Yeah, it's the media's fault. All Obama and his campaign did was keep their mouth shut.reilo said:Eh? Who turned it into a circus? It wasn't Obama. All he and his campaign did was keep their mouth shut, and the media went batshit crazy that they couldn't strong-arm an insider to blabble who the veep is.
Anyway, some new polls:
This looks good for Badass Biden! He's a very good pick.Lemonz said:U.S. Secret Service on Way to Biden's House

They have Obama's slide reversing the past three days due to state polling.

Second from bottom.
Congrats to him. He's not really someone to be unhappy about. he's a good democrat, and will do a great job.Lemonz said:U.S. Secret Service on Way to Biden's House

US SS going to Biden's home could just be a precautionary measure if they feel like he might have been overexposed by the recent media outing. Doesn't mean he's the pick.

Probably. But at least it wasn't a leak from his campaign. Freaking secret service. :lolVanMardigan said:Wouldn't everybody here have preferred to have heard this from Obama himself rather than from a secret service leak. Wouldn't it have served him better to announce this on his terms, like he wanted to, this morning?
I'm not super-thrilled, but I'm not sad either. He'll be a great attack dog.TDG said:Congrats to him. He's not really someone to be unhappy about. he's a good democrat, and will do a great job.

VanMardigan said:Typically, you want to give your VP plenty of exposure before the convention. Now, there's not any time to do so. There simply isn't the same amount of people watching the news/politics stuff on weekends. So it's at least ONE wasted day of exposure (today), and the next time regular folks really dig in will be on Monday, when the convention coverage will move from one also-ran to another, until the VP speaks. Doing it Saturday may work for the super hardcore, but it's really been a wasted opportunity for Obama and I can't wait for his or the campaign's rationale for throwing away a solid week of potential coverage of him with his VP pick.
edit: And also, I know many folks here hate the media, but they are the ones that will provide the exposure for Obama and the VP, so all this "lulz, they fooled teh mediaz" crap really isn't a good thing, especially when they were so eager to provide prime time coverage to Obama's VP, rather than split time between the entire short list, which is COMPLETELY USELESS to Obama. What does he gain from more Hillary VP speculation. Or everyone else that isn't his pick?

I still think the timing was for the best (barring leaks), but yeah I definitely see your point. Getting that text message and feeling like you got the news first... it would really drive home Obama's "this is YOUR campaign" message.VanMardigan said:See, this is what I was referring to. By waiting too long before the rally, you leave too many clues. Had he sent the text this morning, he would've still surprised a ton of people and had a full day of Obama/Biden coverage, but now by the time he sends out that text message, it'll be all over the news.

That's true. I think sometimes we lose perspective, and forget that most people are not F5ing on forums for the latest VP news.grandjedi6 said:Obama's plan was still a success. The SS leak didn't occur until after the evening news run. Which means the far majority of the public will first learn of Obama's pick from Obama's text message (if it comes early enough)
