RESIDENT EVIL 5 Demo up on US Marketplace.

What is it again? SFIV February, RE5 in March, BC in April?
Yeah it's pretty much that, although I don't think BC has been confirmed.

You know, as sad as it is to see some people not liking the controls, I much prefer threads like these than ones that are uniformly positive/negative. It's much more interesting.

Might just be demo syndrome, where you know you somewhat like a game because of the demo, but everything really clicks in the full version, when you are actually playing the game to succeed.

Im still undecided on whether I want to find a GAF XBL partner to go through the entire game with, or just play single player with co-op open to my friends list at all times.

Sometimes, first time surprises are cool with a co-op partner...but I wouldnt want to team up with someone who doesnt really have time to play when you really get into the story.

...Then again it does release Friday 13th...so maybe it wont be so hard to get a co-op partner for a decent chunk of the game like I did for Gears 1.

I'm going to play through the single player campaign first, if only because I doubt anyone I would be playing with will want to play through as much as me, as quickly as me. :lol

I just played the RESIDENT EVIL 5 demo and I enjoyed it a lot. For the people that are whining about the demo, don't buy the game and get on with your life.

Stop complaining about controls the controls are fine try to practice your aiming and stop blaming the game for your poor skills. I spent 2 solid hours playing this in co-op with a mate and the game is truly a blast so far its shaping up to be with one of the best co-op games made I absolutely love it :D . Dead Space is a han-solo experience and should not be compared with Resi 5 in this day & age all games should have co-op no excuses.

I can't download it even though I have XBL gold. Does anyone know why this is? It just says "This account is not permitted to download content with this rating"

I seriously urge yourself or any other person to play this game in co-op first I cannot stress enough how much better the experience is (at least based on the demo). Better to try and get a good friend or some one who will be there from start to finish..

You need to go into your console settings and change all the family settings to allow everything. :)

Just finished both levels.

Feels almost exactly like RE4, but that's what I love about it. My muscle memory of shooting someone in the face and running up to punch/kick them started to come back again. Partner system sometimes works well, but sometimes just works against you (especially on the 1st level axe dude and the 2nd level chainsaw guy). I just hope the random factor of having a partner isn't so big that you can lose hours of playtime just because of bad partner AI. Is there a command to make her stay at one place?

I'm not sure what I think about the new inventory management yet. On one hand it makes the game more realistic and intense, but on the other hand I suck at it and it caused me death a few times.

Still day 1 purchase for me, but I'm buying it for the PS3. Anyone know if the PS3 d-pad can be used as aiming like in RE4? I somewhat wish that the PS3 didn't have trophy system since I love downloading 100% unlocked saves for RE games.. as I'm sure I won't be able to get all of them :lol

Hold B and press down to put Sheva into cover mode. Makes her stay fairly close to you at all times. That and press the B button at random intervals if you think she might be lagging behind. Oh and as always, look out for useful environmental weapons.

Capcom is the best 3rd party developer this gen.

Well, ever. But this gen too.

Now come on Cap, give me sequels to Dead Rising and Lost Planet in 2010.

Thanks for the quick answer, but everything IS allowed... my account does say I'm sixteen though, is it just gonna deny me because of that no matter what?

Its even better now, me & a friend were wrecking pure havoc on the executioner and the chain-saw freak both guns landing continuous head shots then when stunned Chris his tiger upper cut and Sheva her flash kick one after the other for double melee action :D

Also really love the way Sheva's roundhouse kicks smacks multiple enemies - anyone near it gets STFU :D s = smacked

I guess it must. Hopefully you can change it.

You may wanna try finding a download for the demo and burn it to disk. Don't have a link for you, but check the Biohazard 5 demo thread; there was a link to the JPN version there. There's probably a download for the US version floating around somewhere by now.

for the guy who asked earlier, you skip cutscenes by pressing the back/select button.

this demo kicks ass! havent played since playing the JP version a few weeks ago. i wish i could connect to other peoples games though. its being a real bitch about that.

type D controlls FTW. after a few run throughs its very natural.

I'm able to connect to some people, but they all quit on me, grrr.

Edit: Most of them quit just after I walk in front of Chris and whistle. Perhaps they get so confused they decide to quit.

Feels just like RE4.

Gameplay wise, it's fine, if what you want is more RE4.

From a presentation standpoint, however, it's horrendous. The graphics, the background and character models specifically, are great; no fault here. Animations are horrible, though, and the HUD and menu systems make me want to claw my eyes out. Are those the same exact barrels from RE4? Oh, and the glowy aura cone around items needs to go. One more thing; RE2 called and wants it's ammo box model back.

Also, what's with the loading AFTER a cut-scene? That'd be like Mass Effect making me take a 5 minute elevator ride and then giving me a load screen as the doors are opening.

I don't think I'm jumping on this train.

me too. it brings up all of these gamer tags (sometimes the same one) over and over, but then goes back to: please wait/joining game. etc.

ive had one person able to join me though, so far.

my GT is in my profile if anyone wants to try to get a game. im going back tto play some more now.

god, i just played with a guy that I'd say he was just trying to find out if I'd be able to do everything on my own :lol . He was running and getting away from zombies alright, now shooting, that was a different story. Well, I guess that's still better than those who decide to attack the axe/chainsaw guy with their knives :lol

The whole having to take care of your team mate aspect made this game a "must have" for me to a "maybe pick it up later".

It really takes a lot away from the game IMO.

