Quantum Break PC performance thread

Hopefully Remedy is preparing some patches which will fix this shit. Not sure what NV's drivers have to do with this.

Well, considering it's not just quantum break I would say that there's not much Remedy can do to close the DX12 performance gap on team green's lineup.

My thoughts are that Nvidia are waiting the storm out in order to force people to shell out for pascal. If indeed that is so, as it was with the Kepler > Maxwell transition, I will probably not buy an Nvidia card again after my 980ti needs upgrading.

When has this been a thing before?

I run multi-mon, and so yeah I'll probably stick to 362 for the time being.

Game is honestly performing like it has a memory leak. Wish MSI afterburner was working so I could confirm, but I do have 8GBs ram so =\?

Anyone else experiencing these types of gameplay halting issues that I mentioned?

8GB aren't enough anymore for some recent games, go 16, sooner or later you have to even for less demanding games.

I'm probably done with this game until patches. Just ran into a cutscene near the tail end of act 2 that I completely missed because it was constantly stuttering down into the single digits fps, and I have a damned 980ti that's /very/ stoutly overclocked.

Game is fun, story is intriguing, but it is simply unplayable for me in this fashion. Love you to death, Remedy. Beat Max Payne probably 20 times, but please fix this fucking shit. I'm not asking for 1080p60, hell I'd happy to be able to play this at 720p30 as long as it is fucking stable, but I can't even get that as it is...

Also, while we are on the subject: does anyone know if Nvidia's drivers are safe to install yet? I'm still on 362 >.>
I missed the same cutscene, feels bad

This isn't the first DX12 game to perform poorly on Nvidia compared to AMD. Not saying that Nvidia is responsible entirely for the poor performance of this port, but... the writing's on the wall. ROTTR, Hitman DX12, and now this.

What else? A couple of AMD sponsored games?

What was with Kepler->Maxwell transition? With Maxwell we've got 2x performance increase for the same money. Nobody forced anyone to upgrade anywhere.

This isn't the first game to perform badly on AMD either. RoTR works better in DX12 on NV if you haven't been following. Hitman works better in any API because it's an AMD sponsored game. Still no sign that there are any issues with DX12 on NV's videocards.

Doesn't look good for NVidia DX12. 780ti and 980ti have been lethal if you pushed the boat out a bit to buy one. I got a 970 at launch for a stop gap until we get off 28nm.

Is pascal up there with async?. I haven't been following the news.
EDIT: Doesn't looked good for Pascal either.

So the launch issues with GearsUE and the performance loss in ROTTR didn't look good for AMD DX12 or something? Jesus, people.

Also, looks like Phil Spencer was 100% right :)

"Going to those teams mid-cycle and saying: ‘Hey, by the way, I want to add a platform' didn’t really feel like necessarily the best way to end up with the best result for the game" - and then Spencer went and did EXACTLY that.

That's because quantum break (and gears of war, and forza, and halo if they decide to port it over) are not about bringing games to pc.

They're just a low effort trojan horse to prop up UWP and windows 10 adaptation.

I can't even open my game today. This game has such great features.

Lol, seriously that is a disgrace.
I wonder if Microsoft are going to offer any compensation for this mess!

Anyone know any tweaks\settings to use in the Nvidia Control Panel - put anisotropic Filtering to 16x and it makes a difference.

On a stock 980ti here and everything maxed and getting solid 60+ FPS no issues here with me thankfully.

I'm on a 980 oc'd, 6700k 4.6, 32gb ram and I'm running 45ish FPS average at a mix of medium/high. Framerate goes to complete shit if I raise shadows any higher or set anything to ultra. It also goes down to 30 in set pieces sometimes.

Seems like the game is extremely vram hungry.

Do you have a way to monitor your FPS or you just think you're getting 60fps?

What cpu, how much ram and what driver version? Edit also desktop resolution of 1080p60?

They won't do shit. I will tell you what though...I wanted to buy gears but ef that. I don't think I will ever tough another windows game again. No steam support, can't use steam link, no geforce support, and you can't even make a freakin shortcut to the game on your desktop. I would really like to add the game to my steam library to use steam link but it looks like it isn't possible. Only microsoft would make PC gaming this much of a mess. If there was only the Windows store....there would be no PC gaming. I have a 980ti w/ intel i7 5630k....can't run the damn game due to god know what. Splash screen pops up and then the game just goes away. Literally no debugging can happen because it closes before I can even do anything. All my steam games work fine though :).

