Picking Gore would make McCain crap his pants. It would be the worst nightmare possible for McCain. We've seen that the McCain = Bush stuff hasn't gone over that well for Obama. But if Gore, the man who could have saved us from Bush is preaching it, then the states like Ohio WILL listen and believe it.

I'm still hoping for Biden, if only because it'd allow him and Obama to play good-cop, bad-cop against the McCain campaign.

Besides, Biden is funny enough to make it almost seem classy when he drops lines that you'd never think you'd hear in a debate. See: noun, verb, 9/11.

Yeah. He will totally wreck shit. If Cheney's The Emperor, he'd be Yoda.

Fox News is reporting that Biden might not even be inside his home and might have somehow gotten to Chicago.
I'd love it if every single VP candidate had a car pull up to his/her house, and was taken to the event, so they'd all be there. Obama's campaign has the media looking clueless, and I'm enjoying it. Why not take it a step further?

Meh . . . Gore's recent 'get off carbon power for electricity in 10 years' campaign is just stupid. It is unrealistic itself and ignores transportation.

Besides dealing with transportation allows one to further justify policy changes from a trade deficit and national security angle.

Yeah I don't understand the gore = win thing... someone want to explain? He comes with baggage I feel like.

McCain: "Obama is not experienced enough.."
Gore: "Yeah and I have 8 actual years douchebag!"

Gore:" P.S. Yeah remember when I won the popular vote in 2000? And then you guys got 8 years of crap for Bushie? Redo!"

Logically, ain't gonna happen. If he wanted to be a part of the Executive Branch again, he would have gone for the oval office himself.

Hell, trying again years later worked for Nixon.

Well, being on the other end of the world has it's advantages. His VP announcement should come mid afternoon for me!

Yeah, I doubt Gore is interested, but it is fun to imagine. It would be a true - dare I say it? - political megaton.

But fuck, Im hoping for Gore since of his absence in the media. No one talks about him. I do hope he's VP if not, then either Clark or Sebelius. If not those 2, then whatever comes in the way, I don't mind.

has calmed down a bit.
I can't believe he still hasn't announced. I went from interested, to super excited, to jumping at every text message to............I just don't care anymore. Seriously Barrack, just announce it already. I'm so annoyed I think I'm canceling out the text message thing tonight so the cocktease doesn't wake me up in the morning to tell me Joe friggin Biden is his pick.

Besides, he's opened himself up to having the media spoiling the pick because he has to get the pick to Chicago so it'll be obvious by tomorrow morning, with or without a text message. Today was the PERFECT day for him to announce, have the talk shows give Biden super coverage, then have another huge rally in Springfiled. Tons of exposure for the VP pick.

I don't even know what he's waiting for, but this was a total waste. All this focus could've been on his VP pick, instead of the big 3 and Hillary.

Fuck yeah you laugh. The whole day was spent camping outside of homes and potshotting McCain over the homes. The media is mad that they couldn't get a scoop. I'm sure a catch of this magnitude is a nice bonus and all of these fuckers tried in vain but failed gloriously. At this point in time, Charlie fucking Brown has a better clue than these hacks. :lol :lol :lol

Well again, I see things differently:
It simply doesn't make sense to announce it so far before the event where Obama and the VP will appear together.

If they announce, oh say, right now, then we all say "Oh, it's blahblahblah," and tomorrow's event, which is the real deal, has diminished importance. However, if they announce an hour before the event, then that just ads to the hype. We find out, get excited, talk about it for a little while, then the next thing you know the two are up on the stage making their speech, and EVERYBODY's tuned in.
The big deal needs to be the imagery, the two candidates standing together, not just the name on your cell phone.

Also, I'd be surprised if the media spoils it. Obama's campaign has out-witted them again and again, I'm sure they'll find a way to fool the media one last time.

Its a shame that Obama's campaign hasn't fueled this ability to control the media on previous issues. Part of me hopes that Obama is just letting McCain get all that he can out now, and then when it gets closer to the election, Obama kicks it up a notch catching everyone by surprise.

Typically, you want to give your VP plenty of exposure before the convention. Now, there's not any time to do so. There simply isn't the same amount of people watching the news/politics stuff on weekends. So it's at least ONE wasted day of exposure (today), and the next time regular folks really dig in will be on Monday, when the convention coverage will move from one also-ran to another, until the VP speaks. Doing it Saturday may work for the super hardcore, but it's really been a wasted opportunity for Obama and I can't wait for his or the campaign's rationale for throwing away a solid week of potential coverage of him with his VP pick.

edit: And also, I know many folks here hate the media, but they are the ones that will provide the exposure for Obama and the VP, so all this "lulz, they fooled teh mediaz" crap really isn't a good thing, especially when they were so eager to provide prime time coverage to Obama's VP, rather than split time between the entire short list, which is COMPLETELY USELESS to Obama. What does he gain from more Hillary VP speculation. Or everyone else that isn't his pick?

He can't literally control the media as in "set their headlines and narratives for 3 months", but he can avoid playing their little douchebag games. They fucking HATE it, because it exposes how non-existent their actual journalistic talent is.

I was watching something today about the campaign and they were talking about McCain and their attacks. They viewed it like currency. When you issue out too much, it loses its value. They were referring to the POW stuff and how he has gone to the well with that too many times. What else can they get Obama on that we don't know about? I think that they are spent.

Well yeah, I agree there, I just think that you don't want to reveal the person too far before the event, or the event is anti-climactic.

There was speculation earlier that it's being announced so late because it's nobody exciting (hi Chet Edwards). Who knows, outside of the Obama camp.

Yeah I agree...

No one really even pays attention to the political news right now anyway, especially with the Olympics going on and everything. Seems like McCain was having issues within his own party and his own party was doubtful he could have a chance of winning, so McCain started blowing his load early to appease doubts and although it has tightened the polls, it really was only a short-term solution.

It'll be interesting to see if McCain eases off a bit or continues to attack attack attack!

No they just confirmed Kaine won't be. I think they said Bayh wasn't going to be two hours ago. MSNBC ran with the story 3-4 hours ago though.

Its obviously Biden.

I just don't know why they didn't do it earlier in the week. Instead, they've turned this into a circus complete with a gimmick.

Right, but now it's TOO LATE before the event, ESPECIALLY if it's someone unexciting who needs to be introduced to the mainstream. It's the weekend, you simply don't get the same buzz or eyeballs at this point. The rally tomorrow will be watched and be talked about for sure, but it's just not the same as the buzz from midweek or even Friday. That stuff dominates the news, then dominates workplace chatter, then dominates evening family chatter. Maximum exposure.

You know who does that VP exposure thing for you? The media, and they can't give you that precious coverage if you play cocktease, then bunch it up with their conference coverage with Hillary and Bill, and the rest of the also rans.

Eh? Who turned it into a circus? It wasn't Obama. All he and his campaign did was keep their mouth shut, and the media went batshit crazy that they couldn't strong-arm an insider to blabble who the veep is.

Anyway, some new polls:
