You know. Rihrih's success as a singles artist makes me wonder if some artists soon won't just do away with the album concept all together. It doesn't really make sense in the digital age. Plus.....forcing your fans (even if only 500k or so would have purchased your album) to buy the single on the radio just like everyone else could TOTALLY game the billboard hot 100 chart in their favor.

That's a good point when you consider how little money is made from singles and albums sales.

If only there was a way to test how an artist who only released singles would fare with touring, the biggest money maker.

Doing an album seems like the most satisfying thing an artist can do though, so I'm not sure how it would work in theory. I know some artists are already satisfied with just small EPs and releases, but eh.. to each's own I guess. I'd get bored quick.
I love the feeling of listening to a new LP and not having heard 90% of it.

Just releasing singles would damage your tours tho unless you already have a hefty discography

but then again albums sometimes don't sell tours

Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't want to see the album concept abandoned anytime soon.

I wouldn't either....still....I would be shocked if no one tried. Would give a lot more flexibility in that if your current material isn't working you can just drop into the studio and record something else (since they weren't forced into the time sink of making an album earlier). No more being stuck with whats on the disc in the short term (yeah EP's....but those generally don't happen till late in the cycle).

I don't think it will ever go that way in the mainstream industry.....just curious whether or not it would work.

One just has to look at how Japan does it. It's common for artists to release elaborate singles collections between official albums. Like Namie Amuro's flawless 60s 70s 80s.

I think Japan has a far superior model.

Not a very long run. 2 months before it passes it imo.

I suspect you are correct that they will almost certainly get on a yearly release schedule.....here's hoping at some point we get actual radio hits to go along with the album sales.....

I also hope they get into the Rihanna schedule. Partially for stan wars so there can be more on the yearly schedule, but mostly because it does seem to help rather than taking two years between albums and then coming back to a flop. (see: Ke$ha, Alicia, Xtuna). Maybe Rih's manager was right to compare her to an iPhone a few months ago. People buy $300 phones with diminishing returns on a yearly basis, so it shouldn't be that hard to convince them to spend 10-15 on a yearly basis for 10-15 new songs.

Rih is such a trailblazer.

Is this the new look for her new era? I like it the Japanese influence makes her look less local

She's wearing a lot of shimmer powder, but other than that Janet looks amazing. Better than most if your faves look NOW, lets not even talk about what they'll look like when they're her age.

Her body is banging.

Outfits are slamming.

Hair is sexy and sophisticated.

Janet makes all if your faves look like wrecks.

I wonder why they couldn't fix her make up so she has a solid pale skin tone like Beyoka.

I suppose if you look at it from the angle of "god (or her plastic surgeon) took a great deal of artistic licence with human anatomy when designing her face".......... then I can suppose I could call her "sexy and sophisticated"........

First and last time I will suggest there is anything sophisticated about her
