Just to be clear I'm not defending that view, I'd have no problem with Trump in a jail cell. Only saying that there are arguments out there that this is a useful norm. In that article's case it's just saying it's useful to prevent increasing extremism or dictatorship.

The irony is even if Trump does pivot and start behaving, the second he does his base disappears. They love him because he's brash and doesn't mince words or stick to the script. They legitimately get aroused whenever he clearly loses his temper while answering questions. A tame, more composed Trump, does not appeal to these people.
