PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Whooo, went from 3.9 M33 to 5.50 GEN D3.

That said. I can not, for the life of me, enable plugins. I made a folder in the root called seplugins. I made a file called vsh.txt, put it in /seplugins. I put the correct line of code in said file, which points to the correct .prx file in the stick directory. However, whenever I load up recovery console, go to plugins and look for the plugin to enable/disable it... it's empty. What am I missing?

I tried making all the other text files for the plugins (game.txt etc) and leaving them blank, but no dice. The code I used is:

ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx

Are file extensions visible by default? If you don't, then you're probably naming the file as vsh.txt.txt

Stupid question but do you have a game.txt in /seplugins?

Wasn't the version.txt trick beaten by Sony a while back? Mejlan said something to that degree yesterday I believe.

No. As it + 620.prx is letting my PSN copy of Peace Walker run just damn fine. AKA: Mejlan is half-wrong. It's circumvented by itself, but it isn't beaten. Using it with the .prx makes new games work as if the version.txt was spoofing the firmware by itself.

i have problems with Peace Walker on D3, can I go back to D2?

I had problems too, it freezes when you enter at the mission menu. I used a fix for it, http://ifile.it/icv1sza , there are 2 homebrew apps you use, one when you want to play Peace Walker, and the other when you want to play any other game. you just launch that app, then the app loads a meesage, you go back to the menu and load the game. Same for the other.

lol so today I decided to update back to OFW and I can't do it!!! My PSP won't let me. I downloaded the official update 6.20 and it says "Game cannot be started". I have the update placed in the correct folder and everything.

Then I try the Network Update and it says "Networks are down for maintenance, etc".

:lol :lol :lol Good ol' Custom Firmware. It won't allow you to get rid of it!

I think there's an option to unlock the lock in the Recovery menu at bootup. You can definitely go back if you really want to. DA implemented it back in the day so no one would upgrade by accident.

Man I looked through everything in the recovery menu. I changed that "M33 Network update" option too, nothing was working. My MGS Peace Walker is coming in the mail on friday, hopefully I can just update through UMD just fine.

OK, I downloaded PSNLover, and I can access PSN. I DLed a demo of LBP PSP, but when I try to run it, it says error 80010087. Can anyone help? I'm on Gen-D2.

*sigh* Does anyone try running 620.prx before asking about anything they downloaded off PSN not working/running?

Sorry to bump my old post, but any takers? It was at the end of a page.
You could also try finding out if there is a downgrade option for the firmware you are currently running (but I doubt that). If you upgraded to higher than 5.XX firmware pretty sure your only option is a pandora battery. There's the chickhen exploit if you haven't.

You could make a pandora battery yourself and then change your battery back afterwards. I believe you'd need to have a hacked PSP to do this though, but I can't remember exactly it's been awhile since I looked it up.

Also, even though you said you don't want to buy one, Pandora batteries are like $6-$10 @ deal extreme. Just get a pre-paid credit card and use that to buy one if you can't or don't want to use your credit card.

Ahhh, that sucks ass. I haven't switched mine back to OFW yet, hit me back with an update on how it goes.

Read this page and last page. It's pretty simple to make newer games run on CFW. You have to edit the version.txt in the flash (safe and easy) and then download the 6.20prx (google it).

I could not seem to find the answer to this when searching (I just noticed there's no search within a thread anymore) and I've been out of the custom firmware game for a very long time but I was hoping to get this question answered before I try:

A coworker gave me a Silver PSP to try and unbrick (he said his son dropped it or something in the middle of an official Sony upgrade and the battery popped out). I have no idea if it's even possible for this particular PSP. I've put custom firware on PSPs using the Pandora battery but never tried unbricking any PSP, much less a newer Silver one like this. He doesn't even care if I just put the regular Sony firware on it if I am able to unbrick it.

Thanks for any help anyone can give, sorry if this is in the wrong thread but it seemed like the right place.

I have a PSP-1000 with Software version 3.40 that I want to install CFW on.

I have absolutely no idea where to start, can anyone point me to the correct place to start from?

EDIT-Nevermind, I'm now on 5.00 M33-6, it seems. Going to try and figure out the latest.

Hi guys, is there any way to play Invizimals on CFW yet? 'Cos I see that the new 450 camera needs firmware 6.00+ to work, so was wondering if there were any work-arounds. Thanks.

Does anyone have any good instructions on how to use Prometheus? I'm trying to patch Hexzy Force so I can play it, but all instructions I've found so far are horrible.

