RESIDENT EVIL 5 Demo up on US Marketplace.

So this is the same Japanese demo that came out a bit ago right? If so then meh. Inventory is terrible and it doesn't feel like a Resident Evil game. It's just missing something imo.

Some of you guys sound like you never played RE before, what gives?
I'll be playing later tonight but...I've only played the first one (Playstation) and Code Veronica (Dreamcast). Wasn't fond of the controls then either, but the games were good. So we'll see.

I am a huge RE fan, but one thing that have been bothering me since RE4 is why are enemies always stop in front of you and circle around you, instead of hitting you right away? It makes it even weirder after playing Left 4 Dead where zombies just run over you.

Whats wrong with the inventory? It seems better than past RE games. You've got a "portable storage box" that also helps along the way, and you dont have so spin things all over to make sure something fits.

Well that could change in the retail I guess. Wouldnt be the first time. Doesnt really bother me though. Honestly I want the old school typewriter font back.

Hard and Pro mode WILL be AWESOME in co-op.

Oh and tweak the brightness in the options menu to the recommended value for optimal atmosphere. Seems like RE5 is the first RE for a few people in this topic, so figured i'd put the info out there.

Oh fuck are you telling me that hard mode is available right off the get go followed by Pro mode?

Damn A hard mode play through right off the bat for me and a partner would be amazing. I wasn't having a difficult enough time with the difficulty in the demo so getting some harder situations should be awesome for a first time coop playthrough :)

It's fucking annoying when you need to combine and use herbs while enemies are attacking you. It feels like they did that to make it "zomg INTENSE" but it just ends up being frustrating.

I loved that damn attache case though. :(
I spent tons of time just re-arranging stuff as a little mini game. :D

Just to clarify, all that is certain is that there are three difficulties to start with it.

It might be normal, easy and casual or something like that, although I doubt it. ;)

I loved it too. :(

But, to be fair, removing it is justifiable.

a) it's an online game
b) you'll constantly be swapping stuff with your partner; and
c) your not taken out of the action to rearrange, so it would get a bit... difficult :lol

I'd have to hear what changes for hard mode. If its more enemies and damage taken and that sort of thing I'm in. I don't want money received to go down though! I want my weapon upgrades :D

to the people who want to be able to move slowly when aiming, what would that add? It would just break the game in terms of the AI and not really make the game any more fun

That little add will destroy the feel of clunky and stuck. That's it. It doesn't make game more fun. It make game more playable for the majority of potential audience outthere. OK?

I guess I can see that. During some RE4 bosses I did have to do that.

Then again, Dead space and SH V took that step (well not so much SH V since you can still go into the menu).

Real-time item management worked pretty well for me when playing it co-op. Covering each other at appropriate times when one of us had to access the inventory added to the tension, and fit well with the game.

In some of the media released from the Oil Refinery and Warehouse levels, they show the Chainsaw man getting knocked back by the shotgun, although never floored. ;)

There will be an easy, medium and hard mode available right off the bat, as well as an unlockable Pro mode, so it will be interesting as to how they scale up the harder modes.
Aha. Considering I've completed the demo probably 50 times now, I'm almost disappointed the game doesn't have as many difficulty levels as Devil May Cry 4. This is a game I'll definitely spend an insane amount of time with.

And holy eek, letting Sheva use the rifle against the chainsaw guy definitely made a huge difference. I haven't completed that mission so well before. I got hit a total of one time, Sheva wasn't damaged a single time, and the way she quickly got headshot after headshot against the chainsaw guy was marvelous, and I also had a ton of ammo left after the boss died.

I think I've discovered how the 2 modes for Sheva really works. Cover mode is basically "Ashley with pistol mode" and attack mode is "crazy Japanese player go crazy mode".

To anyone who might want to import the 360 Asian version of the game from Play Asia, I just got this response from Capcom support:

On 1/25/2009 you posed a question to CAPCOM Customer Support which was noted as inquiry 10001.Response:

Hello,

To the best of my knowledge there the game does not have any region locks that would prevent it from playing. You may want to contact Microsoft to confirm that your region Xbox 360 will allow this.

online co-op is still not working I guess. It never connects to another player. It was working earlier.

Resident Evil 4 is one of my all time favorite games, but after the demo play through of RE5, I'm not feeling it. The controls, the way the enemies run toward you, then start circling when they are about 10 feet away, little things like that detract from the experience. The graphics are awesome, and Sheva (sp?) is a great partner. We'll see, I'll go through the demo again and will hopefully enjoy it more.

