Is McCain's advisor making the media rounds and destroying the opposition/educating the viewers on the issue of economics as Goolsbee has been doing as of late?
Yes he has, he is constantly on Bloomberg, and has been for months. I suggest turning to different channels like CNBC or Bloomberg in times of economic crisis. It's a little different than your typical days of salivating over MSNBC and fuming over Fox, I know.

Supposedly they looked at her early on, then eliminated everyone else and she was the only one left. Supposedly.
I'm having a hard time imagining the sort of elimination process that wouldn't filter her out straight away. Unless McCain just called up every potential VP candidate and she was the only one who responded in the affirmative.

Does this make what he says less stupid?
Well, I can't argue with that!

The vetting process consisted of John McCain saying "Maverick?" on the phone...candidates that said YES were immiediately scratched off the list. I mean what's so "maverick" about someone saying YES right away.

When he called Pailin...

JC: "Maverick?"

SP: "Thanks, but no thanks"

How often is he on CNBC? It would probably be wiser for this advisor to be a little bit more visible, being that McCain's single biggest weakness is the economy. I know they're not about doing the wise thing in the McCain campaign, though. Today certainly proved that.

Oh, man. A comments section. Is there a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than the comments section on a mainstream news site?

Thanks... these are always good for a laugh.

I'm actually looking forward to the delicious bitter tears of some of those extremist posters when Obama is elected.

bloomberg, cnbc, PBS c-span etc are for actual information. Do you really think most people here watch that?

I just saw part 2 of the Palin/Couric interview.... just wow....

When she went on about health-care and cutting taxes I had to rewind the video just to remember what the original question was. Couric's question was basically asking why should taxpayers bailout wall-street with this 700B bill and Palin meandered all over the place for almost minute talking about job creation, tax cuts, spending reduction, trade and healthcare. Then she says the bail-out addresses all these things!

The Gibson interview was what? Two weeks ago? Her interview skills and knowledge of the issues doesn't seem to have improved one iota. What's worse is that Couric didn't ask any "gotcha" questions. Couric just brought up current event issues from this past WEEK. And most of Couric's follow-up questions were asking Palin to be more specific. McCain, Obama, Biden, and 90% of Congress would have breezed through Couric's questions.

After the Couric interview I think any objective observer would say Palin is a fish out of water and no way ready to be VP much less President. It now makes sense why the McCain campaign is so aggressively keeping her isolated from the press. I bet they'll try to pull off another stunt to try to get the VP debate delayed and canceled.

For some reason while driving home from work and thinking about todays events the Image of Rick Moranis in SpaceBalls ordering the ship to stop comes to mind..

Someone should make a gif of that part of the movie and embed McCains face over Rick Moranis. Maybe have Karl Rove as second in command saying "You better Buckle up Sir".

CNBC's money porn.

Anyone wants to sell the idea of Jim Cramer's home network as a sober clearinghouse of well-filtered information, good luck to you.

That's the #1 reason I'm taking Election Week off and upgrading my cable to include Fox News. The reactions on there should be priceless; I'm going to DVR as much of it as I possibly can, and it'll sit on that DVR hard drive for eternity, right next to this past year's BCS Championship game. :D

Then you will be deeply disappointed. It won't be like the grand canyon collapsing just like nobody really fled to Canada in 2004.

Yeah, if Obama happens to win, I am going to be watching Fox News in the hope of seeing Sean Hannity's face the moment the race is called. Maybe I'll tape it and rewatch it like Bart watching Ralph Wiggum's heart break. I will also tune in to his next radio show.

I thought this was funny from CNN

On entering a room filled with several Pakistani officials Wednesday, Palin was immediately greeted by Sherry Rehman, the country's information minister.

"And how does one keep looking that good when one is that busy?" Rehman asked Palin, drawing friendly laughter from the room.

"Oh, thank you," Palin said.

Pakistan's new president, Asif Ali Zardari, entered the room seconds later. Palin rose to shake his hand, saying she was "honored" to meet him.
Don't Miss

Zardari then called her "gorgeous"
and said: "Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you."

"You are so nice," Palin said, smiling. "Thank you."

A handler from Zardari's entourage then told the two politicians to keep shaking hands for the cameras.

"If he's insisting, I might hug," Zardari said. Palin smiled politely in response.

:lol

Joe Scarbs is on full Republican talking point mode today....

Absolutely crazy... they're saying how great McCain is for suspending his campaign...

