to the deficit than all the other presidents combined. He then sought a defense from the resident right wing hack, and she simply refused to acknowledge it, even after repeated prodding by Maher. In fact, she just sat there being completely silent. It's truly breathtaking in a way.