I'm really liking the difficulty. And when you die there aren't those lame checkpoints that start you off like 10 steps before where you died.

Played the first mission single player.

Pretty meh on it so far. I was afraid this was going to happen :(

Who the hell is this main character? Certainly isn't Chris, this roided out dude doesn't look a thing like him. Haven't known him long enough to see yet if he acts like Chris or not. Something was a bit off about the combat too, I don't know - it was almost a sloppier version of RE4 - the enemy animations arent as fluid as one would expect for an action (horror?) game. And it's all bright and shiny, where is the dirty dark Resident Evil behind this paint? Sigh.

(Graphics wise, felt the same thing about Silent Hill Homecoming. next gens great and all, but it sure takes away some of mysteriousness and griminess and desolation of the older versions of these games, now it's all painted and shiny and clean and you can see each individual detail too brightly and highlighted. Maybe im crazy, but someone must get me here)

Didn't everyone play RE4? Jesus, some of you missed out on one of the best games ever.

The control type feels like riding a bicycle backwards, but it's still a godsend compared to the old shitty games. It's sort of an enforced tension. If this game has half the awesome inside that 4 did, you quickly forget and adjust and it seems to work. You just can't jump in the same way you do most generic action adventures.

The controls are actually the same as classic RE games, it's just the perspective that is changed. ;)

It's not Chris because he's bulked up? Silly complaint.

Doesn't seem like you get the point, even though this has been known since the first trailer: the game is supposed to be bright and shiny. It's meant to be the opposite of the dirty dark Resident Evil. If you didn't know that 2 years ago, I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah I liked that. My parter was keeping some enemies at bay while I ran up behind him, swung around, took out my sniper rifle and head shotted the chainsaw wielding guy, we kept switching up and protecting each other. It was intense, very satisfying.

Tried it with a friend?

Oh and QTE chainsaw dodging is needed. Didnt think the gate past the guy was locked...got cornered and bzzzzzzt.

Also generators are helpful environmental hazards.

RE4 was my favorite game last gen, but since then, most game controls advance / change / move on. The game feels so clunky right now. Probably feel the same way if I went back to play RE4. I'll still buy it, but definitely, no where close to favorite this gen.

If anything, I thought the chainsaw man was too easy to get past, because he takes so long to actually swing now. :lol

yeah chainsaw man is a pussy now :(

you have to actually try to get chainsawed. If you don't stand still i don't think it's possible :lol

Game is so awful.

Re-uses animations from RE4, a lot of the same sounds...

Only add in a terrible inventory system (worse than RE4) and a partner to babysit.

Rock on!

I think I encountered a bug with Sheva's AI. I shot a barrel on the first level and she just walked through the fire a few times and eventually killed herself. :\

11/10 game confirmed. Haters decimated.
Damn, need to play this now.

i liked the demo. left me wanting more. i am worried that it's going to more of an action game than a survival horror game. i want my old school resident evil jumps.

In all seriousness, how many different ways do you expect trained people in the same universe to swing a knife? The inventory doesnt require you to shift things around, and the only "bad" thing is that it's like Dead Space where you have to do stuff while gameplay is still going on. You can now organize your weapons or items to be quick selected, so I don't see what the problem is other than people not getting used to real time item use.

And you still have old fashion "whoa didnt know they were there" moments.

This could be PR fluff, but according to Jun Takeuchi (producer of the game and is basically the games representative from Japan) there will be a lot of moments that contrast the high tension daylight areas.

It feels weird that the game is launching in March. With all of the recent media fluff going on it seems like a February 13th release date might have been better :(. Probably has something to do with SFIV releasing.

After the first initial unveil, I went on black out. So yes, I didn't know that 2 years ago. I can still be disappointed in the direction though, no? I mean, I'll get it, but some games just don't live up, it's ok

What is it again? SFIV February, RE5 in March, BC in April?

It will have dark areas. The bright sunny areas are still pretty gritty and nasty. Makes the dark areas even worse since your "eyes" have to develop.

Adjust the brightness to optimal level for your TV in the game options screen. Makes things ALOT more atmospheric. The sunlit areas still have the bright hot and dry look, and the dark areas are naturally so, with light filtering in at points.
