RE4 Remake is visually underwhelming

Anybody else feels this game doesn't look as hot as it should?

The art style is on point and the combat is good, and although the graphics are excellent they're not mind blowing like the OG was on the PS2. They're on par with 2 and 3 Remake and those are last gen games. I think Capcom aiming to port this everywhere (including last gen and mobile) really held the visuals back.

I'm currently playing on PS5 Pro with all the bells and whistles, Ray-tracing, HDR, resolution mode, VRR uncapped on a 65" inch OLED, even that phaggy "hair strand" setting turned on. Yet the game just doesn't pop to me. Even with the 4K resolution the image doesn't look crisp, everything's kinda blurry and inconsistent.

It's kind of a bummer because I don't think we're getting another shot at a remake of this game for the rest of our lifetime, and Capcom decided to cook this on a freaking PS4.

Still an excellent game and an instant classic, just as the original; but the graphics had a lot more potential.

Well I mean all the REngine games are basically just RE7 with small improvements, and that's nearing a decade old at this point.

I thought it looked amazing, honestly. This sounds like a bad take to me.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Looks great to me and that was the OG PS5 and blurry? the material quality is great, not too keen on the Hair though, switch that off, I think it looks better
And what shit TV are you guys using
You're playing on a PS5 Pro... that's your problem, get a decent PC with a 4070 or better and enjoy the graphical fidelity.
If he ain't impressed with it on the PS5 Pro he ain't gonna be impressed by the small gains the MR boast about, if anything he'll be even more unimpressed

Yes, its very underwhelming compared to the best looking games, but its good enough imo.

The fact that its a horror game with realistic art style and setting means that itll rely purely on the graphics to visually carry it and games like this always look mid in just a year or two even if theyre the graphics king on release, which RE4 wasnt.

Disable chromatic abberration, depth of field, motion blur, callibrate your tv if you havent already and itll look better.

Well, the RE4Make was developed using the same engine, so it's no too surprising that it's not an upgrade, visually.

A great game, but it didn't really need a Remake at all. The OG still holds up reasonably well.

To be fair, the original RE4 had visuals that were incredible for the time. They were miles ahead of almost any other game that gen in what they were attempting. RE4R looks really good to me, but not groundbreaking the way the original was.

I agree. It's comparable with the red 2 remake and Capcom's custom engine. It's also on PS4. It does look very good dont get me wrong, but it is not graphically impressive at all.

The game also running on a PS4 is likely the only reason you're able to play it in Resolution Mode, with Ray Tracing and Hair Strands, at stable 60fps on your console looking like this.

And the game looks drastically different (and much better if we talk about still screenshots) with DoF, CA, Lens Distortion and Motion Blur turned off compared to these images where it's all ON.

this is why I play it on PC

Looks crisp af!
It does look crisp as fuck, however for some reason vegetation is less dense at times in the PC version.

I do think the visuals drop off after the intro, but that’s because it gradually becomes less about atmosphere and goes full bore into retarded action game

Played it on the base PS5 earlier this year and I thought it looked and ran great. Not the sharpest IQ, but still pretty decent.

Im glad they designed it with PS4 in mind. Current gen only Capcom games look like shit on console if you want 60fps (though I guess the Pro helps with that)

I mean this is what you get when you have lazy devs releasing last Gen games 3 years into the generation. They didn’t put in the effort to make it look next Gen and it shows. The game has its moments like the original village area and some interiors like the castle but overall it is one dated looking game. Hell i think village looked better.

Most people loved it because it has 60 fps modes and that’s all we need anymore. We deserve last Gen graphics.

I mean, I get OPs point.

The mediocre (and in some areas, even insignificant) first-generation RT capabilities of the RE Engine are pretty noticeable across the whole game; it also doesn't do anything fancy with it's geometry to take advantage of the new consoles; and definitely doesn't live up to the legacy of the original RE4 in regards to being a generation-defining graphical showcase back on the GameCube.

I thought it looked great on Series X until they lowered the resolution with the first patch. Framerate was a bit iffy though.

They did the same with RE3, it ran at native 4k on the One X originally but the framerate was all over the place. So they just lowered to the same res as the PS4 Pro (1440p) in the first patch and called it a day.
