PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Did you do something in Flash0? Try switching off some XMB plugins, if that doesn't work then try to reset default settings. If even that doesn't work just re-install firmware through the recovery menu.

Nope it just started doing it one day, I didn't mess with any settings. How do I reset to default settings? Also I've tried various methods I've found through the 'Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP' but it just boots back up and freezes at the SCE logo.

To answer both of your questions, yes. M33-Prometheus is just fine. I've been using it since that last post and have not had any issues yet. As far as Ghost of Sparta goes I know it works with Prometheus so you shouldn't have any issues with playing it. And you don't need a Tool Battery to go back to OFW. Just download the update and go. I wouldn't at this time suggest it because no game I know of is dependent on it at this time.
So this means that m33-v6 lets you play Ghost of Sparta right? I just got my copy today from Amazon, but I'm running 5.50gen-v3 and the game won't play, just like the demo didn't.

Anyone have a link to the installers and tutorials I would need to convert back?

If you're already running GEN-3, there's no reason to revert to M33-6 and install Prometheus there; you can just update to 5.50 Prometheus-2 which is essentially GEN-3 with the Prometheus decryption built in. The only reason to revert to M33 is if you want some of the pieces of functionality that didn't make the jump to the GEN firmwares; otherwise just upgrading to Prometheus-2 is going to be easier.

So, does this mean POPS will FINALLY be updated so I can play FF8 PSN and other PSX PSN games on my PSP without having to fumble through POPSloader to get them past freezing points?

no idea, i don't follow the scene that close.

Perhaps you could help me out.
I have a psp running 3.40 oe-a
All of my psp games are useless I can only play very early umds.
I am unable to play anything past 2007.

I am trying to upgrade to xgen 550 gen ds final to play the most current games.
I put all of the correct files in the correct places. My PSP blacks out then turns off instead of going to the flash rom page.

Can you inform me on what I can do to get my firmware up to speed.

If I cannot easily get my psp to play new titles then how do I just go back to official firmware?

A million thanks my friends!

Update from OE to 5.02-M33 then update to 5.50-GEN.

When I Update to 5.02-M33 my PSP blacks out than gives me the (80020148) game can not be started error message.
It gives me this exact message when I try to play games as well.
I used to buy a lot of PSP games. I'd like to get my time in on this system before the PSP2arrives.

I bought God of War: Ghost of Sparta and of course it didn't work on Gen 3 (asked for a firmware update). Upon reading this thread, I installed Prometheus-3 (v2) but it still asks for a firmware update when starting the game. What do I have to do to get this game running from the UMD?

I installed the Prometheus-v2, but there's a few things you still need to do from the VSH menu in the XMB. By the way Charles, thanks. Ghost of Sparta works fine now.

Hit select, change the UMD ISO MODE to Sony NP9660. If you want, change the clock CPU XMB to 333/166 and the clock CPU GAME to 333/166.

No dice. Still asks for a firmware update upon starting.

Yeah. I ripped the UMD with Isotool onto my mem stick but I'd like to play GoS off of the UMD.

Not really a concern for me since the only reason I installed CFW was so I would never have to use my UMDs.

So, I used to have a psp1000.. CFW'd it, bought a pandora battery etc.
I eventually sold it.. It was kinda beat up and I wasn't really into it.

When MGS:pW came out, i bought the big boss pack.
I love this psp. It's damn sexy, has a better screen/etc. But I really want CFW! I want to be able to install my games..
I still have the pandora battery, and am thinking about buying another 1000.. but I don't really want to go back to that ugly fat piece of crap.. and don't really want 2 psps.

Any ideas ?
The 3001 big boss psp has the newest psp firmware on it..
(i was gonna hold out with 6.21 or whatever came with it, but I really needed to play PSP2.. :D )

Oddly, despite having custom firmware, I've never ripped one of my UMD's. Does it make much of a difference in loading times? I don't really notice the UMD access noise as I typically play with headphones on but I'd guess there'd be a small boost to battery life as well. I guess the other bonus is that I don't have to carry around the UMD's (presumably?) - which would probably be a good thing since I've actually wrecked a couple of them now.

I'm currently playing Chains of Olympus off UMD and will be picking up Ghost of Sparta shortly. Sounds like I'll need to rip that to UMD just to get it working through CF - what programs are recommended for dumping my UMDs and do I just drop the files into the ISO folder?

I'm still at M33 v6 I think, though it sounds pretty easy to get Prometheus working with that.

There's a new PRX plugin (Gemini, currently at v1.3) which claims to increase battery life by auto-disabling hardware components not currently in use (and re-enabling them as needed). I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but it sounds promising.

There is Prometheus-3 already?

Just updated to Prometheus-2 last week :p

Are you putting the update and 150.pbp (1.50 firmware) and 502.pbp (5.02 firmware) updates in the /update folder? You may need to put them in /game or /game150 if it doesn't work under /update

They should run fine. I never had an issue updating my firmware or getting the firmware updating programs to run. :/

Mejilan may know the issue. *shrug* But that's the general update path for a PSP so old.

I wonder what the memory usage is like. I had a number of crashes with RemoteJoyLite 19 that resolved when I upgraded to RemoteJoylite 20, whose main advantage was slightly lowering memory use. So I don't think I'm going to push it by trying any other plugins unless they're super duper tiny ;)

good good... I was hoping there was a thread with this type of information in it. I have a feeling I'll be getting a PSP soon and will be needing custom firmware for it. Should I be aware of anything when out looking for one? I saw a site that listed the models/version of firmware that were able to be modded and those that weren't - but as I haven't been in the PSP scene at all, anything I should be weary/aware of?

