I have no idea what happens after the next CR dies in the senate, and neither do republicans. You would think that at that point Boehner would pull the plug on the far right, but who knows.

What other possibility is there? The one week CR idea is DOA on the left and right.

So, Pelosi and the House Dems are saying they're will to concede their budget number in exchange for leaving Obamacare alone.

So, is this a tactic to look reasonable and ready to compromise, know that the GOP won't take it, or are they serious?

Noooooo. Don't do it. It is way too early for that. Republicans won't give in and it'll be one less thing Dems have kept to themselves

That's pretty clever.

The CR that's being bounced around is ALREADY set at sequester levels. This is a concession of something that was already assumed in the current negotiations. Admittedly, there was a lot of liberal complaining about the fact that we were giving this away, so this is a smart way to get that back.

Robert Costa estimates that there's 100 - 110 R votes in House for a clean CR, but pressure from right is keeping them silent. He also says that it's probably gonna take a shutdown for the House to scramble some votes.

That's enough to do it then. Why oh why can't Boehner tell the Tea Party to shove it and just call Pelosi? Yeah it would piss them off, but the alternative is the Government shutting down and then Boehner is forced to argue this earnestly in his caucus. He's fucked either way I guess.

Suikoguy

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
So Boeher is afraid of the far right and tea party. Wow.
He will, in a way, solely responsible for the shutdown?

Well, I know where my mother (an NSA employee) stands on the whole government shutdown thing: blaming the Senate for turning down the CR and not compromising with the House on Obamacare.

To which I stated "that's not a compromise, that's totally giving in", then noting that neither of us really wanted to have this conversation right now and ending the phone conversation pretty much right then and there (albeit with a somewhat cordial "talk to you later").

I'm not surprised. She watches a fair bit of Fox News over there (allegedly just Fox & Friends which she swears isn't as bad as the rest of the channel's coverage - I call bullshit on that, honestly), so of course she'll be on their side... *sigh*

Boeher secretly wants the government to shut down to hurt the Tea Party caucus. They've made his life a living hell for the past three years.

I think Pelosi is going about this the wrong way. They shouldn't be saying, "look how far we've already compromised." It makes them look weak and gives the tea party hope that they might be able to get more. I liked the way Reid handled it.

It's posturing. It makes the Democrats look like they're willing to avoid a government shutdown. They don't expect GOP to take their offer.

It's just making the GOP look even more unreasonable.

but everyone already knows this, I agree with him on Reid's position

POLL: Just one in four approve of Republicans handling of government shutdown standoff

Barely one in four (26 percent) approve of congressional Republicans’ handling of budget negotiations, while 34 percent approve of their Democratic counterparts and 41 percent approve of Obama’s approach. In each case, larger numbers say they “disapprove” of how Republicans, Democrats and Obama are handling things. Underscoring the disgruntled mood, 27 percent of Americans disapprove of all three.

Hm. Boehner may not be able to get new CR through the House. I'm seeing on Twitter that King is saying that as many as 20 - 25 Rs will oppose the debate of the rules for the new CR. But he admits some won't follow through.

I dont have any idea about american politics... I understand that despite Obama winning the 2008 and 2012 election the Tea Party still is ruling america? how is that even possible?

You have a very dumb, very vocal electorate and a lot of these politicians want to keep their job. Plus, gerrymandering, baby!

Also, a brown man is in the white house. That made republicans lose their shit.

Not to mention that even in the branch they control, Republican's received a million less votes than Democrats.

This is mind blowing. I mean... Who is this 10%?

These people:

We the true patriots got sucker punched by O's communist's regime. Thank you, Ted Cruz for reading Dr. Seuss...your children are proud of you.

So let me get this straight. If I don't accept onazicare, I can be fined and even imprisoned?! I could be a political prisoner under this law? Tyranny! Foul. Criminal. Disgusting liberal national socialist party. I have to vent right now...

I love Michelle Malkin and Judge Jeanine Perro. If women were to run in 2016 presidential election, why not these two? I would vote for them over Hillary who would continue this horrible ACA.

@robertcostaNRO 5m

The talk within House GOP now isn't about some midnight plan, but how to msg Vitter amdt w/ CR and blame Reid

So, as usual the plan is to do something stupid and blame the other party for it (Remember sequestration).

Party of personal responsibility FTW!

It's sounds to me like Boehner thinks the Republican party can come away from this ahead politically if the government is shut down after a senate rejection of a bill with just the Vitter amendment. I hope he isn't that stupid.

He'll argue that "the Senate is voting to protect its perks," but the truth is that most people aren't paying that much attention to this.

They should send the bill back with the Vitter Amendment intact... and a clause that states that "Federal subsidies for health insurance will be denied at the discretion of the Senator or Congressman." Let them answer to their staffs, for once.

The party of "Take OUR country back" is due for some entitlement reform. This is not your country and all the rest of us are lucky you let us live here.
