Redfall |OT| Left with dead

Things this game DOES do well:

Audio. The soundtrack is fantastic. Voice acting for me has been on point. General creepy sounds to add atmosphere are exactly what you want from a great game.

The jump scares have been superb. Multiple times a vamp out of nowhere teleports on me and I crap my pants. On hard mode it can get wild when a vamp only needs 2-3 hits to kill you.

Lastly, the nests are the highlight of the game so far. Visually the most interesting to look at, provide the best challenge, and give the player the most reward. This should've been the base for which the game was built upon.

The composer for RedFall is also providing the score for the upcoming Transformers film Rise of the Beasts.

The music, really all the sounds, are exceptional. The indistinct coughs and whispers add a lot to the atmosphere.
Rant: took me a minute to place the influence but I get a lot of Blade vibes throughout. The vampires are a lot more goofy and modern, particularly the bloodbags and the blood gas statues. Sound design and visual design reminiscent of Blade, especially the death animation with the ribcage fading to dust.

Spent a few hours with the game. I just don't get it. It's almost offensively bad. Like someone's cruel mockery of what made Arkane games fun to play. Graphics aren't so much bad as feeling like a game from 15 years ago.

I almost feel like it's not worth fixing.

Yes there is actually a lot of fun to be had, there is a good game here being held back by the launch issues most games seem to suffer from these days.
Once they are sorted and the 60fps update comes then I think opinions will shift over time.

No need I'll just watch it on youtube.
There are half a dozen other threads where you can join the mob in shitting on the game (that you've never played).

Just finished the shipyard mission, that was another pretty good one. Before that I had one that involved nothing more than fast travel to a graveyard, deposit an item (and steal it back for an achievement) then fast travel back to base. Both of those seem to have equal weight in the grand scheme of things, so the quality is all over the place.

The graveyard one has more to do later.

Played an hour or two. I'm not getting the abject hate for this game, it has some issues especially with enemy AI, but overall I enjoyed the time I played and thought it looked good as well in a highly detailed but stylized kind of way. I haven't played any other looter shooters though, so maybe it's just because this is fresh to me. I definitely wouldn't know the game was supposed to be an abject piece of shit though without the reviews.

I've had fun each time I played it. I make up my own mind on what I think about games.

Graphics can definitely be optimized but I think its fun.

Same here, I also find plenty to do despite what people say about it being barren. The vampire nests which are great, the safehouse missions, the Rook appearing. There is a lot going on, it also looks really nice at night and the sound is superb.

How do I get rid of the red mist? I'm on a mission where I needed to get three safehouse underboss skulls to open a door. Got them all, but I didn't realise they were consumables, and I foolishly put one on a red chrysalis thing I'd seen earlier (it gave me a cosmetic item and took the skull). So the only other safehouses I've found are one that needs a key (boathouse, can't find it) and one surrounded by mist.

There was a weird multiplayer thing going on with one of those underboss missions. I was meant to fend off loads of bloodbags before they could get to a chrysalis, and I had maybe 30 seconds remaining when I died and got respawned at the safehouse. But the mission continued as if I had other players present, and the bloodbags didn't have enough time to complete the chrysalis so I automatically went on to the next stage.

This game doesn’t seem very long. I’ve got what looks like 3 missions left ?

I’ve only found one place to place a skull at so far but I assume if I do them all then I can go clap a vampire God. So, beat main story , beat a God, seen it all ?

Even if it had remained a GaaS title there’s not enough content to create a loop here to support that.

1) light.
look for a generator
2) had the same thing happen. whether that's a feature or a bug has (like several other things in this game) yet to be determined...

i continue to have fun. i've managed to liberate all 5 neighborhoods, but they all still have enemies in them? oh, well...

I did the same with a skull. Does it save? I put a skull on a pid but I haven't done the other two. Do I need to go and get another skull now or does it save that one?

I think once you place a skull it’s gone and it auto saves. I put one on a chrysalis overlooking the bay to see what it would do, then when I went to open the door I only had two left.

Fuck sake. How do you know where all 3 are? And can you just replay the missions from the safe house to get more?

Seems like there's one skull attached to each safehouse, so five skulls to find. The missions don't appear to be replayable. I assume there are two locations where you can put skulls to get bonus stuff (I found one) plus the three you need for the Hollow Man door.

I just went back and did the safehouse that was protected by mist - took maybe 15 minutes, it was an easy one and luckily I'd only wasted one skull. One safehouse is still locked because I can't find the key, but I got everything else I needed. Here's my map, in case you're missing the location of a safehouse.

When I went back to the door with my extra skull, the two I'd already placed were still there.