Edit: I finally managed to get the Eboot from the ISO decrpyted, but now, WQSG UMD is stuck in read mode, so I can't put the decrypted Eboot and the Prometheus files in the ISO. Anyone know how to fix that?

So what's your take on this, guys? I'm thinking of updating if it means no more hassle every time I want to play a new game.
That's what i was wondering as well. Is it based on Gen-D3? It's their own thing? Will it make all our old save games "corrupt"? I wish we had more info.

Edit: for those not aware, this is a new custom firmware by whoever made Prometheus, which makes all 6.20 games work (supposedly by having Prometheus in the firmware), so you don't have to manually patch 6.20 games.

I bit the bullet and installed it. It works. The only game I have open that I could try was Hexzy Force. I installed 5.50 Prometheus and the game runs fine now without having to be converted. Prometheus is the simplest firmware to install. It literally takes just five seconds. It takes longer to get past the PSP splash screen than to install the firmware.

Looks like it was already mentioned in this thread, but for the new page.
I'm not sure if I'm reading this correctly (and I've not yet been brave enough to try it), but it seems like the Chinese coder who developed the Prometheus module patches for 6.20 games has released an install-able update/mod to Gen CFW that basically builds the Prometheus module directly into the CFW.

If I'm understanding this correctly, it basically updates Gen CFW's to decrypt games on-the-fly to include the new breed of 6.20 games, effectively eliminating the need to manually patch your games.

He seems to have released two flavors of the CFW mod, one for 5.03 Gen-C users (later 2000 and 3000 owners that can't flash a full CFW), and a 5.50 Gen-D3 version.

I'm sure I'll be trying this later tonight/this week. New 360 Slim arrived, so I'm futzing around with that first.

The blurb I cut/pasted re: V2 suggests using Savegame Deemer on your saves before trying to load them up the updated CFW.

PS - This issue isn't new or exclusive. It's been known to happen when updating to newer M33 CFWs in the past as well. Admittedly, it does seem a more pronounced issue when on Gen CFW. Might just be me, though.

Savegame Deemer has been around for years, for just this purpose, I believe.
The only save of mine that I know of that corrupted was FFT, but since I was so early in the game, I just restarted. I could very well have other corrupted saved for older games I just don't play anymore.

I've been going through the games I still have on my memory card. I thought they were all corrupt, but so far, I've only found Disgaea and Tales of the World corrupt. I really want to save those two saves. I've got over 100 on each game. I don't want to lose those files.

You SHOULD have back ups of your saves, such as on your PC?
I do that before every CFW update, or any time I beat the game.

I just installed the Prometheus v2 patch for CFW 5.50 Gen-D3.
It's a very fast patch, just like those minor incremental M33-X or Gen-X updates.
Not a full CFW flash.

System settings now reports me as running 5.50 Prometheus.
I'll be testing Prince of Persia, Hexyz Force, Peace Walker, and the new Harvest Moon shortly.

I should have, but I didn't. What I really should have done was used a different memory card to upgrade with. I can't figure out this Savegame-Deemer thing. I think I just lost about 200 hours of gameplay. :/

Never used Savegame Deemer, but that bit I copy/pasted seemed to indicate that it should be used on saves stored on the PC? Have you tried doing that?

Copied over my non-patched versions of Peace Walker, Prince of Persia, Hexyz Force, Disgaea Infinite, and Harvest Moon. They all load on the new Prometheus CFW without a hitch. In the case of Hexyz Force and Prince of Persia, my existing saves even loaded without issue.

Edit - Friend just asked me to test the Peace Walker UMD.
Game loaded just fine from the disc. I'm impressed.

I found some other instructions to save corrupt saves. I'll try it tomorrow. My head is killing me right now.

Place the fix folder in PSP/GAME
Make sure you back up all your current save data before you run this just in case.
Then run it like an app after a second or two it will say "Done!"
Try your game out! Can't say this is 100% though but it worked for my Final Fantasy I save.

Is there a good web browser that you can run on the psp hacked? Been looking into getting one but my hands on time with the browser left me wondering if its even that capable of displaying websites right.

Wow, awesome! Will definitely install this patch then. It will be nice to be able to play MGS without having to use that MGS fix/never app every time.

If I already started MGS5 on official 6.20 firmware, should my savegame work if I switch to 5.50 prometheus?

Probably. I've seen issues arise from people playing on older firmwares and then trying to transition to a newer one, not the other way round.

That said, it goes to show how this whole savegame encryption nonsense is a mess.
