Hey it's TMZ... people might actually pay attention to this.

Judge: So this guy who owns Staples, the largest office supply chain in America, he's completely loaded, right?

Romney: Oh, not at all.

Judge: I stand corrected, judgment for the defendant!

Wouldn't the court just double check to see how much this guy is worth instead of just going on testimony?

Sorry folks, but if he had lied in court, he'd be facing charges right now.

That he is a poor excuse of a human? yes. That he was asked for his opinion about a stock and forecasts to help his friend? yes. That he can say, "welp it was just my opinion at the time"? yeah.

This is grasping. We already know he's a money-hungry douche.

To be fair, when did the divorce happen? And what was Staple's stock price then?

generally when someone thinks a stock is overvalued.. they sell said stock.

is everyone really this gullible?

good job highlighting TMZ's terrible summary instead of the actual quote.

I'm more interested in why the staples guy fought for custody then sent his child away.

the whole world would be better off without partisan hair trigger jackasses who put cause before reason.

Yea but they can't project if the stock is going to go up or tank.

If I understand this correctly Staples was a private company at the time, so there's no public stock price data. In order to estimate the value you'd have to audit the books or ask the board for their valuation. This suit presumes that Romney (a member of the board) specifically lied under oath in order to reduce the value of Staples and thus what the divorcee was entitled to. "Weeks later" (no idea how many) the company was bought by Goldman Sachs at a much higher value that what Romney quoted under oath.

Whole lotta nothing. He gave a deposition for his buddy in which he said he didn't place much worth in the company's forecasts. It's an opinion, it's not a lie. Also, keep in mind that Mitt Romney was not asked to VALUE the company for the purposes of the divorce proceedings - the court would have had someone outside the case do that. The rest of that article was about Tom Stenberg being a dick to his ex-wife while being employed by Mitt Romney. Don't see how that's any of Romney's fault or even his business.

So Goldman Sachs bought up a private company after this divorce?

That's not lying. Romney could value it at 0 and it still wouldn't be lying under oath.

So that Bill Maher video about Romney was accurate?

I saw that live and was silent for a couple of minute just in awe.

The statute of limitations for perjury has long since run, and perjury is rarely prosecuted considering it is so tough to prove.

But this goes to character and it could have some effect on perception of Romney. If the story checks out, it shows Romney trying to cheat the system. That will matter to some people who are leaning toward Romney but are still skeptical of him.

How exactly did Romney lie or collect a fortune, or is your thread title just another one of the many misleading anti-Romney titles that have been flooding OT?

Pro tip: don't look for political news on TMZ.

Eh, most people not voting for him already know he is a piece of shit. People voting for him aren't gonna care or won't believe it.

Still, what a couple of scumbags.

I think at the very least Romney aiding a guy trying to dick over his wife probably won't play well with the female voters. I hope Allred gets the lady dem checks.

Doesn't matter if it was lying or if there's any merit to it. Allred just wants the opportunity to be able to hold a press conference where a woman accuses Romney of something. It's about theatrics.

Not sure what the quality of this site is http://minx.cc/?post=334186

but the author makes it seem that the ex wife has been trying to get money from the husband for 25 years since the divorce. and is just trying to use romney to pressure him more

Depends on whether Romney knew Goldman was valuing Staples at whatever it was sold for. If the two events are as close in time as the article implies, that is evidence that Romney knew Staples was in fact quite valuable. It's not like Goldman just up and buys companies without doing due diligence.

Yeah, these articles are just as hilarious as the birther ones are. Would you expect someone who took a look at a stock and thought it had little value to continue to hold onto it and potentially lose everything if the business folds?

I can't wait for the election to be over so these drama-queen threads from both sides will stop.

These strategically timed "gotchas" are so annoying and insult my intelligence.

I know no one is actually going to read the link I posted, but it says the wife won over 5 million in the divorce but has spent millions of dollars fighting the settlement.
