Resistance 3 | Review Thread [Update 2: Reviews Coming In]

So what about the 3d mode?

I'm biased of course- but I think our 3D is awesome. Al Hastings spent a ton of time on it to get it right, and it looks really, really good. We had some doubters in the office, and even the biggest critics of 3D were pretty silenced by where R3 3D ended up.

Can't wait to try it out later today. :)

yup. Ratchet style.

Holy crap! I was going to hold out to buy for later (limited time and money these days, what with the new flat purchase) but that one bit of info sold me! Dammit...now I have even more games to play and less time to play them! In a sense, maybe the game not being epic long is a good thing. Though I'll always prefer longer games to shorter. Just much better value for money.

Resistance 3: The most enjoyable FPS campaign I've played in several years. Easily my favorite in the series and worth playing!

Was hoping for a great SP. :)

I totally forgot IGN gave R2 a 9.5. Their scoring has improved so much since then.
Still some ways to go though: "Resistance 3 offers the same polished experience as the last two games in the series"

yes, do not read that review until you've played it. spoilers we fought to protect for the entire marketing campaign is just thrown out there in it.

Yeah, unfortunately I read it, fuck that reviewer for spoiling! :(

I don't think polish was one of the problems of the second game, was it? I know people didn't like it (not everyone of course - I prefer the first, but I enjoyed the SP and particularly the co-op in R2), but I think that was entirely down to design decisions that didn't sit well with fans of the original.

The lowpoint of R2 was when I killed big Titan and two polygonal chunks and a N64 circular red dot remained.

Ah OK, I don't remember having any bugs at all. My bad memories of two are almost exclusively down to the bees and playing with stupid people in co-op.

One thing that is annoying me is R3 is getting blasted for not been innovated enough.
It's hard to innovate within the genre as far as I'm concerned (funny that one of the things people liked about the first - the health system, was a throwback to older FPS games). If the SP has the atmosphere of R1 and the weapon systems from R&C then innovation can go hang as far as I'm concerned.

the only people I trust more than game journalists to tell me about the quality of the game are people who work for the pub/dev.
sigh.

we all know the scores R2 has gotten and we all know how that ended up being.

That's just the Call of Duty argument. Said game comes out and gets compared to Cod. Journalist doesn't think it does enough. Gets average to good scores. Cod comes out and does the same damn thing year in and year out. Perfect scores across the board.

Yep, if the game is good its goods,It would be a problem if it wasn't well done or barebones though, but its not.

Its really inconsistent from game to game.

The one thing that is in CoD's favor is the insane amount of content and replay value you get for 60 bucks. It's pretty hard to innovate in the FPS genre nowadays, but I'm glad to see R3 getting nice scores.

I must admit I thought R3 would get scored in the low to mid 80s range. It's doing much better than I expected. Crow ate.

I expected those scores, even in the gfx departement. Sadly enoug, after R2 and high graphic scores for the likes of COD BLOPS (that's some serious lowres shit...) it means nothing.

Not much just certain parts but mostly this:
We all know the problems with Sony’s multiplayer - its never the seamless experience you will find on the Xbox 360 and Resistance multiplayer specifically has had issues in the past. Unfortunately due to the time restraints of this review, I have not had the option to play online with the rest of the world because the review had to be done before the game was officially out. I have played with small parties of other journalists and have seen what the game could be if Insomniac’s tech and Sony’s infrastructure work as promised. If you are an online-only gamer you should wait to see how the tech fares before you plunk down your cash.

Then again, if you are a hardcore multiplayer fan, are you really buying this game? Do you even have a PS3?

Not sure why this is in a review.

Something about that g4tv review really rubs me the wrong way.

Is it Morgan's complete dismissal of motion controls, her tangent on online passes, or her general negativity for something she gave a perfect score?

Oh god, that review from Eurogamer Portugal is so dumb that it hurts my heart. It's really a shame. They basically say that the flaws of the campaign is the fact that
Capelli never dies throughout the game
, even in the worst situations and that he should have some scars because of the struggle he is making against the Chimera. It even questions the credibility of the campaign in the dumbest way I've ever seen. It is that stupid, as all of their reviews.

Ah, and I should mention they gave 10/10 to Resistance 2.

I'm portuguese and I never visit them. They are so fucking bad.

Ah Reckoner you might want to change your post like now.

Thats all ok I guess, but that last part just annoyed me.

Edit:Wait that online pass part is stupid as well.

great scores. Maybe i can buy a bundle today.. my PS3 died yesterday, but i resurrected it with the towel trick :P. Only temp. though. So i need a new one. Bundle would be great.

I think I know what you're talking about. Just put the spoiler tag in it, but I don't think it is a spoiler in a literal way.

Review X does not comply to my idea so they SUCK!

Seriously... are we not over this?

I think you didn't understand the point. I don't have a problem with them criticizing what game it is, but I have a problem with them criticizing games the way they do. It is dumb and shows the little knowledge they have.

If you read their reviews, you would know what I'm talking about. Trust me. I don't visit them for a reason.

They even criticize the game in most aspects and give it 8/10.

They may have been joking, but there is actually a point here. Joe practically wages a one man war against the Chimera in this game across half of the country. Some of the shit he goes through is rather crazy and its silly and the dude
never makes a sound.

I honestly can't wait for the spoiler thread because that is really the only place I can discuss many of problems I had with this campaign. =(
