The problem isnt as much republican states as it is democrat states which republicans have stolen, like Pennsylvania.
It would be a lose-lose for GOP.
They turn away federal education money, while exposing that they've stolen the state
Or they lose their seats in the name of democracy

Before the election, I was pretty much voting for Obama because I sort of wanted Obamacare to be implemented (with super caveats, of course), and because of Supreme Court Justice nominations.
I add gay rights to the list now. Thank God he is openly progressive on this subject.

Going off the previous Jerry Brown discussion, with the new super majority in Sacramento does anyone see single payer actually happening in California? The bill already passed twice, only to be vetoed both times by Schwarzenegger. Why isn't there a bigger push for it now that it could actually pass?
This is a pretty brazen move, and I wonder if it'll piss off the tea party even more. It could get very interesting.

Oh my God Kennedy left such a huge legislative mess for Johnson to clean up. Johnson was so shut out of the Kennedy administration's legislative dealings that the only knowledge he knew about the statuses of any of Kennedy's agenda (tax cut bill, civil rights) was what he read in the New York Times.

When it came time to push a civil rights bill through Congress, Kennedy sought Johnson's advice once (I think it was once), and that was at Johnson's nagging insistence. When they met, Johnson told Kennedy that if he didn't deal with other legislative issues (tax cut bill, budget, appropriations, and so on) first, the civil rights bill wouldn't get through the needed committees controlled by Southern Democrats. They would stall the civil rights legislation itself, of course, but they would also stall the other legislation. If, for example, senators can't get money back to their states, they'd start pressuring the administration to back off, or abandon the administration on the issue.

I started to get the feeling that JFK was pretty much a Dem version of GWB. Were it not for Lee Harvey Oswald, the 60s might've looked politically a lot like the 00s but in reverse.

History truly is written by the victors.
He's the one who primarily escalated the tensions with the Soviets during the Cuban Missile Crisis, not the one who "saved" the world as many people like to think.

He sure as hell wouldn't have gotten the civil rights act passed, that's for sure. I think he may have stopped the Vietnam escalation faster than LBJ and Nixon, even though he was the first to escalate the war in the first place.
