Honestly after fucking up the Muslim ban I'm not sure Trump's done anything different than what a normal Republican president would do other than decorum and speech. This NATO "pivot" is just sort of following that. I'm glad though, I'm a mostly pro-NATO socialist.

Trump actually believes that because he said NATO wasn't doing enough to combat terrorism, they started doing more to combat terrorism and then didn't give him credit.

You're making the mistake of thinking many Trump voters cared about his policies when really all they cared about was "fuck liberals" even if it meant their own quality of life would decrease.

Partisanship + Tribalism are strong drugs

That being said, Trump as the most incompetent version of a traditional conservative who flip-flops all the time is probably the easiest version of him to beat.
