Now that sounds like hell.

The Souls games without the fear of death sounds truly pointless. You should be scared when you're about to enter an area for the first time, you should be filled to a sense of wanderlust and terror.

Well said. That is why I like the Souls series so much.

This leak is glorious.

If this project Beast leak is not controlled, I'm pretty sure someone at Sony wishes it was, if only for the hype it has generated up until now. Incredible. And fun :-)

And the recent DemonNite stuff is the icing on a promising cake.

The comment was referring to Game of Show. Just speculating here, but Project Beast is more-or-less penciled in for that (on popularity-GAF) unless TLG were to hit.

If Beast Souls and The Last Guardian are unveiled same day, how long do you guys think GAF will be down?

No way Sony would put TLG in Judge's week. If they are going to re-reveal it, they would never risk blowing it there.

You're right. I just thought it might be the kind of place in which people get a little more loose with gossip. However, I say that knowing very little of the actual process.

I think its a bad decision to give out darks souls on xbox for free right now. People will play it, like it and see that this is exclusive to ps4 and be tempted to buy one.

And again with the "controlled leak" dog shit. Why the fuck would they leak this ten days before the conference? Do any of you have a fucking reason for thinking that way? Or did you hear someone say the phrase earlier on these forums and decided that it sounded cool?

Will Maiden in Black be in it doe?

will not buy if she ain't in it
I must say that I prefer the bonfire setup to the level up lady from DeS and DS2.

I think the only recurring character in all three Souls games was the crestfallen in the hub. :D

Did you play Demon's souls ? Why do you find Dark Souls 2 better ? I havn't played the latter one yet but i'm curious to know.

Level design, gameplay balance, art quality, lore.

Too many Demon's Souls levels are twisting, cramped nightmares or use annoyingly small hallways or platforms. This is mostly gone in DS2 and it is much better for it, because you're not also fighting the camera. The boss arenas are much better designed, they are less pointlessly large and overdetailed like 2-2, 4-3 and 5-2.

Gameplay is much better balanced, more weapon types are viable, and parries and backstabs are much less abusable. Magic is perhaps still overpowered, and a patch to change some things is imminent.

The art quality is much better, where the modelling, texturing and animation are much higher quality and better at realising the concept art. The visuals are a lot more cohesive, there is less frivolous bloom and depth of field and the parts of the world relevant to gameplay like treasures and your bloodstain are better defined.

I find the lore to be more interesting, Boletaria has a lot less history and veers a little closer to generic fantasy.

Of course a lot of this applies to Dark Souls 1 as well but I feel that issue is a lot more debatable.

Nexus design is far superior to Majula from DS2, artistically and mechanically.

I dont have much time to go into detail but Majula's implementation is fairly sloppy in comparison.

Obviously the way they wanted the game to be presented was via low quality images and video. Because a well-constructed trailer wouldn't be as good. Vague posts on /v/, a venue known for its inclusiveness and quality discussion, is much better than a reveal at E3. Who watches that, anyway?

I see this character referenced all the time. What's so great about her?
She leveled you up and spoke fake ye olde English in a vaguely Eastern European accent. (I don't think she's a particularly interesting or charming NPC, the Souls series has had far better ones).

I think there's a subset of the community that has a certain fascination with these types of female characters, I've seen similar "waifu" posts in the DS2 OT about Shanalotte (which I think is just as boring).

Count to ten man. Using the word "fuck" in consecutive sentences while -at least ostensibly - asking questions is not the best way to start a conversation.

And yeah, I did think about it. From a marketing perspective, it makes sense. Two threads in less than a month have generated enormous amounts of hype among the exact demographic these games are made for. That sounds like the kind of result a marketing team would like to see, as would the people that employ them. The question is, did you think about it before you decided to rant? Feel free to stick with your "cool" bandwagon theory if it helps with that temper.

You must talk to her to level up and I think her character, in this particular place, really set the tone for the game - or fit with it really well, rather. It's a great looking character I think, like a mysterious friend or ally and what she says sticks with you during the whole game ("so the world might be mended" etc...) maybe it's from listening to it so many times though

also you don't have to skip her song to levelup as it plays in the background, unlike emerald herald's (bearer of..seek...seek..lest)

Whoever thought giving the level up lady 4 mandatory lines was a good idea needs to be strapped into a chair and be forced to listen to it over and over as punishment. Terrible.

Yes, this was a huge annoyance. Odd they didn't settle on the precedence already set in their earlier game.

