I keep reading about this Bard class yet I don't see it anywhere. Something I'm missing?

It's a "Soul" you choose in the Rogue class.

Totally late reply, I should have refreshed the page before hitting submit, doh!

Well patching is all done. Bards look interesting though I'm a dpser all the way. Just debating if I want to go melee or ranged.

So I went ahead and made a banner for the guild. Didn't realize one was already made, but posted it on that graphic thread anyway. Feel free to use it or not if you guys want. Can make changes easily enough if necessary as well.

Pre-ordered, and downloading client. I'll look up all of you who are starting the GAF guild on Belmont, once the head start is underway. Not hugely into raiding these days, but some PvP and such looks like fun.

Anyone know much about the clerics, and what set ups are good for leveling?

Download pretty much went from zero to half in the time I took to make some coffee... I was planning to use the download time as an excuse to do important stuff, sigh.

Been downloading all night (well since midnight est I think). I miss cable. This DSL is okay until things like this need to be downloaded. Started as soon as the patching was enabled late last night and have about 5 hours to go from 7am est. Just left it running when I left today so things should be done I hope when I get home tonight. I hope this includes whatever patches they've made and not just the base version that was included on the dvds. I feel better about getting a boxed copy now. Didn't count on the download (didn't realize there was a headstart at the time of purchase) but don't want to do this again.

Still the wait last night gave me time to poke around the official boards. Ugh. I've tried to stay away from every official mmo message board since I started playing them and it looks like that pattern will continue.

I copied the assets folder from beta to retail. Downloaded 5.91 gb.

Suggested pairings for classes. Just noticed in some videos that when you pick your classes there are suggested pairings. From those that were in the beta how well do those work?

I know you don't have to follow them but is it usually best to do so?

Shaman/Justicar/Druid is popular.

Few seem to be focusing on Shaman though. Druid and Justicar seem to be the popular choice. Not sure why when the Shaman tree is awesome.

Yes and no. Use this to check things out: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html

The pairings have talents that work well together, but the abilities gained are usually similar. (does 23-27 physical damage, or what have you) you end up with some similar abilities and you usually only need one of them. Especially if further talents give bonuses to particular attacks/abilities. The best thing to do IMO is make your second class the one that gives your first statistical advantage. And the third be one that just has a good starting ability.

For instance, on my Shaman, I'll be spending most my points on that tree, and likely the rest in Warden and NOT Justicar or Druid. There are some abilities on both of those that would help, but I would rather take an insta cast heal, and some HoTs to help keep me and groupies alive. On top of that, my Shaman talents pretty much require me to use my Shaman abilities and not those of the other two. My third pick is a sentinel which I won't spend a dime in and only get for the quick insta cast heal it gives you, along with a decent ranged spell.

Really though, its mostly trial and error. Test things out in game. You can always revert back.

Been trying to keep this game out of my head, but now with early access so close I'm struggling to contain my glee. Probably going to go with a cleric of some kind to run with the wife's warrior, but level up a rogue on the side.

Can someone explain how open world PvP is going to work on PvE servers? I've been 100% on going PvP, but now my friends are bitching out and want to go PvE. I absolutely hated being in areas where the opposite faction was, and couldn't stab their faces.

...So, yeah, I'm going to make this guild a success. We have a lot of people on board so far and it'll be great once the game is live and we've gotten our community going.
You've got a nice site and the community, even at this early stage, seems very solid. Just submitted my official guild application. I won't be on a ton and somewhat at odd hours but I hope to get in on the camaraderie when I can.

There...is...none?

Or am I mis understanding the question.

I had no idea that there was no language barrier between factions in this game! That is so awesome! I hate how WoW and its copy cats do that.

Now there's no way I'm going on a PvP server. That would totally kill the opportunity to go into the other faction's area and talk with them!

Basically, you can still kill anyone that isn't flagged for PvE only. On a PvE server you can flag yourself for PvP or disable it any time you'd like. So, the option for PvP is still there - it's just that when you're out questing you can disable the ability for others to fuck with you. You can't do this on a PvP server. That's the main difference... otherwise most everything else is the same. You can still invade their cities/settlements and do warfronts.

So I'm registering at the guild site and planning to play with you guys on NA servers from the headstart. Can I change the "Character name" field after registering since I obviously don't have a character yet and no reliable way to know if my planned name will be available?

Yes. It's a profile entry so you can go in and modify it any time you'd like.

Pre-ordered last night based on the good GAF impressions. I will start on Belmont with the rest of ya, while keeping a close eye on the PVP servers. Still trying to decide what kind of healer I want to be. Probably a Warden eventually and I'll use Justicar to level. Hopefully that should work out OK. Also signed up for Lotus Cross at the website.

Thanks for the answer. So Warfronts are the only constant PvP unless flagged. Ugh.

Are there are big, 2 handed weapon specialist in this game? Since I figure there are no hand to hand monk types...

i tried downloading the client last night off the official Rift page, and it gave me an error saying I wasn't eligble to. Well, it lets me download and install the Life patcher/updater but the actual game files wouldn't come down. I'll try again after work today, but all the info I see said Feb 24th.

Are you guys snagging the client off steam or off Trion?

You can get it from either source. Just need to be sure to have your code entered with your account.

Well, hell. I'll give this a shot. How do I get into the early start? Pre order the CE?

Yeah, a pre-order gets you in.

Though I'm not sure if you can get in with just the standard edition, or if you need the CE. Their website doesn't specify.

EDIT: The D2D site says the standard edition does give you access to the head start.

You can pre order standard or CE (if I'm wrong, please correct me). And 2H weapons look damn cool, even at early levels.

Applied on the guild forum, the way that forum software works is eluding me at the moment so my post sucks formatting-wise.

Sigh. The shit I do for MMOs and playing with Gaf folk. May as well preorder. I know nothing (NOTHING) about this game, so I'll go in sight unseen.

In a way, I don't want to. Its been a long, long time I've gone in completely cold on a game. Might have more fun this way.

Great avatar btw.

Thanks! Think of the game as a cross between Warhammer and WoW. It may fall a little more on the WoW side of things but more in tune with UI features and the likes. The "talent tree" part of the game is very customizable. Eventually, you'll be able to create 4 specs of your choosing (after questing for them which is easy). And when you encounter your first rift in game, shit gets real.

With all the flexibility in the talent trees does this mean the game is going to be imbalanced as fuck?

With so many souls the game will be impossible to fully balance. I hope they don't let too many souls run rampant though.

The official forums classes area has been rife with large amounts of whining throughout the beta and it's probably going to continue.
