jeeze people, they were sleeping.

Their bodies run at a higher temperature/rate than ours do. Didnt you notice how quickly the female who was captured - and heavily sedated - was still breathing?

Those guys were just chillin out, takin a nap. It WAS daytime, after all.
They must sleep on their feet due to their hyper active metabolisms, they don't need to lie down to rest.

:lol

In all seriousness though, I never thought about it that way.

Hmm. I'm still terrified. Thx for the explanation though.

I loved this movie up until
Sam died
.

I wonder if the lions were immune as well. It would have been awesome to see a lion get infected and slowly transform.

Would the Dark Seekers take on a lion? They seem to have some resemblance of intelligence. I doubt they'd even send their dogs after a lion.

i think it was enjoyable, but lacked some things that made it a "watch it once, but don't bother buying the dvd" kinda thing...

1. the ending was a let down. The movie was great up until that happened. As soon as it did, i was thinking "wait a second....this is Children of Men meets WaterWorld."

2. they didn't expand on a couple of things i would have liked to have known, like who the fuck the woman was, where the kid came from, how they survived? the flashbacks really didn't go anywhere, except for understanding how he came into keeping the dog.

3. the zombie vampire hybrid guys were a little over the top. they were pretty creepy, but it wasn't that believable to see all these people all of a sudden jumping around like crazy only after 3 years or at least some sort of extra expansion on how the virus actually affects humans just for the believability factor.

4. no investigation into how he was trapped was a big misstep in my opinion. He should have had more investigation as to why they were acting like that

i'd say 8.5/10

as a side note, i would love to have a free-roaming game that had the movie's theme.

Fuck that. I wouldn't go into buildings, period. It would be a daytime driving sim with night time sleeping and hiding minigame.

Some?
Big dude was after the doc the whole time because he took his girl. Don't steal another man's ho. I swear the big guy was Mike Vick. Had his dogs fight and everything.

its not my fault if you're scared of zombie vampire hybrids. i wanna shoot them fuckers and horde all the spaghetti sauce i can!!!

They were breathing rapidly through their noses. The collective sound was disturbing but not extraordinary.

As for the lions, I'd guess one of two things was true;

1. The dogs/Dark Seekers were instinctively intimidated by the lions.

2. The lions learned to leave the city once it became night.

in the book, the vampires view Nevell as the monster since he is a day walker that goes into their homes at night and kills them. so, he is a legend like we view vampires or other monsters as a legend.
Thats only the idea though, not the ending. What is the original actual ending.

I wanted more
flashback
sequences. Those were some of the more captivating scenes for me.

I'd love to hear the commentary track on the dvd though about the
Neville chasing after Sam in the dark building sequence. Would be interesting if Will Smith actually improvised that sequence - "Okay Will, in this scene you wander around in that dark room looking for your dog, oh yeah we're not going to tell you what's actually in the dark room besides the dog."
, that was just really well done.

That bothered me as well. Just a few days before (I think) he was saying how they were devoid of any human characteristics. My guess is that they did film something that covered the subject but it was edited out.

Also, a television show would have been awesome. Like the next Lost or something.

It was okay. The ending kinda sucked, but the rest was great. Worth watching.

If:

-You're a racist
-You're a film elitist who can't enjoy any film that the general public likes
-75% of your posts on GAF are complaining about shit
-You can't enjoy movies based off of books(everyone knows books are always better, big deal)
-You're one of those who think their opinion is truth, and carries much weight on the internet
-You lready decided it's gonna suck, simply because Will Smith is in it

Than I cannot reccommend this film. If you do not find yourself in any of those categories(which excludes 75% of GAF), than you will probably enjoy the film sans the ending.

I think you could infer that
since they set up an elaborate trap, the monster was holding the dogs like an owner would, and they followed him home, he was simply wrong. It's not like he had a shitload of data to back the claim up that they were devoid of human characteristics.

so why was he on the cover of Time? And why were there so many damn zombies on the island?

being immune to the virus, and being a scientist that was using his own blood to try and figure out a cure?

Yeah I was confused too until I saw how insane the girls metabolism must be to be unconscious but still amped up.

You know, as smart and prepared as Robert Neville is,
I really wonder why he never prepared a safe house just in case he found himself out at night. Could've stayed there for awhile its dark out and then go back home during the day so he wouldn't be followed home

Even if he did he was likely too out of it to remember to give directions to the safe house and probably just wanted to be where things are "normal" since he didn't really know wtf was going on. Also they would have followed him to the safe house and just killed him there.