You actually don't have to, at all. It's probably all in your head. She looks after herself just fine in cover mode (which she defaults to), even when I steal all her ammo and weapons. :lol

You dont really have to take care of her. Sheva really holds her own just fine. Even picks up items when necessary. You could just set her to cover mode and think of her as a human storage box.

That turns into kicking ass as a team pretty quickly when you replace the AI with a human. The co-op stuff is the best thing this game has going for it IMO.

As a Resident Evil noob can someone offer some advice? I'm playing it like Gears of War and failing BAD!
Youtube some demo playthroughs. ;)

Just remember that you need some space between you and the enemy, and shooting them in the feet/legs knocks them over. Use the entirety of the environment you're presented with to your advantage, don't stay in one place for too long.

You can use melee attacks when you shoot an enemy in the head or other body parts by running up to them and hitting X. Experiment with it a bit. :)

I really hope they improve the AI for Sheva if you decide to play single player.
Have you tried setting her to attack mode?

I really like it, but I hate that it kicks you out every time you die. I'd much rather be able to just restart the scenario without having to wade through the "coming soon" and menu screens.

I'm with Garnett Lee in that, I have no idea why people's expectations for this game have become so fucking sky-high, almost unachievable. "It feels just like RE4". Okay, why is that bad? RE4 was one of the best games of the last generation and easily one of the best shooters ever. Hell, I'd go so far as to say it's one of the best games ever created. Given that, you...don't want the developers to use RE4 as a template?

Oh boo-hoo you still can't move and shoot. If you're going to pass on this game for that reason then it's your loss. The game is going to be amazing.

so uhhh....live markeplace is off limits to silver users today? thats what this message said when i turned my 360 on today:lol i cant access shit but my HDD and friends list

Could you hear me while playing? I could hear you at times, but for some reason your voice kept cutting out.

The last Resident Evil game I played to completion was the very first one, at a friends house on the Playstation. I played a bit of Code Veronica on the Dreamcast, also at a friends house, but not much. And that's it for my RE experience.

So it was with a pretty open mind I tried to play this demo. I say "tried" because it was like beaming into some alternate reality where everything clumsy and counter intuitive is the norm. They want me to manage inventory in real time, but don't automate very basic things like reloading a gun with spare bullets sitting in another inventory slot. They provide a clunky camera system, and then make it worse by making the level consist of narrow alleys and indoor sections. And of course, you can't walk and shoot - or even aim - at the same time. This has the side effect of making the close quarters combat a complete mess.

Dunno. Looked great. Audio and art design is great. The interface and control scheme is so ass-backwards I can't imagine subjecting myself to it for the length of a full game.

Maybe in another ten years Capcom will evolve the controls enough to make it actually fun to play. I'll tune back into this series then.

Paid for a month of live for this cause I couldnt wait a week. Sadly I wont be using the subscription.:lol :/
Demo confirms that this is going to be the first HD game I will buy, enjoy and not have regrets. SO AWESOME.

Also confirms that I will never play with some1 that doesnt know how to play RE.

Single or Local COOP ftw.

AI Sheva is great. Is Sheva actually African; she has a certain English accent?

The game looks great.

My complaints:
What happened to the awesome inventory system that was in RE4?

Real Time inventory system is NEVER a good idea.

Re-used animations.

Not really a complaint but the other control schemes are awful. RE4 controls are the best.

pretty much, I haven't been able to figure it out either. Resident Evil is about creating tension and panic; and I think the controls help achieve this. some have argued that games like Dead Space have much better controls and that you can walk and shoot in that, but I found Dead Space to be about as intense as doing laundry.

i've played the demo a dozen times and never once have i had a problem with the AI. an occasional fuckup isn't anything worth getting worked up about

jrricky, like I said earlier, look at it from a design standpoint.

In an online game, having an inventionary that pauses the action, for both players, would be extremely irritating for the other player, hence having a system that doesn't pause the action becomes a necessity. Then take into account how difficult it would be to play tetris in an attache case as you try and swap weapons with Sheva, all while Majini are swarming your ass.

I really, really liked the inventionary system in RE4, but I just don't see how it could have worked.

I just completed the demo and the people here saying the demo made them decide to pass on the game are lying or crazy...

I agree the control scheme is very clunky and outdated; especially considering the number of enemies they throw at you. In some ways the controls make the experience more hectic, because you are trying to move around and fumble with different weapons, reloading, etc.
I'm not sure if some of that is by design to make the game have a more thriller type experience, but it can be frustrating. I would not say the controls are bad enough to say the game is "broken". Once I actually got the quick turn and run moves down I was able to get around ok...

The AI for Sheva is not the best, but it is adequate compared to other games. Also, I like how you can swap weapons, ammo & health. There was a few times she through me some ammo or did something helpful so it's definitely not terrible, but could use some work. Also more ingame banter between the characters would have added to the since of immersion and a bond with the AI partner. I do have to admit I will do my best to play the game on co-op, because it's a much better experience.

Also, I like the fact you get just enough ammo to get by so you are always worried you are going to run out and this raises the anxiety level during play through. I agree that some QTE with the mini bosses may have been a good move, but it's a gameplay mechanic that has been somewhat overused nowadays.

Finally let me talk about the visuals, because the game looks amazing on my 52" 1080P display! This is the best looking multiplatform next-gen title released to date... I really get that next-gen feeling while playing the game from a visual/presentation standpoint. I have the feeling 2009 is going to really show what these consoles can do.

I agree with others regarding the control scheme needing some work, because it's a bit antiquated by today's standards, but you would be a fool to pass up on this title.
