It's entirely possible Starfield will be a great game. A system seller even. But idk...does anyone feel THAT confident in Bethesda releasing a GREAT game, off the heels of Fallout 4 and 76? In an era where so many devs can't seem to get their shit together? Todd Howard and Bethesda are gonna be the ones to release a polished product, in a sea of buggy, unfinished games?

Bethesda's jank was forgiven back in an era when large open world games with tones of detail were still a novelty. We'll need to see if they'll get the same treatment in 2023.

That's what I've been thinking. Even Witcher 3 got a pass for being a jankfest in 2015, while Cyperpunk got crucified.

Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. Skyrim's an outstanding achievement but it ran like shit back in the early days. Also, this is a new IP - beloved IPs tend to get extra leeway because people are already invested in those worlds and are just happy to go back. Starfield is gonna have to do all the legwork here and technically it'll need to be a cut above previous efforts.

Spencer better not pull this shit with Starfield. If that game needs to wait until 2024 then fucking delay it.
Yeah I don't think this will happen.

At some point the game has to be out otherwise it will be fucking up the launch windows of other big games in their 2024 pipeline*.

* I am being charitable in assuming they have some, but who the fuck truly knows when it comes to Xbox? That management has turned disappointment and mass fan anger into an art form by this point.

I genuinely don't understand why Xbox makes such a huge deal out of MAUs and user engagement.

Like, these are stats you would normally see by the likes of Twitter or Facebook, because they sell ads, so it matters how engaged the userbase is with the platform, but Xbox doesn't sell ads, they sell consoles, games and subscriptions.

It's mind boggling imo.

You will understand when Greenberg tweets “Redfall was our most discussed game since Halo Infinite. We are humbled by the passion shown by the Xbox community. #🔑🙅🏼‍♂️🙅🏿‍♀️

It’s because it’s the only stat they have and it baffles people and sounds high.

I'm going to play it today. I watched two hours of the PC version last night and it looked good. No glitches. Is the issue just with Xbox?
I played on PC, don't have an X, and the issues are all firmly rooted in the game's design itself for me. The AI is just fucking inexcusably bad and the movement and gunplay just don't feel good at all to me. It's the game equivalent of my cock. Stiff, dumb and releases too early.

One thing is for certain though, the pressure to deliver at Bethesda must be even greater than before now.

Todd right now looking at his team:

Fallout 4 was great. Yeah bro shooter people hated the optional base building but I loved it. Fallout 76 you have a point. I never wanted multiplayer or an mmo so I can't talk on the matter really.

I don't see them bombing on starfield. It's a new ip and I'm sure it will be great. They no how to make good games.

I voted 70-80%. My gut was telling me the 60s, but I thought the game might get a few pandering pts with the edgy Black lead character. Guess not.

I'll read up on the reviews another time. Leafs game 1 is on tonight! I love reading up on trainwrecks. Always amazing when you got games made with shitloads of budget and in modern day probably 3-5 years dev time (if it's not an annual kind of game), yet the employees make a shit game and the bosses green light it for sale anyway.

At my company, there's times we delay a product a year for tiny issues like the plastic cap has to be redesigned (which can require a new packaging supplier). If it doesn't hold to solid QA testing in the labs, we put it on hold. Its not like the company is like "lets just sell what we got now and fix the cap later on as we go". No, you put a halt to it if it's sketchy. It's not like giant corporations cant absorb a few hits or delays.

Game companies are like..... "sell now, patch later". And if it still sucks, "oh well, let's hope the next game we hype up makes them forget about our last game"

"To all those who pre-ordered..... Gotcha!"

It has fun physics/dynamic fire puzzles. Combat is really unique and allows for a lot of options. Game can be insanely janky and creates genuine laughs. The focus on trying to create a videogame version of a big-budget TV show also leads to laughter. I know it sounds dumb but the game really tries to emulate a Half-Life 2 style experience and it works surprisingly well in a janky way. I'd post some clips from my twitch/youtube but I don't want to expose my shitty channels in a thread this big.

Also, if things get too frustrating, just go to the menu and skip to the next checkpoint (DVD menu style system).

I can't speak to the 360 version, Inferno got some extra TLC. I'm actually in the middle of doing a platinum run, it's really easy and has been fun but I've been side tracked by VR.
Thanks for that, I've never played it but never seen a genuine positive recommendation of it.

Ok so... it's out

Can we start a new game now that won't suck and ideally before the next gen? How do you go from Prey to this, i'll never know. But move the fuck on please, don't gimp a team to support crap like this. Do bare minimum to fix it, as you already did bare minimum to release it anyway.

This gen's time is running out fast

Yea dude, it's actually available for streaming on PS+ Premium, I traded in my physical copy a few years back, streaming it was fine but made me want another physical for the triple so I recently ordered one off eBay and was playing it a lot a few weeks back. It's a super unique game, janky for sure but definitely worth checking out if you can be patient and don't mind experimenting with the gameplay mechanics.

Yikes!!!

I didn't expect this one to be a turkey.

WTF is happening at MGS?! Even former top-tier devs like Arcane suddenly start shipping tripe games under MS studio management. It's a ridiculously bad look for MS.
It can be argued why Arkane would even be let to do a game like this. It's nothing like their Dishonored games or Deathloop.

Early Jan is when I heard it needed another year and they almost got it while MS brass was pushing for an early '23 release

I did ask last night if there was any good news recently on Starfield with how Redfall launch turned out and the only reply I got was a laughing gif

This one specifically

Spider Man Lol GIF
Oh no

Well, when you have performance like this on the release day, what other metrics you could push

Arkane got rocksteadied. I don't blame either studio.

If you get a PS5 before the 9th of May, you can claim the 19 games in the PS Plus Collection. Especially if you missed them on PS4, or if you would like to play a lot of them with improvements on PS5, there are definitely some good games here.

I think it is not possible to claim all 19 titles anymore.
For example I was unable to claim Fallout4 and Until Dawn.

in the tutorial I have already seen floating rocks that aren't placed correctly, right on the main path... and THIS!

how the fuck did they manage to make the geometry warp while you sprint?

That was a deliberate choice to instill the nostalgia of playing PS1 games. Come on, man.

That's assuming it was in development after Microsoft's purchase. There are some games that were probably tied to the sale as a condition of completion, or too far in development to cut costs. This game was in development for years or something wasn't it?

Not sure what I would have expected outside of shit quality. Deathloop was horrendous and that was a Sony title (initially), I just have a feeling Arkane had a good flash in the pan with Dishonoured and hasn't been able to replicate that.

5 years and cant even break windows.

What the fuck is going on in these studios, why are they so untalented?

What a shit game :messenger_grinning_sweat:

my goodness, what happened.

Just delay the game man, its not finished.

I bolded the part I've convinced of now. These studios have clearly lost the talented individuals that made them what they are, and I don't think they're hiring the most talented individuals anymore. I just can't come up with another good reason why all these games take forever and are bad at the same time. It can't all be management. It can't be.

Deathloop has a 88% MC score. That's nothing even close to "horrendous".

Well it's better than the alternative of them losing employees or the studio being shuddered.

Someone posted earlier that even MS just wanted to get this project out of the door, if the game wasn't coming along in a good shape even after a 12 month extension, then it was probably never going to, even if they delayed it again.
Maybe that needs to happen at some of these studios.

It reads like a sarcastic fake. Is this actually real?
I don't know because performance is not the issue at all as I was getting 4k/60 most of the time, with a few dips into the 40s on a 6800XT,the problem is the game is completely shit, and no amount of patches can fix that

Edit: "instead of PC gaming, please run our game at 30fps on Xbox Series X" ffs 😂 it's bad enough at 60

This made me ponder something:

Which $7bn Microsoft acquisition was worse, Zenimax/Bethesda or NOKIA? At least NOKIA put out a few decent flagship Windows Phones. So far the only decent thing the Zenimax acquisition has gotten Microsoft has been Hi-Fi Rush and an old game library for Game Pass fodder.

They could have licensed that catalog content for pennies on the dollar.