I'm still using my close to launch PSP1000 and kind of want to upgrade it a little via some modding. I'm not sure if all of this is possible, which is why I'm asking, but am I able to:
- Replace the D-Pad with a better one (or with a PSP 2/3000)
- Put a better screen in it

On to separate things that are less drastic, what is the best memory solution for me now? How large can I get, 4gb doesn't cut it at all anymore. Finally, what is the best battery replacement I can get, I'm still using the original battery and I'm pretty sure I can get a longer lasting one can't I?
Any help or info would be appreciated.

8 gigs on custom, 16 on OFW. (GEN may have gotten around this issue as it's a later firmware update for the memorystick) or you can go ghetto and get SD cards and run them through a memory-stick looking converter for more.

I think it might be time for me to get a new PSP. I bricked mine when upgrading from M33 to GEN D. Finally got it unbricked and it hasn't worked right since.

Currently using 5.50 Prometheus 2. And when I launch things, sometimes they won't launch at all. When using gpsp it will go to the white Sony screen and just hang sometimes and the memory card won't be accessed. Other times it will start up normally.

Sometimes when just turning the system on, it'll show only the background and no XMB elements will show at all. If I keep restarting it, eventually the XMB will show up.

Does anyone know if this is fixable?

Get a Photofast and two 16GB microSDHC cards and you'll have a 32GB card.

I don't know. Ran the installer and it crashed at around 97%. Couldn't access the recovery menu and PSP wouldn't start at all. It's a Star Wars model 2000. Finally had it unbricked with a Pandora battery.

I've tried reinstalling everything from the ground up but it hasn't fixed the freezing problems I'm having now. It also happens with ttylsnes.

Your memory card has some unreadable areas, hence the freezing and the botched install.

Replace it, or put it through Scandisk to mark the areas off. Its usually an indicator that the card is dying.

Hey guys!
I'm still trucking away with the 5.00 m33 cfw. Should I upgrade to this Prometheus? Will it mess up all my emulators? Is there any support for this out dated cfw at all?

I wouldn't bother upgrading unless you absolutely needed to to play something. It shouldn't mess with your ability to use homebrew though.

No, as that won't mark off the bad sectors. You need to scandisk it or use some other program that will scan each sector and mark the bad ones inaccessible.

Any recent game is going to require Prometheus, yeah.

Going from M33 to Prometheus will result in the loss of the one or two M33-unique features (I don't remember what they actually are, I went right to Prometheus when I got my PSP) but your homebrew should otherwise be unaffected.

I've been able to play most games so far. Just wasnt sure if I needed to go up in the future.
How hard is it? My pandora battery died, so I hope I dont need one =\

I completed the scandisk and no bad sectors were found. Are there any other suggestions for what might be causing my issues? I find it odd that things work sometimes and not other times.

Right, so, I installed Prometheus-2 so I could actually play Ys: Oath in Felghana. This worked fine, but now all of my saves from GEN-D2 fail to load. This seems to be a pretty common occurrence from what I've been reading - the saves themselves aren't corrupt, but the new CFW isn't reading them correctly. The guides to fix them involve FreeCheat, which doesn't seem to work on Prometheus.

Is there any way to downgrade back to Gen-D2 so I can play my old game saves (mostly just Ys Seven) but still keep a way to upgrade back to Prome-2 so I can play the 6.20 games?

I remember asking a while back, but I've had extreme difficulty trying to get RemoteJoyLite to work on my computer ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 64bit. I've heard there's something I have to install to make it work, but I'm not sure what it is, or where to find it.

Can anyone help?

Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider is the program you need.

The process is a bit complicated, but the gist is that you need to fake-sign the Remote Joy Lite driver to get it to work. I don't remember more details.

You can also just go into Test Mode and disable enforcement.

Go to the Start menu and type cmd, then right click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator. (If you have UAC on, click Yes)
In the command window, type the following, pressing Enter after typing each line. Also note the spaces!

bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON

Now reboot to enable Test Mode, and enjoy MotioninJoy.

I've recently been playing my psp more than usual on the bus/subway. The thing is that people don't seem to appreciate the loudness of the disc drive at 6am so I've been thinking about putting homebrew on the machine, pretty much just for installs. Sadly, I'm a gigantic idiot when it comes to this stuff. Is there a considered best source on the topic, or something akin to the wiki for homwbrew on wii? I have a daxter psp with the current firmware. Is it even possible to do at this point?

Wow, I can't believe I either forgot about or didn't hear about the photofast. That's what I get for not putting my PSP to much use for quite some time.

I've got a psp1000; I think I'm going to replace the screen since I see a few dead pixels and I have to replace that little strip that has the volume/home/start, etc buttons since my volume doesn't work (I have to use the button remap) and the home button seems to activate randomly.

Since I'm opening the whole thing up, I'm thinking about swapping the whole casing to white but I'm concerned about the housing not fitting all too properly since I'm ordering from dealexteme.

Dunno what I messed up but wifi stopped working, says 'connection error, signal might be too weak' right next to the router, both in main menu and games. WLAN power save is turned off, PSP is a 2000 one, CFW is 5.50 D3 with Prometheus v2. Haven't used it in a while but the settings were still there, it recognizes my router and I still use same WPA-PSK and pass.

Does it ring any bells?

Well i have a PSP 2000, with firmware 3.95 that i have only really being using a video player (also have GOW on it). Now my question is, what is the preferred method for hacking my PSP.

Should i get a Pandora battery and install a custom firmware? Should i upgrade to 5.5 and use that tiff exploit?

What do you guys recommend i do? Is there a recommended guide that i should follow?

Thanks for your help.