One more thing; they pretty much explained absolutely nothing about the capabilities of the Dark Seekers aside from limited intelligence. These things were supposed to be mutations of humans; how in the fuck were they bashing their bodies/heads into things and showing no signs of damage? If you run into a truck at full speed, you're going to break your shoulder at the very least.

Did you miss the fact that they were pretty much killing themselves when they rammed the truck?

the society of "alive" vampires breaks into Neville's house, takes him to their lair, and executes him. the girl in the book (Ruth) gives him an envelope of painkillers that he takes before the execution.

I agree with those feeling that this is a good entertaining movie that could have been a great film. The idea that Smith's character is so lonely that he is starting to lose his mind didn't really play for me because there was little of it outside of the mannequin and Shrek scenes. I keep thinking that the woman and child are imaginary since they appeared so conveniently and seem to represent everything Neville has lost i.e. faith and family. The concept of Neville being a legend in the novel is definitely more interesting than the cure, although I would have preferred an ending somewhere in between the bleakness of the novel and the unearned optimism of the movie. It is frustrating to think that how much this film could have done with another ten or twenty minutes.

I was thinking about a game based on this movie. I'mma make a thread about it.

Yeah it's crazy that people complain about 2 and one half hour movies, but now we realize that maybe it's the best thing for movies like this.

I really enjoyed it. I loved the connection with his dog and I really felt attached to the dog in that way. I thought Will did a great job with his performance... the part was harder than it looks considering he really had no other human to relay back and forth lines with, he had to pretend with the dog and other stuff. Sure some stuff at the very end was a little hard to explain but overall I liked the ending. Totally recommend it.

This is one of the best posts I've ever seen on an Internet forum. You fucking nailed it, bro.

Yep. The first 2/3 was the best part, then it started to get... not good.

Smith carried the entire movie on his chiseled perfectly shaped shoulders.

-Just because Will Smith is Black, lol whatever. A bad actor is a bad actor no matter what ethnicity he is.
-We like good movies whether it's a blockbuster or indie, just not shitty ones.
-Yes because there's too much of it these days and it's sad people eat it up.
-It doesn't have be 100% accurate just as long it's well written and portrayed on film.
-I don't care what the average joe who hasn't studied or have an active interest in film think. All they want to see is shit blow up.
-Will Smith hasn't been in anything good since Fresh Prince.

GAF called Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman average actors.

While I don't necessarily agree with Gantz's opinions, c'mon guys. Someone can criticize an actor, even if he is black. Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman have both made some horrible movies and have turned in horrible performances. ZOMG...I zeh racist now?

Yeah and Will Smith is really a bad actor? Please!

one thing i guess i expected/wanted was to see how they went from the evacuation scene to the 3 years later scene.

robert hints at "nothing went as it was supposed to"...implying that they had some plans and they all failed.

where did all the bodies go?

Correction, every single actor in existence has been in terrible movies and given less then stellar acting performances. Doesn't change the fact that they are two of the best in the business. Will Smith, while not the best in the business, can act and has proven so on several occasions.

See...that's what I'm talking about. I'm automatically labeled a racist because I offered a different opinion. I didn't say Smith was a bad actor, just saying that these actors do turn in bad roles from time to time. I like Will Smith and loved I Am Legend...just saying, just because he's black doesn't mean he can't be criticized, same with others.

I wouldn't say Denzel Washington nor Morgan Freeman are the best in the business. There are a lot of other actors out there right now that deserve that honor more than those two.

I humbly disagree, in regards to Morgan Freeman.

The guy has the best narrating voice since Richard Burton and is one of the best actors of this generation. But, I would say Tom Hanks is a much better actor. I'd even go as far to say Johnny Depp is a better actor.

I meant they are some of the best in the business, they can stand toe to toe with any actor in Hollywood. I don't think it's quite possible to label a 'best actor' because it's obviously going to be different from person to person. The best we can do is agree on a handful of actors that deserve that honor, and I believe both Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman are more then qualified for that honor.

I never called you a racist.

Just got back from seeing it and thought it was quite excellent. I've never read the novella, so I didn't have any preconceived notion of how things should have transpired on screen, but I definitely have the urge to pick it up now to see the differences.

Will Smith was outstanding when the script didn't call for conversation with mannequins. I just didn't buy that he had delved that far into insanity due to having no human contact in a long period of time. His relationship with Sam was enough to paint the picture of his loneliness.

I'll probably end up buying it when it hits DVD. I hope there is an alternate ending.
