I noticed they had added the ability to view estimates of premiums without being forced to sign up - that's good progress, and it actually works so far.

The problem with that (and the reason they didn't do it initially) is that those prices don't include subsidies and the detractors will run with that to "show" how Obamacare raises costs

Am I the only one who doesn't see the healthcare website issues as a big deal? People have months to sign up. I'm sure it'll be sorted out soon enough.

It's a very big deal. You cannot fuck up a new product's rollout, for two weeks. It can ruin perception for a very long time.

I had planned to wait a year before truly checking out the exchanges, but I just received word my company is going to a low-premium, high deductable HSA plan (I was on a EPO or PPO). As far as I can tell, my premium would be cut in half, but I have no clue yet how that would affect my co-pays (I'm diabetic and have several recurring medications and regular doctor vists).

Soooo, perhaps I'll need to check out healthcare.gov a little more.

I'm actually excited. I thought they were actually they were going to learn.

That's an interestingly positive way to look at it. I like that.

You're right, though. One major problem I have with the GOP is figuring out who is actually stupid(Hannity, for example), and who is just pretending to be stupid.

Medicare Part D was unusable at launch. For almost three weeks.

People are going to forget all about the website problems when they get insurance.

Perception? Obamacare perception can only go up since people will actually be able to get insurance that they didn't have before. As proven by the recent obamacare poll numbers. Whether they sign up now or two months from now the benefits don't start until january anyway, so there's plenty of time to come back and sign up. It's not like these people are going to give up if they can't access the website the first couple of weeks. This is health insurance we are talking about not the latest iphone.

Edit: I'm sure obamacare problems will be reinforce negative perception with people who are skeptical or negative of the exchanges from the beginning but people who actually need insurance will inevitably find it helpful.

That screed from Paul Ryan makes no sense. How does healthcare/hospitals work in libertopia anyway?

Poor people die horrible deaths in pain and agony despiste working all their lives unless those who were born with money decide to be generous enough as to judge that they deserve to live, by mandated by their divine right.

I don't know what is so mysterious about it.

I doubt Obama wins FL *and* OH again.
I doubt he wins VA too.
I doubt he gets NM, CO, and NV, he's gonna lose at least one of them.

:)

sorry it took so long to respond. my kindle died yesterday and i am somewhere that has restrictions on cords.

just saw the nbc/wsj poll. i retract my statement about the bump only lastinga few months. it's still going to be tough though especially when the supreme court rules by a 5-4 margin to remove the limit an indivial person can spend on multiple election campaigns and more states pass voter restrictions.

only aspect that gives me hope that this shift could be enough is the fact that obamacare includes voter registration forms, which means tht in federal elections you will see a lot more people voting.

yeah i'm a pessimist, i'm diablosing, etc.

A high deductable HSA plan is probably the wrong fir for you since you've got constant medical bills. It's basically a catastrophic insurance plan with an employer subsidized savings account. It's great for me, as I haven't had any major medical issues so it's more than big enough to account for a full year's deductible, so what I'm left with is a low monthly premium and a "co-pay" that doesn't hit my personal wallet. If you have constant medication requirements, though, your savings account just won't accumulate so it'll just be a catastrophic insurance plan and nothing else.

Well, right now my expenses are pretty much every 90 days - I see my diabetic doctor every 90 days, I refill prescriptions every 90 days, etc. There also would be an partial employee match.

I guess my question is (and I will be getting more documentation on this, I just don't know it now) how it affects my co-pays. Right now, some of my prescriptions - like insulin - cost $50 for a 90-day supply. Others - like needles and test strips - are completely paid for. How those are affected are my biggest concern.

I disagree. Things don't even go into effect until January 1st, and most people probably won't start looking into signing up in earnest until December. This is more akin to preorders for GTA V not going through when the game is first posted on Gamestop's website months before launch.

When a poll is forever not in your favor, something's gotta be wrong with it, right?

It's never them. Ever.
Actually I dont know if you were here during 2012 elections, but black mamba and pigeon (and few others) broke down every poll, even if they were showing Obama losing to Mitt Romney and every poll that was like that had an underlying problem. From Lv vs Rv to MoE to polling methodology. Poligaf unskewing if you will. In the end they not only calmed poligaf from diablosing into supernova proportions, but were proven right in the end. What I wanna say is that polls should not be considered gospels.