Nvidia newest drivers have been solid for me and I'm sli 980ti + multi monitor. The drivers before last had a nasty bug with netflix that was making a lot of peoples pc freeze but that's been fixed too.

If you want to add the game to Steam: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=195340556&postcount=17

I have an i7-4770 and 16gb of ram with latest nvida drivers & it's on an SSD

Was playing with a controller and couldn't tel if it was smoothl, but with a mouse it is very fluid.. sure there are some dips but overall just feels smooth... maybe its not 60fps but in my obsession with video games its feeling how I would expect it to run.

No. Nothing before the 7xxx series is compatible. Even if it was, it would be kind of pointless as it stands at the moment.

Would a 7970 get the job done for medium settings in todays gaming landscape? I'm not ready to upgrade my PC for 2 years or so, so a small upgrade wouldn't be bad.

I feel for you bro.
Your experience is a good indicator for the rest of us. Basically steer the fuck clear of the Win store train wreck.
Shit has happened with Tomb Raider, happened with Gears and now with Quantum Break.
Yet no matter what happens you know that the Microsoft defense force will be in here soon enough to defend UWP and the Windows 10 store!

How many more class games must be sacrificed at the Win store alter, before they fucking get that no one wants it!

lmao...

It's a shame about the performance issues, as quite honestly, I'm loving the game. Just got to the end of Act 4.

I would really love for these issues to be resolved and for people to have confidence in buying the game... but Remedy has to take responsibility for this. Hopefully future patches solve the issues.

does this help with performance in any way? how stable is it otherwise?

It helps checking the FPS in the game better than using the command-line PresentMon64.

The game is broken, this video from DF tells you all you need to know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK2BUeYqLVI

Game installed on a SSD, running on a i73820@4.3Ghz and a MSI R9 390X Gaming 8GB @1200Mhz, and can't do neither 1080p60 nor even 1080p30, as the in-game 30fps lock is broken too and introduces severe stutter after a while.

Tried DXtory video frame limiter but it does the stutter even worse.

Well, as I said, a 290 beating a 980ti in even one game is downright embarrassing.

Yes but it's *this* game. I wouldn't hold up the performance benchmarks for this title, as any kind of yard-stick for potential DX12 performance in the future. It's a technical shambles.

Damnit, it's a shame that the performance/IQ is so God awful, because this game is FANTASTIC. I'm having an absolute blast with it thus far. Unique take on gameplay with all of the time control powers, and the game's story has a great, well-written B-scifi feel. Feels like a classic Remedy game. The effects are really impressive as well. This game would be stunning if it was a proper port and could run at 4K/60fps.

Instead I have to settle for low res, choppy 30-40fps on my rig. Ridiculous. Still, certainly worth playing. Hopefully performance improves with some patches.

Here's some shots of my playthrough, maxed out at "1440p":

Definitely can be a looker at times. It'd be a gorgeous game at 60FPS and a decent resolution.

May I ask what your specs are.
Game looks stunning in your pics!

Eh. Honestly only go for it if you can find it for dirt cheap. Otherwise you're better off waiting.

has anyone tried it disabling or lowering volumetric lighting and taking off vsynch?

also running it borderless?

curious to see if that gives a performance boost.

Yeah the game is so good I can look past most of the issues, and I'll gladly do more playthroughs if and when they patch it.

I noticed some sort of update for quantum break in the windows store. Not sure what it does or if it made any improvements. I haven't seen any patch notes or anything.

I hope the first patch fixes three critical things:
- add missing triple buffering
- fix broken frame pacing
- fix bizzare 50fps on 60Hz bug (feature?)
- (BONUS) add missing Quit button ;)

These are absolutely essential fixes to make the game playable. Giving us real 1080p res without 720p reprojection would be nice (and also option to disable grain would be appreciated), but I would not count on it. I suspect the game was designed with this reprojecton in mind, so it will not be possible to just disable it with one checkbox. Hopefully I am wrong.

Yeah, just like all those other recent ports than run 4K/60fps maxed out no problem ;)
