Eh? Who turned it into a circus? It wasn't Obama. All he and his campaign did was keep their mouth shut, and the media went batshit crazy that they couldn't strong-arm an insider to blabble who the veep is.

Anyway, some new polls:

Yeah, it's the media's fault. All Obama and his campaign did was keep their mouth shut.

And @ Hootie, fap away!

It was a pretty good polling day for Obama. Here's another round-up with some analysis.

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/08/todays-polls-822.html

They have Obama's slide reversing the past three days due to state polling.

(The Zogby Interactive can be pretty much ignored.)

+6 in Colorado is huge. Holy shit, he polled +8 in NORTH CAROLINA, and +9 in PA. Imagine if Gore was the VP? He would turn that +25 in Tennessee around in a heartbeat.

US SS going to Biden's home could just be a precautionary measure if they feel like he might have been overexposed by the recent media outing. Doesn't mean he's the pick.

I am starting to think that from here on out the Obama campaign is going to be on their heels making the narrative and being on the offense.

See, this is what I was referring to. By waiting too long before the rally, you leave too many clues. Had he sent the text this morning, he would've still surprised a ton of people and had a full day of Obama/Biden coverage, but now by the time he sends out that text message, it'll be all over the news.

What did he do?

Whoring himself to the public and causing massive blue balls throughout the nation??

He might as well get the SS on him since the media are all up on his ass.
I really hate it when the media acts like the paparazzi.

Wouldn't everybody here have preferred to have heard this from Obama himself rather than from a secret service leak. Wouldn't it have served him better to announce this on his terms, like he wanted to, this morning?

Gore didn't carry his state in his presidential run

Probably. But at least it wasn't a leak from his campaign. Freaking secret service. :lol

I wonder if he'll send the message out early because of this.

Congrats to him. He's not really someone to be unhappy about. he's a good democrat, and will do a great job.
I'm not super-thrilled, but I'm not sad either. He'll be a great attack dog.

Typically, you want to give your VP plenty of exposure before the convention. Now, there's not any time to do so. There simply isn't the same amount of people watching the news/politics stuff on weekends. So it's at least ONE wasted day of exposure (today), and the next time regular folks really dig in will be on Monday, when the convention coverage will move from one also-ran to another, until the VP speaks. Doing it Saturday may work for the super hardcore, but it's really been a wasted opportunity for Obama and I can't wait for his or the campaign's rationale for throwing away a solid week of potential coverage of him with his VP pick.

edit: And also, I know many folks here hate the media, but they are the ones that will provide the exposure for Obama and the VP, so all this "lulz, they fooled teh mediaz" crap really isn't a good thing, especially when they were so eager to provide prime time coverage to Obama's VP, rather than split time between the entire short list, which is COMPLETELY USELESS to Obama. What does he gain from more Hillary VP speculation. Or everyone else that isn't his pick?

Yes. bc announcing a week before the convention worked out so well for Kerry and Gore. In the end this shit doesnt matter, us politicos fap over it, but J6P could care less when the veep is announced.

Perhaps... but whatever.

so most major news outlets have confirmed Kaine is in Denver and has told his staff he isn't it. Bayh has also been told he isn't it, and has told his staff and has had no change in plans. CNN is saying, after reports of not being officially vetted, that Clinton has been told it is not her.

Biden's family is/has been gathering at his house all day/week long, he's kept his mouth shut for the last month, went to georgia on the invitation of the pres of georgia, not at the command of a presidential candidate, the secret service has been dispatched to his house, AND then there's that private jet from chicago to his town that arrived this evening.

this is a real hard one. but the thing is, Obama's plan of secrecy involving this worked, up until like 7pm on a friday night, when the announcement is coming 8 or 9am on a saturday morning. of all the times for something to begin leaking, this was the best time possible in terms of his planned roll-out. the general public is sleeping/out and about, and will wake up tomorrow with a text. the OCD crowd will be seeing the same stuff i just went over, and, well, they'll "know" 8-12 hours before other people. win-win.

I still think the timing was for the best (barring leaks), but yeah I definitely see your point. Getting that text message and feeling like you got the news first... it would really drive home Obama's "this is YOUR campaign" message.

Secret service and jets, huh?

Sounds like everything is happening exactly as Sebelius has planned!

...

Biden ftw. Good guy, should be good.

Let's not forget GAF that Chet Edwards was vetted by the Obama campaign which was reported earlier by CNN.

Of course they don't care when, but Obama's campaign has to care because they have to set the table for next week's convention and they have to push the choice in front of J6P. It's precisely BECAUSE they don't care that Obama's campaign has to get as much exposure so that they reach as much of the masses as possible with the joint ticket with Biden. So the timing doesn't matter with us, since we already have and will continue to saturate ourselves with info on Obama/Biden, but the fact is that there are only 70 some odd days left and every day is valuable and they just wasted a week of valuable Obama/Biden coverage.

What if, just what if this is a way to throw off the scent? That isn't likely but that would be fucking awesome if that was the case.

I'm extremely happy! Biden was actually my original favorite in the Dem primary. So this Obama Bin Biden ticket is my dream ticket.

As for the Secret Service leak most people are either already asleep or turned out to the news at this hour. I think there will still be a lot of people pleasantly suprised when they get their text message in the morning.

After all the SS leak isn't a strong enough confirmation for newspapers to blast Obama Bin Biden confirmation on the headlines just yet. It's just another clue. Albeit a strong one.

Obama's plan was still a success. The SS leak didn't occur until after the evening news run. Which means the far majority of the public will first learn of Obama's pick from Obama's text message (if it comes early enough)

Yeah, turn on the major cable news networks, and who's on?

John King, nothing on MSNBC, and a repeat of the O'Reilly Factor with no O'Reilly.

That's true. I think sometimes we lose perspective, and forget that most people are not F5ing on forums for the latest VP news.