It says I can go into the Hollow Man's lair now. I hope this isn't the endgame, I've played less than 12 hours according to the Xbox app. At first I was playing mainly to spite the people who are losing their shit about it in the other threads - kind of like playing Hogwarts Legacy to piss off the purple hair mob - but it's actually really good. Thought I'd do one more mission last night and ended up playing about five hours. Any reviews that give this 4 or 5 out of 10 are purely trying to make a point (about what, I have no idea).

Installed it for the same reason last night. I don’t hate it but the reviews on XB that say it’s like a game from 2012 are right.

I read somewhere there is another map, haven't got to that myself though.

Soooooo

I've finally been able to find time to launch the game for a couple of hours aaaaaaaaaaaand....

It's like... OK... its definitely a mess but it's definitely a playable game 🤷‍♂️ the gunplay is pretty iffy but I was able to shoot things.

It really does seem like the plethora of issues come from the optimisation, the game definitely should have been delayed.

The gameplay itself can't be fixed but it definitely would have netted some 7s if it at least released in decent shape.

Keen to try co-op and see if that's an utter mess. Otherwise it's like, alright

I'm not sure what major innovations have happened since then that this game is lacking. Battle royale and loot boxes? Or if they mean it looks like an Xbox 360 game, I don't think it's quite that bad (on PC at least).

Just got there myself, I was half expecting the game to end when I beat Hollow Man. He barely put up a fight, I just smashed him in a couple of minutes. The invisibility power effectively lets you pause the fight, heal up, move to a better location and get a couple of free hits, the enemies don't have any answer to it.

I need to play more, been busy. I am lost on all of this vampire god and hollow man and skulls.
I know it's not exactly the best game of the gen/year/month/week but I'm pretty addicted to it at the moment. Maybe because it hasn't handed me a beating yet - there's nothing I find more demoralising in a game than repeatedly failing a level, but difficultywise this reminds me of Crackdown once you max out the super powers and nobody can touch you.

Question, what does the fang icon on the map mean? It’s the Reyes house, I got in through a window on the roof. I cleared out all the vampires and got a vial of vampire blood, but the icon is still there and crows are circling the house as if there’s something else I need to do.

I’m going through the theater now. The vibes in the game are very creepy, it’s very cool.

I had the same question and still not figured it out. I thought it meant vampire nest but it wasn't in the zone.

I thought it was somewhere with a vampire blood thing to loot. Same thing happened to me, the icon never went away and the birds kept circling over the house. Probably a glitch.

Speaking of glitches, what's going on here?

I've been playing it for a bit and it's definitely bad, but it's so incredibly easy that I'm willing to finish it, just because it was on GP.

On a side note: this morning I was about to say "Man, it's incredible...despite how buggy and broken this game is, I've yet to encounter the infamous T-Posing...it's really missing only that"...and then...

The bingo is complete

Beat the game last night. Heads up if you're a completionist: don't do the last mission if you still want to explore for collectibles/lore/etc, because the game will automatically start up a new game the next time you load in with no warning.

Anyway, NG+ (if you can call it that) seems extremely half-baked so far. It's literally just starting from scratch again - the weapons vendor is back to square one (only two weapons available in common quality), no vampire god mechanic until you progress again, skulls don't carry over, etc etc

That said, I had a decent time with the game overall. I'll hop on to help some friends but I don't see myself grinding out levels/gear until they improve the game.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Played a bit of this yesterday since I still have GP.

Game had a lot of potential to be decent to good. But my god is it bad.

Did a test of the A.I to see if those twitter videos were just nitpicky, but nope. Standing DIRECTLY in front of dudes and they literally just ignore me. Holy shit. Worst A.I I have seen in decades. lol

Will give it 1 more whirl before I uninstall.

I just finished first area. Game is alright. It feels like a meh game. Like what I'd expect from a 2013 Xbox One launch title. Nothing special. I kind of like the whole formula where its main quests from the middle of the area, then safehouses spread around for the side quests.

I'm going to finish the entire game. I wouldn't have paid more than $20 for the game though. I wouldn't be playing if it wasn't on game pass.

Did my first nest, kind of meh. It doesn’t really explain it very well, so after you destroy the heart, do you spend the timer collecting as much loot as possible or do you pick one of the opened areas to loot and then try to make it back to the start?

We’ve heard MS had Arkane take out some of the GaaS elements. I have to wonder how that affected the core gameplay. I know they said a ton leading up to release that it’s perfectly fine solo but it really seems like the game was designed to be co-op. Some of the powers are worthless solo.

I am in a weird place with this game. I have decided to shelve this game till they fix everything.

I really enjoyed gameplay loop, atmosphere, voice acting, music etc, so will definitely will be back and hoping for a steady stream of content.

But am unable to hit that delete button. Getting an urge to play more, even though I can see this becoming a lot better if supported properly.
