The amount of battery you save from ripping your games to stick (and therefore not using the UMD drive) is enormous compares to forcing 333mhz.

UMD Drive @ 222mhz = about 5-7 hours on Stamina Pack

Memstick @ 333 mhz = 12-15 hours on Stamina Pack

I've heard about this Stamina Pack, it's roughly £15 ($30ish) on a site I've found in the UK, is it worth it? Based on your findings there it looks like it, but what type of MS files were you using, CSOs or ISOs? CSOs take up a bit more power due to the compression.

I use CSOs only. I'd definitely get a Stamina.

UMD @ 222mhz = 3-5 hours on stock battery

Memstick @ 333mhz = 6-8 hours on stock battery

Damn just looked again and it's out of stock, and all the ones up on eBay are fakes, this is not good. Does anyone have any ideas where I can find it in the UK? I've checked all the normal game suppliers and it seems they stopped selling them a long while ago.

Is that stats for Slim or Fat?

I tried this out and its fairly cool. The format option for fake MS works a treat. I have a fake 1GB eBay card that wouldn't work before and now works fine.

I'll update the UPMS tutorial during the week.

Fat. I don't have a Slim (yet... I need another one for ad-hoc Monster Hunter).

Hmmm. I wonder if this would work for the OFFICIAL SONY MEMCARD I got for über cheap. It's a 256MB M2 Micro thingie. It will run a CSO, but wouldn't work for Pandora...

Finally getting 3.80 M33 on my slim this afternoon, god I'm so excited after reading through threads like this. The process seemed too complicated to me but I found someone that is going to do it for me.

One thing, he said that after he puts 3.80 M33 on it, that I could downgrade to 3.71 which he said was more stable... what was the problem, and should I do that?

It's entirely up to you and what kind of performance you have with your games. Most complaints are about stuff being slower (due to the MemoryStick access) resulting in sound skipping in some game and other stuff.

Personnally, I have 3.80 M33-5. I play my PSP games on my 4Gb Sony MS coupled with some homebrew and experience zero problems.

So I just got it hacked, I have 3.80 M33. I found some emulators but wasn't sure which folder to copy them to... I presume PSP/GAME? And which file(s) do I copy, just simply the EBOOT.PBP?

Depends on the compatibility of the emulator, if it's for 3.xx firmware, then the PSP/GAME folder is fine. Copy the entire folder that has the EBOOT.PBP to PSP/GAME for each emulator as it's all important, not just the little old eboot. Now, if you have a phat PSP I recommend installing the 1.50 add-on and using the GAME150 folder for emulators that need 1.50 firmware. Normally, emulators and homebrew will come with readme's if you come into any trouble.

you just need the popsloader that comes with the firmwire (copy the plugin folder onto psp's root directory) and maybe the older firmwire versions in case a particular game doesn't work.

Functionality is built into the firmware. As Twilight Princess said, it doesn't hurt to have popsloader just in case a game doesn't work on the 3.80 firmware so you can try it on others.

Ok so I'm downloading Chrono Trigger (are we even allowed to talk about this? :lol but I own the game, so... anyway) as an EBOOT file, so when it finishes do I just put it in the PSP/GAME folder? I'm really lost, I know this is simple I just don't want to screw anything up.

How can you be lost? Everything you need to know has been covered around the last few pages of the thread, it doesn't take much effort to just have a little browse around squire, it's all right in front of you. You should've ripped your own game too, which again was covered on the last page. All those needing POPSLoader knowledge just go to the last page, I wrote a quick guide with links and everything. Also, if anyone else has any questions, please look around the thread before you ask, everything has been pretty much covered already.

Thing is, I didn't realize this was a tutorial thread. I thought it was simply discussing the new cfw and therefore didn't think I'd find much information concerning emulation and whatnot. But you're right, I should've looked around more regardless. Thanks for pointing it out.

Having to manually put 390.pbp on the MS totally defeats the purpose to the network update IMO.

You don't have to manually put 390 on it, it will ask if you want to download 390.pbp via the Network Update, to which you can agree to, then watch as it magically arrives via wi-fi and then you can launch the installer all from the PSP itself.

Or you can agree to it, then watch as it crashes and reboots your PSP. That works as well. :(

You're right, although I always get an error upon doing so. I just gave up.

My apologies, just my experience with it was fine, it downloaded it all good and worked straight away. I guess the servers must be bashed a bit by the prolonged influx of downloaders.

Question:
I just bought the Asian version of Salamander collection(19.90 off Play-Asia..woot).

Now the description says no region protection but will I still need to do something with my US slim in order to play it?

I'm completely green to this stuff so go easy on me...

B.K. said:
No, there's nothing you need to do for PSP games. You just put them in and play.

Sweet! Thanks.

Here's a noobish question... can you use CWCheat for PS1 games or is there an easier/alternative solution?
I was under the impression that CWCheat was made for PS1 games? That's what I used it for.

Yea it does, uses Codebreaker codes for PS1 according to its wiki entry.

That happened to me too :( x2. And I thought the servers would be better behaved today. That said, I just went back to the 'old' method and updated manually. Now to find a headset/camera for Skype/GoMessenger!

network update worked fine for me and i installed shortly after release... maybe it's your wifi connection?

I just tried it again and I'm now reminded of exactly what happened the times where I didn't get an error.

It asks me (again) to connect to my network. I'd select 'X' (enter) but none of the buttons respond.

IMG_0530.jpg

Actually, 'O' does work, which takes you out of the M33 updater. It then gives me a 'uFetch Error: blahblah

It also let's me re-scan, forcing me to re-input my WEP key which is annoying... Let me try that.

Works. Had to create a new wireless profile. Now I have two...with the exact same settings.

Strange.

Manually add it. Maybe some file didnt copy correctly and updates to 3.90 will fix it?...

I made a few edits. I'm on 3.90 now...and I'm hating it! SegaCD games take forever to load now. Haven't tried any .cso files yet...(Sony 4GB).

Damn.

From the website and the cheat.db file, I just assumed it was for PSP games only.

CWCheat comes with two plugins: one for PSP games, one for PS1 games. You can enable them individually, and each has its own separate cheat database file too.

Can you enable both at the same time?

Here's another noob question. For some reason, Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow won't work on my PSP. It just hangs when I try to start a new campaign on both the UMD and my ISO and then shuts off. Although, weirdly, the tutorials work fine.
Is this something specific to my PSP, like I did something wrong, or is this a known issue?

OK, I stopped reading this thread when I found out about the loading bugs, hoping to come back when an update is available. Have these been fixed yet?

I had loading slowdowns, but then I changed to 333Mhz and they disappeared...

The issues with MS ISO loading/stuttering are still present in 3.90 M33. The fatsmod file is the same as Sony 3.80 / 3.80 M33-5.
The severity of this issue depends on your brand, size of MS and which NO UMD LOADER you are using. With Sony NP9660 it seems to be worse so I recommend using M33 driver instead.

I doubt it's the servers. More likely to be certain subsets of network configuration that it doesn't work for.

FUCK, I'm trying to update to 3.90 from 3.52 M33-4, and when I ran the update it started automatically, got through the unpacking part and then froze at "please wait". Then I read on a forum that you need to be on 3.71 or higher to update even though the readme says you can update from 3.52 M33-3? I'm going to be really fucking pissed if this ends up bricking my PSP.
