I watched/listened to some of the council session so far. Some highlights:

When asked whether he has bought illegal drugs, Ford pausing then answering that yes, he has bought illegal drugs.

When asked directly whether he has ever assaulted a member of his staff, Ford stalling awkwardly, and muttering, before finally saying that no, he has not assaulted any of his staff.

When asked whether there is anything else that will come out about Ford's behaviour that will be shocking to the public, Ford again stalling before stating something like "I don't know who has recorded me" and then again apologizing for his mistakes.

Giorgio Mammoliti, one of Ford's biggest supporters, speaking in the most respectful manner ever shown by him, asking Ford whether he believes he has addiction problems with respect to alcohol or drugs, and Ford even being defensive shouting replies back at him too.

Has Ford ackowledged, disassociated himself from, or apologized for, the homophobic and racist comments he reportedly made while in "a drunken stupor" and high on crack?

Aside from his all-encompassing "I've made mistakes and I'm sincerely, deeply sorry" apology, no.

The best line of the morning was Ford talking about the incident that took place at a hockey game a while back. Ford got drunk and uttered death threats to a couple, lied about it when asked, and then fessed up when the proof came out.

"I said it would never happen again and it never happened again... at the Air Canada Centre."

The audience laughed at him. They had a good, long laugh.

None of those things are shocking, unfortunately.

I wonder if they're illegal enough to get him arrested instead of getting away with a slap on the wrist?

I don't think simply embarrassing him will get him out of office anymore. The dude clearly isn't going to step down just because of humiliating pictures and videos. Only something outright illegal will allow the police to drag him out of office kicking and screaming.

MacKinnon said that according to the documents, a waiter at the Bier Markt told investigators that he believed Ford had snorted cocaine in a private room that night.

The waiter said he saw Ford and a woman with their heads down, trying to hide what they were doing, and then heard “two sniffs,” according to the documents. He was told by a Ford staffer not to tell anyone what he had seen - which he said confirmed for him that he had seen the mayor do coke.

They won't because they would have arrested him already for it.

Watching this live on CP24 - this is such a circus. I'm deeply disappointed that our government can function in such a manner. What the fuck...

So Mammo just put forth a suggestion that all councillors get randomly tested for drugs.

And Ford was all "YES! YES! Pass that motion!"

It would be nice to know what the maximum possible sanction administered/recommended by the Integrity Commissioner would be. I suspect the Commissioner has no authority to suspend or expel a Mayor or member of council. So referring anything to the Commissioner is pointless. It just means they have to waste more time talking about this, although that might be inevitable anyway.

This is all pure comedy gold, but the entire debacle has become so outlandish you really have to question how our government can even function at this level. There is no logic or reason in anything anymore.. it''s purely bias and pride getting in the way of anything good and productive.

If anything, it's opened my eyes to municipal politics, which I've paid very little attention to over the past decade.

I'd like to believe that this spectacle would convince citizens here to actually vote in municipal elections.

Just to let people know that the two motions they're debating over are both basically toothless in doing anything.

Yeah but the Minnan-Wong one amended by Carrol is as strong as council possibly can be while the Perks one is just refusing to take any sort of stand at all and refer it to somebody else which City council does over and over.

Well, DMW's motion just kinda ignores it, but at least the Perks motion does the following (in the end they're both kind of toothless):

http://www.thestar.com/opinion/edit...d_should_inspire_better_law_editorial.bb.html

"The city’s integrity commissioner oversees compliance with the code by investigating complaints and issuing reports on violations to city council. Councillors can then impose one of two punishments: a reprimand, or a suspension of pay for up to 90 days. That’s not enough."

Eh, either way they're both absolutely useless. Goddamn province sitting by doing jack shit. Definitly not voting liberal next election.
