Resident Evil 5: Untold Stories DLC is FINALLY out on PC and they wanna charge $15

So my GFW live save is gone, do I really need to replay the game to get access to the DLC? Nice one, Capcom.

Isn't the DLC content hidden in a sub menu some where? I swear it's like under special settings or something weird.

Also is your GFWL save data really gone? Did you fresh install or merge? Because that'd be a shame I have like every single weapon and costume unlocked too.

Checked the Special Settings menu, Versus is there but there's a few areas with "??????" so seems like they need unlocking. And yeah, GFWL save is gone unless I can find a backup on an old HDD. Annoyingly had all but one achievement which was for upgrading the last few weapons!

Does it include Mercs Reunion too?

yes

It includes:
Lost in Nightmares - What happened that night? That night when Chris thought he lost his partner… Now you can find out what happened during that mission when Chris and Jill visited the infamous Spencer mansion. Nowhere to hide, nowhere to go, just mystery…the story that wasn’t included in Resident Evil 5 reborn, the nightmare you cannot forget…
Desperate Escape – Safe but exhausted, Jill has collapsed. Awoken by BSAA agent Josh Stone, play through their desperate escape from the Tricell facility, fighting off unrelenting waves of enemies in heart-pumping blockbuster action as they race to assist Chris and Sheva in their final showdown with Albert Wesker.
The Mercenaries Reunion – this new mode brings 8 new playable characters and weapon load outs into the fray, providing players with additional challenges as they aim to shoot down as many enemies as they can within a limited time. Play as one of the unsung heroes of the original RESIDENT EVIL, Barry Burton, take control of one of the stars of RESIDENT EVIL 0, Rebecca Chambers, step into the designer-made high heels of one of villains, Excella Gionne, or take on the role of Delta Team's commander, Josh Stone. Chain together your kills, extend your time and rack up points. Featuring the most extreme weapon selections, The Mercenaries Reunion provides hours of new strategy-induced kill sprees.
Versus Mode - Control Chris, Sheva and other RE5 favorites in online battles of up to 4 players! Compete for points by defeating Majini in SLAYERS or take down other players in SURVIVORS. Fight alone or in a team for a total of 4 exciting variations!
Extra Figures - Unlock items in Extra Figures. You will be able to add figures like Barry and Rebecca to your collection.
Additional Costumes – check out Chris' completely new take on tactical field armor with Heavy Metal, and add a bit of elfin fantasy to Sheva with Fairy Tale. These costumes can also be used in The Mercenaries Reunion in addition to the main story.

Q: How do I access “Lost in Nightmares” and “Desperate Escape” extra episodes?

A: You must complete Chapter 3-1 in the main campaign to unlock “Lost in Nightmare” and complete the full campaign on any difficulty to unlock “Desperate Escape.”

What?

what exactly is the issue with SF?

The game is constantly pinging you with requests for matches even when you're already playing. So it constantly stutters and freezes when playing online and sometimes even offline. This has been an issue since the game came to Steamworks in June, Capcom didn't address it until last month or so, and have done nothing to directly mitigate it.

So... is it normal that after the game updated I lost my GfWL saves and achievements? :|
I really don't want to play through this game on Professional again. Fuck that 2on2 battle.

EDIT:
From the FAQ:
Q. Will my save data be compatible with the new Steamworks version?

A. We’ve implemented a save data and Achievements migration tool that’s built right into each game. The tool will allow you to transfer progress from GFWL to Steam. However, the game will require that you install and sign into the GFWL client since the game needs to authenticate unlocked Achievements recorded on the GFWL service. Those who wish to start the game from scratch can skip the GFWL client installation entirely since the save/Achievement migration is optional.

Note the GFWL save data and achievement migration tool will be ready after launch; please stay tuned for an announcement on the official Steam forum.

So my game has just started updating but I didn't buy this DLC and don't plan to. Can I not play the base game again until this 7GB update installs??

Wait, you mean they actually want to get paid for their work? Those jerks! I can't believe they don't work for free like all of us here.

WHAT? NO!

Goddamit, now I have to check when the download is done to see if my save is still there.

Your save isn't gone. It's just not in the folder they look in now, and its not in a format that can be read by the game currently. Just sit tight until the save import tool is released.

Did you see this from last week?:

We’ve been working together with Valve to improve some of the netcode issues PC players are experiencing with Ultra Street Fighter IV. We recently implemented a change which is now live in the Steam Beta Client.

To subscribe to the beta release, go to [Steam->Settings, Beta participation]. If it doesn't say "Steam Beta Update", click the [Change...] button, and select the Steam Beta Update and let it update. Then, select [Steam->Check for Steam Client Updates] to make sure you have the latest update, and then check [Help->About] and make sure the "Built" string is greater than or equal to Mar 13 2015.