Mischaracterization. Scarbs thinks it was the right thing to do, but they're certainly not felching him. Mika disagrees completely.

Jesus, I swear some of you wouldn't throw water on Joe Scarborough if his head was on fire.

Fuck me in the ass. Had to come back to post after seeing this.

Scarbs is shilling HARD for McCain and his antics.

Said McCain will out-do Obama in all 3 debates.

Would post a reaction of disbelief gif but I have none over the top enough.

Obama needs to head to Washington, make his rounds over there, but head back to Mississippi. In this way, McCain can't say, "I'm the maverick that's about action, while Barack is about talk." Barack will also show that he can multitask. After the debate, Barack should head right back to Washington.

Our potential VP is sort of a tart...

"Congrats on being the first woman US VP, now get that little ass shaking and gets us some coffee, toots!"

Palin: "Teehee!"

He's going there today. It's ludicrous to say you can't do both, as he's pointed out already. Also, as has been pointed out, the GOP needs McCain's presence a lot more than the Dems need Obama. They're in shambles right now.

Also, the last thing I would have imagined McCain wanted to do was to remind America that he's a working Congressman in the only government institution with lower approval ratings than the President.

Argh she's infecting our politics too! This is one of the reasons why Sarah Brown introduced the PM the other day.

Yes they are. Joe Scarbs and the guest (I forget his name) were saying how patroitic McCain was for doing this. Willie is Scarbs puppet. And Barnacle was fairly wishy washy. Mika was the lone opposition. So my characterization was accurate.

And yes I would throw water on Scarbs if his head with his beady little eyes were on fire. I don't hate Scarbs. I watch the show regularly. However you never know what Joe is going to show up in a given morning. Sometimes he's propping up Obama and bashing McCain. Sometimes he's neutral. Then other times he reverts back to his old Republican shill mode. Half the fun is guessing which Scrabs will show up.

I mentioned it earlier since it was on my local news (I live in MS), but it's good to have a site to go to. Plus I really didn't report it per say...it was more of a rant.
It was definitely a rant
. For lack of a better phrase, It's kind of funny that he is supposedly canceling this debate in order to help solve the economic crisis by basically throwing away $5 1/2 million worth of preparations.

So basically he has his own opinions, untethered by party identification.

Not really, Sarah Brown has a much, much, much higher favourable rating than Gordon.

Btw it's hilarious how even those on Morning Joe weren't defending the Couric/Palin interview. Barnacles flat out said she's in way over her head and Scarbs said she should stick to the Republican press circuit only.

But Barnacle brought up a good though. The Daily Kos and other left-wing bloggers went overboard the first week by giving the McCain campaign excuse to play the "sexist" and "evil liberal media" card. Palin should get absolutely toasted over this Katie Couric interview but there's already a perception that the media is out to get Palin so no matter how moronic she appears.

How can Joe Scarborough let someone so PARTISAN as Peggy Noonan on his show spouting claptrap about how Obama was right?!? He must be seething right down to his GOP Sock Garters!!!

Who are you talking to?

Now Letterman is a meanie.

Joe trying to act like CBS is in on the kick him why he was down by Dave.

Mika tries to squeeze so reality into the conversation about how Letterman's show is separate from CBS News. If you knew he owned his show you could guess as much.

And Joe repeating the same ole same ole saying how he would hide Palin even more. No shit Joe. She is a fuck up as a VP so yes it is the right thing to do if you play bullshit politics. I thought you wanted to be respectable now Joe and leave the GOP hacking to the scores of morons on FOX and talk radio.

Point is valid if it was what actually happened. Almost nobody saw/cared what the peripheral media said. Any of the negative stuff that came from Dems/Media early on was way outweighed by the glowing coverage. And the top dogs like Obama stayed away from putting her down.

The GOP/Right-Wing was ALWAYS going to go back to attacking the media for not attacking the the Dems for attacking Palin or whatever. I could of telegraphed it in my sleep.

Jesus. He's talking about what they should have done if that's what they wanted to do, not what JOE SCARBOROUGH WANTED TO HAPPEN.

Also, Mika was totally wrong on the Letterman thing in terms of process. Joe was 100% right. They taped that show six hours before they aired it. Everyone at CBS knew what was in the segment.

Umm, or maybe he's just a moderate Republican? I've never claimed Scarbs is a right-wing nutjob like Hannity or something. It's just sometimes he waffles back and forth from being an objective commentator and being a conservative commentator. I don't even mind the latter as long as it doesn't appear he's hewing to talking points.
