Obama's speech on CNN is fantastic. The difference in tone between both campaigns is staggering. How Trump is doin as well as he is in baffling.

Eeesh at that Clinton cancels fireworks show thread.

I think I'm going to get off the net for the rest of the day.

It couldn't possibly be because of a potential terrorist attack

No, it's because she's losing

Yes. If the Dems get 49 seats or less you'll probably see a lot of Obama's cabinet stay in place.

That's going to suck for her. She won't be able to even select her own cabinet.

I don't think Obama's cabinet is bad, but she at least deserves the ability to do it herself...

I leave for 24 hrs and return to find a new thread and 40 pages. I hope there's no bed-wetting from folks here, Queen Clinton has this.

Can a GOP senate just never approve Hillary's entire cabinet? Could they delay appointing a Secretary of State for her entire term?

Because I wouldn't put it past them.

Same here. The face that some Republicans have already started talking about impeachment before she's even been elected yet...and I thought Obama had it tough getting anything done...

So does anyone really think Trump will actually give a succession speech tomorrow night?

Apart of think he will demand a "Recount"

or at least not acknowledge the votes.

I'm telling you guys the NH surge is gonna save the Senate. In a way it's more exciting at 50/50 because it gives Kaine a ton of power

Man, you are weirdly optimistic about the Senate and literally nothing else, while most of everyone else in this thread is the opposite.

I think Pence will give a quick one, and Trump will eventually give some half hearted, poorly recorded concession on YouTube a few days later.

I never believed in Bayh. Winning in a deep red state is just too difficult in this hyper-polarized enviornment.

On the other hand, I have a lot of faith that Ross will manage to pull out an upset in North Carolina because that is exactly the kind of hyper-polarized electorate (coupled with pretty weak, generic R incumbent) where no one will ticket split, so if Hillary can win in NC (which I think she will), then Ross will also win. And that'll drag the Dems to 51.

IDT (Inverse Diablos Theorem)

When bedwetting reaches infinity in any given thread, Diablos's confidence rises to infinity in inverse relation

Trump's concession speech is just going to be a 'Welp I tried guys, but the game was rigged and you know what I mean, you just can't win if it's rigged. Peace out!'

There's no way he's going to be graceful in defeat.

He's going to recite that snake thing again.

Would senate republicans trade confirming Garland in the lame duck with a verbal agreement not to nuke the filibuster (assuming a Dem senate + HRC presidency, obviously)?

Not to downplay the importance of winning the presidency, but that Crystal Ball map really highlights how weak the Democrats are in virtually every other level of national and state government. That this slog of an election might only barely produce a tie in the Senate, which will likely last for just two years anyway, is kind of disheartening.

What if Clinton wins, and gets the senate. Does Obama pull Garland and be like "You said let the new president pick"?

He won't and he shouldn't.

In case anyone was worried, we're not losing Michigan this year:

Big surges in absentee ballot returns in Democratic counties during the weekend

Wayne, Washtenaw and Oakland saw 3rd, 6th and 7th biggest percentage increases in return of ballots issued among 83 counties.

Why would the Dems agree to that? They can just nuke the filibuster and nominate someone more liberal than Garland. Plus they are very likely going to have to replace other justices in the next 4 years.

Looks like a joke?

To be clear - he meant (jokingly) that if he were the one saying these things, people would call for the electric chair.

That's how I interpreted the comment. But I can see how others wouldn't considering this is Trump. It's still a ridiculous thing to say. I really wish somebody would explain why Black folks use the N word and why White folks can't.
He knows but rejects the premise.

I hope when Obama is out, he works with the Democrats to get them back on the road to success.

We can't be one terrible Democrat candidate away from ruin. The Democrats need to start winning local elections much more consistently and frequently. We shouldn't be able to just know that the Republicans will regain whatever leads the Democrats make every midterm, that's evidence of a weak party.

There needs to be some kind of cushion where Democrats don't just rely on some huge blue states + the presidency to be relevant.

Really depressing that the GOP's self-fulfilling prophecy style of governance looks to be lining up. Accuse the government of being awful and ineffectual and vote in leaders who actively work to make it awful and ineffectual and the cycle continues.

And then we will be swamped in 2020 with how Clinton accomplished nothing during her first term because a Republican-controlled Congress stonewalled her at every turn.

Please get to at least 50 Dems.

Again- What is 50 going to accomplish? It's not the super majority needed to get anything of value accomplished.

Nothing will change.

Agree, but it sounds more realistic at this point than hoping for 53 or 54, and yes, far less than a supermajority, but that was never on the cards anyway.

Saw the Trump cabinet stuff this morning. Priebus for Chief of Staff? Isn't that supposed to be someone the president knows and trusts? Does Trump not have any friends?