But in Cruz' case, there is no hope.

the thing is there isn't anything demographically that looks like it's off
point taken though

edit: also the obvious poll consensus vs outlier poll thing

Can I just say Joe Lhota's campaign strategy is hilarious? He's trying to get people to vote for him by making it looks like he's just as liberal as de Blasio. These commercials are amazing.

I know it's been said before but let's reiterate: Wolf Blitzer is an awful interviewer. Just terrible. He's interviewing two congressmen right now, one of whom brought up the "congressional exception"... And nothing.

Then the same republican misquoted and tried to dumb down Ben Carson's statement... And nothing.

"It was just weird. I mean, to me, you know, hey, if he said, 'Hey, you got really hot breasts man, I'd love to suck on them.' Then like, yeah, cool. But like, he didn't say that," Shaftan explained. "It was like kind of like, I don't know, it was like what a gay guy would say to a stripper. It's the way he was talking to her. It's just like like there was no sexual interest at all. I don't know. To me, if I was single and you know like some stripper was tweeting me, I might take advantage of the perks of the office, you know?"

"He's a great candidate, man. You know when the candidate like says to you, 'Rick, grow a pair of balls.' I always like to hear that, because Steve, he wants to win," said Shaftan. "He doesn't personally attack Booker. It's all based on fact and, you know, I mean the pedicures ... it's things (Booker) said. He's the one who went to Hollywood and had the fundraiser, you know. It's just like, you know, he talked about being gay or whatever. ... It's like, dude, you're bringing all this shit up yourself."

Short answer: get a job, hippie.

Long answer:
No income taxes. Otherwise, what's your motivation to work?
No gov't health insurance. Otherwise, what's your motivation to work?
No food stamps. Otherwise, what's your motivation to work?
No welfare. Otherwise, what's your motivation to work?
No disability. Otherwise, what's your motivation to become undisabled?
No unemployment benefits. Otherwise, what's your motivation to find a new job?
No minimum wage. Otherwise, what's a company's motivation to hire anyone ever?

etc etc

This sounds more like some kind of sick anarchy where we still have a government...

Eh I feel this guy may have thought he was off the record. I like TPM but this isn't fair

You're never off the record unless it's explicitly said, everyone in his position knows this. I'd agree if it were some low level staffer, they might not know the game, but a top aide should know better.

Of course you'd still need government. Who else would gather tax moneys to bail out banks and investors and provide guarantees to risky business ventures? Who else would protect the men of wealth and their property from the mob? Who else would put their intelligence services to work enabling and empowering our business interests abroad? And to train and arm our young adults to fight for those interests? And lastly, who else but government to enforce certain racial and sexual religious values in our private lives?

wut was this on record? Anything is possible after Herman Cain's crazy chief of staff, I guess.

on Booker, based entirely on the tone of those texts...he's either in a relationship, smart (ie avoiding Carlos Danger situation)...or gay lol

And either way what does it matter? The people who care if he were gay probably wouldn't vote for him anyway.

It won't matter obviously. Given the stories about him being a hound dog/woman chaser, I seriously doubt he's gay. Still, the tone of the tweets cracked me up. I'll just assume he's too smart to send compromising DMs to women.

This is key. Wall Street welcomed TARP. Capitalism ultimately doesn't resist various government protections, though what should be regulated is often selective due to conflicting interests (hence why an institution that ostensibly doesn't represent business interests is good as a regulator).

Anyway, the list goes on: patents, property rights, federal government's money system...

HHS still should have done a better job with this rollout of the websites. This shit needs to work flawlessly in 2 weeks.

I wonder why the "keep government out of my life" candidate is attacking another candidates personal life...

Booker is still up by double digits. Any ground made up still makes no difference at the moment. Lonegan's campaign can start bragging when they're within 5.
Oh, no doubt. Just pointing out that even meaningless ground gained will end up being erased by Lonegan being so strongly affiliated with the Tea Party. At this point, it's pretty much a toxic label.

It's up to you if you want to take money from other taxpayers.

That's something I would hold off on for as long as possible because you would be participating in the wealth distribution scheme of socialists.

God help me - I may be in this same situation. I’ll know at the end of October, when our open enrollment begins.
I did not ask for cheaper and better health care

As I said...I would hold off for as long as possible on the subsidy for the reasons stated. When we take the Gov't largesse we enable socialist Gov't.
I didn't say no one should ever take the subsidy. If one is desperate one has to do what's necessary to stay alive. But obviously the more people who hold out against tyranny the better.

My family is eligible for the subsidy also. However, we will not be taking it for the reasons I stated.
We're all enablers

Man, the definition of tyranny has really changed over time.
