PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Besides Skype (and something called Go!Messenger, which appearently allows video calls), there's nothing new in 3.90.

And sadly, no text messaging in Skype :(

Yeah that's the problem. When I go to register the device, the PSP is in USB mode and the PS3 is in the remote play register menu. But when I try to register it, it doesn't detect the PSP

I had the same problem. You might have a corrupted key. Run Chilly Willy's KeyCleaner and hopefully that will solve your problem.

I'm currently using 3.80 M33-5 and I don't have any problem whatsover with the CSOs that I play (no sound skip or stuff like that). I also play some homebrew stuff and it runs like butter.

But like people are saying here, 3.90 seems really fast so I'll wait a bit. Not too much though because I had a lot of work to do to get here because my last FW was 3.51 :lol

Oh dear, I haven't updated in so long. With all the DS games lately I haven't picked up my PSP much at all actually...

What's the advantage of having 1.5 over 3.71 M33-4? Sorry, I am new to the homebrew scene.

Some devs haven't updated their homebrew to work on the 3.XX kernal yet, whereas other homebrew hasn't been updated since their 1.5 versions back in the day. If you have a Fat PSP you can have the 1.5 Add-On that can run all the 1.5 versions of homebrew programs, but personally I am not using it that much as most of the devs have updated because of the Slim PSP having no 1.5 support (at the moment, Time Machine will change all that).

Edit: Seems that Skype won't be ported to work on PSP Fats, Mathieulh said in the Time Machine thread. This is disappointing, but I guess it opens the doors for more competing homebrew projects aimed at Fat users.

3.90 M33 is up. Does anyone know if this will let me run Skype on a Japanese PSP Slim?

Looked into this, you need to install 3.90 M33, boot into recovery (Hold R whilst booting the PSP), go to configuration, fake region, and enable it to America. I think this will work.

Hmm. Auto-updater doesn't work for me this time - it asks if I want to download 390.pbp, prompts for the network connection, and then turns itself off. Ho hum.

Apparently the servers are being overloaded at the moment, so I'd give it a few days anyway - there are bound to be bugs, right? (Like 3.80 M33).

I'm sure you can still do the update the old fashioned way. Or at least help it out a bit by downloading the 3.90 official updater from playstation.com...

Sure, but then I'd have to go downstairs and get my USB cable. I thought 3.80M33 was supposed to usher in a new age of not-having-to-get-off-my-ass?

I had no problems upgrading to 3.90 m33, I turned on my wifi switch on my slim when it asked for an internet connection took about 3 minutes to download the 390.pbp and it updated fine.

Are there any 3.xx kernel compatible apps out there that rip UMDs straight to the memory stick? I own a Mac and as such it's difficult to do that to my computer. I really just want this so I can improve load times with God of War and Crisis Core in the upcoming months. Don't know if it's okay to be asking about it but I have never pirated PSP software and I don't ever plan to, I just want to make the most out of what I've got.

VSH menu -> UMD drive.
USB Access and drag ISO to desktop.
That SHOULD be platform agnostic.

Think it's 1.50 only, unfortunately. Come on, Time Machine!

If you've got a mac you need a copy of PrometusPro and Dax Dumper. Looks like you'll have to either rip your UMDs on a Windows machine, or acquire a phat...

I'm not sure it why it isn't a "readable volume" on macs. I wonder if D_A could write a driver for that....

I do have a copy of PrometeusPro actually, but dax dumper won't work on my psp slim ;_;

I vaguely recall reading about some homebrew apps that allow you to rip via a network. I've never used them, but try Googling them up and see if they'll work for you?

PSP Filer, no computer needed, just rips straight to MS.

Are you having any problems/issues (slowdown and sound glitches/skipping) with the loaders now that you're using 3.90?

I have some quick, noob questions I hope you guys would be kind enough to answer. :D

1. I just ripped SFA3 Max and FFT ISO files from my UMD drive onto my PC. Is there any advantages (other than size) or disadvantages of compressing them to CSO files? What's the best format? Will I lose my save files if I convert to CSO?

2. I currently have 3.71 M33-4 on my Slim. Is the 333 MHz mode the default speed? If not, how can I make my PSP run at that speed?

Thanks in advance!

1. I have noticed that some games load slower if compressed. If you have the space just leave them as iso. Save files will be fine either way.

2. Press select and it will bring the VSH up. For "CPU Clock Game" make it 333/166. If that doesn't show up turn off the psp. Then hold r-trigger down and start it up. That will boot it into recovery mode. In the CPU Speed menu change it to 333 there.

Loaders? When playing games from UMD or MC I have 0 issues. I haven't tried playing any of my PSX games yet though.

Are the supposed problems in 3.80 M33 fixed in 3.90 M33? I downgraded to 3.71 M33 last night because playing Dragon Quest VII caused my Slim to hang.

I compress my ISO files into CSO format, but with minimal compression. Loading speed seems to be fine, for example in Disgaea it was almost none-existent. I think the size saving is pretty substantial, allowing me to use the extra space for an additional game or two plus other crap like films and animes.

Did D_A ever fix the POPStation thing either? That was among the main reasons I didn't upgrade.

What POPStation thing? I'm having no problems with POPS, and I'm on 3.90M33 using the 3.80M33 POPSLoader Version 2 with a full set of prx's.
