Rainforest emitting more c02 than it absorbs now?

It's the deforested parts that are emitting CO2. The strategy is the same, nothing has changed, those dead trees need to be replaced with new trees.

What a crappy article. They twist the words to cause this kind of confusion. These parts don't emit more than they absord. They claim that deforestation is emitting more carbon than the amount of carbon the new trees that grow back are absorbing and possibly are able to absorb.
 
It blows my mind that people actually think that you can give Leo DiCaprio and his friends boatloads of taxpayer dollars and they'll just wave a magic wand to fix the climate.
Biggest swindle in our history.
No one will ever know where that money really goes and there's no way to prove or disprove that anything was accomplished.

If catastrophic and irreversible climate change happens later than one guy predicted, does that mean we should continue to ignore it until it truly is immanent? That's some seriously bad logic there.

you should read his climate awareness report made in the 80s and then come back here after. Spoiler alert : most of what was predicted in it actually happened at a faster rate. Don't be a melvin

To be clear, the planet will be fine, but some of the things that live on it, like for example, humans who have built 80% of their population on coasts and waterways, probably not so much.

The weatherman and news forecasts cant even get it it right the day before. Tomorrow calls for rain. None.

So even with all the fancy computers doing all the crunching numbers and direction of air currents and shit to tell the city what will happen in the next 24 hours can be wrong.

So for any of them to predict what happens in 20 years, I'd put zero money on it.

Here's the problem: Yes, non-manmade factors like solar irradiance can cause the earth to get colder.

BUT THEY ALREADY ARE. The earth should be getting colder right now. Which means more than 100% of the warming we're seeing is man-made.

Scientists have mountains of data to analyze and see trends. It's much different than daily weather. I will say that the global climate crisis has become political and some reports have got it wrong.

It is an issue but not as prevalent as some extremist make it out to be. It doesn't me we shouldn't discuss it and work to stop it before it gets worse.

And if we are wrong and it's all a conspiracy so what? We end up making the world a better place as we learn to live in a more symbiotic way. There is nothing wrong with that.

I agree that humans have contributed to warming, but how much who knows.

To give an example of how way off people are, 40 years ago people were amping up the narrative oil is running out. In 2021, were all still humming and based on new oil discoveries, the oil reserves are maybe even growing. Of course, theres only so much oil on earth so you cant keep finding hidden oil reserves forever.

But it shows how totally off scientists are.

Trust me, dude, you "thinking too much" is not a concern.

There are reams of scientific papers about us going into a cold period. Climate deniers like to point to headlines from the 70s worrying about the "new ice age" as evidence scientists don't know shit about climate, except it's true, solar irradiance has gone down, we're just heating the earth up faster than that...

But if we know oil is going to run out and the ice shelves are going to melt, why are we haggling about the scheduling instead of doing anything about it?

They are just theories. We don't know enough to accurately state what will or will not happen. We are only taking guesses based on the limited amount we know.

I'll take an informed guess over a completely baseless hope that it'll all work out "somehow."

The stakes for being wrong here are pretty high and there's not a lot of evidence for the "It'll be fine" scenario.

You people aren't paying attention. People like him need a better example than pictures of ice. He doesn't care about the ice. What are the actual effects of that ice decreasing? Gotta be more than less ice in pictures.

Ice sheets melting doesn't make the water rise. Ice caps sliding off the land into water does.
It's like how when you climb into a bath you displace the water.