Apparently it's not purely a game-itself netcode issue and the Steam P2P/matchmaking system is part of the issue. No idea if this helps, and we might not know until there's an official client update that everyone is using.

I'll buy it when it is $7.99 or less. This game is old as hell and even with the DLC they can't justify bullshitting and price gouging people on PC. The pricing standards are different from consoles.

Meh, I didn't pay too much for the base game years ago anyway.

Greatest duo ever.

Chris looks so fucked up. I really dislike his RE5 design.

I'll probably end up doing just that since I'm still going through RE6 Mercs. No point in spending 15 bucks to not play it atm.

By modders I assume? I mean, if I wait for Capcom, I'll be playing Resident Evil 7 by then.

I bought the Gold Edition for PS3 for $10 2 years ago. Sure I'd rather play it on PC but not at that premium especially when I prefer physical media.

I don't like it either. Was really disappointed they changed it to that.

Capcom rep posted this on the Steam board
While I cannot get into specifics, the short version of it is that porting Gold Edition content costs a LOT of money. We actually hired a development studio who have been working on the port for the past 7 months. Coding is only part of the overhead as there's QA/compatibility test, submission to certification, and so on. It's an iterative process between fixing, testing, and finding more knock-on bugs that takes many months to complete.

Even though I believe this, I too will wait for a sale. I want it for completeness, but $15 is too much for content I already have on consoles.

Even though I enjoyed Resident Evil 5 and am very glad to finally see the DLC make its way to PC, $15 would be a much less bitter pill to swallow were it not several years late.

I'm making a joke, nobody here agrees with the master race sentiment so surely that's quite clear?

Id advise gamers duck out on the DLC, it's not that good but Resi 5 is like the most underrated game of the last generation so play it if you havent.

You're not very good at jokes.

On topic, I'll replay this game during the weekend. I love RE5. Fuck the haters. If anyone here wants to play coop, here is my Steam profile. I'll probably do a Normal run. Watch all videos and no infinite ammo.

Well, I may be part of the problem people talk about, but I am picking this up tomorrow at $15. I am happy this content is finally on PC and wont be lost when the console networks go away.

I won't challenge anyones opinion on the price, but I think its fair to me for the work required.

- DX10 executable has minor compatibility issues with newer Windows OSs that came out after RE5's original release. In addition, a Microsoft-issued Windows Update (KB2670838[support.microsoft.com]) causes instability for some users.

- Having dual binaries necessitates a separate launcher applet. which means the game cannot be categorized under 'Full Controller Support.' Full Controller Support means you can launch, interact and end the game without the use of KB+M. It's one of the requirements in order to make the game play nice with Big Picture Mode.

At the end of the day, you aren't missing much with DX10. Graphics quality is same between DX9 and DX10, and RE5 does not take advantage of any DX10-specific shaders/effects. The main reason DX10 existed was due to Nvidia's 3D glass functionality that depended on DX10.

Wait, what? I want a Digital Foundry on this if true. Not sure why they'd just use DX10 to support Nvidia's 3D tech when they could've just told Nvidia "no" but *shrug*

I played the game in 3D exclusively using DX9 mode...

Also I was literally just minutes ago playing it in 3D in DX9 mode in this updated version...

It's not perfect like it used to be, but the 3D still works really, really well.

I hate when people try to sell me things I want to buy
This may have been tongue-in-cheek, but in this case I legitimately agree with this statement, having bought this game twice already.

I don't think it is. It's 5 year old content that they merely had to port over, and considering they already had done that with the base game they already had most of the work done in that department, they simply had to throw it into the algorithm. The changing from GFWL to Steamworks was probably another simple change due to them already having experience with the game being on different services (PSN and XBL). Capcom had fees to pay for the conversion, that's it. None of that $15 price tag is for any hard work but merely to cover those fees, now they're a business and I won't fault them for wanting to cover those fees but $15 is too much for that.

You don't know much about programming, do you?
I'm not excusing the price (it is high for me), but to say that they "merely had to port over", "simply throw it into the algorithm" and "that was a simple change" tells a lot about your ignorance.

For the record, in the main RE5 folder (Steamworks version) there's a ReleaseNotes.txt file, probably left there by mistake. It describes 62 builds (from 1757, with a note "brought over 99% code from RE5 into BH5AE", to the final build 3058). There are notes about various bugs that were discovered and needed to be fixed and features that were gradually added or removed from the game. There's no "port to PC" button that just needed to be pressed and automagically creates the PC version and fixes everything.