I also agree on the other comments. Majula feels like a poor Nexus replacement and moving level - up from the bonfire to the Emerald Herald felt like a step back. It's like they tried to recreate some of the magic of DeS, but in a poorly executed manner.

The problem with the design of Majula is that you HAVE to go back there to level. You have this interconnected world with shortcuts everywhere, but if you want to level up you have to teleport to town like it's Diablo or some shit.

Meanwhile the nexus was an integral part of the game world. You weren't forced to go there, you were going there anyways between levels because of the Archstones.

Sounds like the same thing.

Has anyone here mentioned the possibility of the shotgun being necessary since Boletaria lost its knowledge of the soul arts during the good ending of DeS? It would be great if you had to defeat the hero from the first game, though that would be very similar to the Gwyn situation in DaS.

How about I put in some logic in this five beeps thing? DemonNite completely changed the background score, dialogs and Foley. Which means that he could not use the original beeps from the movie because it would have sounded bad. However, he still needs beeping sound because you know production value... So, I think that number beeps is not a deliberate thing. I think the easter egg is that Kaz is going to be on stage at E3 like another gaffer suggested.

If he walks on stage carrying a Tron disc, Gaf would explode.

Sounds like the same thing.
How many times do you need to legit do something aside from leveling up in Majula after you go to Heide's?

Majula is like having to drive all the way back home to go to the bathroom. The Nexus was like a roadside diner where you can drop by for a few minutes to pee and move on with your trip.

Kaz was the main focus of the clip. Easter eggs are subtle things that are easy to miss or don't seem important in the moment. Plus, I don't think Kaz on stage would be that huge of a deal in itself.

So the best way to generate that hype is to 'leak' terrible quality footage less than 10 days before you're actually going to officially announce it? You really don't think these same people hyped right now wouldn't also be hyped if it was announced without any knowledge at E3? It's still going to be a big announcement and nice to get confirmation, but if none of this had leaked it would have been a huge moment for a lot of people here. Now that we know it's coming the impact of the official announcement will be dampened. Why the fuck would Sony/From intentionally want that? That's nonsensical; dumb.

Here's what EmCeeGramr's said about some of this earlier in this thread:
LIST OF TOTES CONTROLLED LEAKS (which all coincidentally happened in the first half of 2014 only after a big leak):

-A person randomly leaks two years of Microsoft lineup and hardware info, including confidential details from third party publishers who would be angry if they knew it was deliberate, some of it turning out somewhat incorrect in the end but clearly things that a MS employee would know about or have seen, including things embarrassing or possibly damaging for the company like proving Phil Spencer lying about Black Tusk's new IP or a possible price dropped XBO model without a disk drive. A day later an outlet reports that Microsoft is seriously angry and will press charges if they find the leaker.

-Rough looking unfinished screens of Assassins' Creed 2K14 are leaked, as well as details about AC: Less Money Edition. Ubisoft officially announces it like a day later as a "welp no option now."

-Compressed screencaps of some kind of video stream showing Project Beast, and then later clips from that video are produced, 2 weeks before it would have been revealed as a big surprise at E3. Sony people are bummed.

-The trailer for COD2K14 leaks because Destructoid gets it a few hours early or something and then they post it.

-Everything about Battlefield 2K14 leaks because Battlelog is easy to mine and EA has to officially announce it along with a "first reveal at E3!" tease. Then a rough internal video of an alpha including untextured guns and project codenames is leaked and Visceral people are bummed.

All of these are controlled leaks because of reasons. I've probably even missed some.
So yeah, while they could have articulated it better, I agree with NoMoreTrolls. This whole obsession with claiming everything is a 'controlled leak' is stupid and is getting bloody annoying.

I see this character referenced all the time. What's so great about her?
She is gentle beyond her responsibilities and experiences. She is a character who's description here could not endear her the way experiencing the game can. Her reputation as necessary is well earned
Edit:
^that too

What was the last E3 Kaz was on stage and what games were announced during that?

I don't think this game will be at the show, the best we can hope for is a trailer at the Sony press conference.

You're right, typing obscenities is a clear indication that I'm drastically, physically upset, not that I pressed four to seven keys to insert words into a sentence to convey my sentiment towards the controlled leak "movement." So you think that getting the attention of ten thousand hardcore gamers with shit tier quality gifs for an unannounced game is some sort of marketing coup in advance of an event that's watched by hundreds of thousands of hardcore gamers? I can't say I follow that logic one bit. So far it seems to be the "cool" thing to claim a leak is controlled, as damn near every leak the last few months has had a multitude of posters making that mostly baseless assertion.
