[S-Conf] Assassins Creed III: Liberation for Vita [Screenshots]

I want this to be good SO BAD, but I know better. It's a Western developed portable game tie-in to main franchise. It's got doom and gloom written all over it.

PROVE ME WRONG, UBI.

kind of a weird thing to say. I wonder where you think these games are made.

Man I was watching AC3 demonstration at E3 and there was some really bad pop in going on and some really bad glitches, I hope they can get it all polished up in the next few months...

Holy crap the game comes out soon.

Really this game main problem right now, asking $100 for AssCreed fans ($60 for AC3/$40 for AC3:L) in the same freaking day is a crazy business, and even if gamers ignore all other games in October/November, playing AC3 and AC3:L back to back will not be good, hell people feeling tired with AC yearly releases and that a full year between each game.

This should get release 4 or 6 months after AC3 and not in the same day.

I think I'm gonna have to start saving up now. A game with a main character this cool in my home town with a white Vita bundled with it... I don't think I can say no anymore.

All the gameplay sounds awesome, and I've mostly ignored this franchise since I disliked 1 so much.

I doubt it. Every AC game that's been released on consoles/PC has had pop in. -_-

I hope this will be the time where that shit is gone, but I still doubt it.

people don't have to buy both games day 1, but whenever they finish with one version and still wanting their AC3 fix, they can immediately buy the other version. rather than wait a few months where people may already forgot about the game because I doubt the vita games alone warrant AC3 console level advertisement and media blitz

2 things, that may ease this and actually make releasing on the same day a great idea.

  1. For those that don't own the Vita yet will have the opppurtunity to buy a Vita and get AC3 Liberation for free.
  2. Ubisoft has not announced plans for their Collectors Edition. So it is entirely possible we could see the Vita game packed in with the PS3 collectors edition. At the very least I would expect partnerships with retailers for buying both for $80. However, a Collector's Edition may have more impact, especially if priced right.

Another thing is Marketing. Marketing is expensive, and judging by the press conference Sony has partnered with Ubisoft to make them the lead platform for marketing AC3. By having both games release on the same date and with the possibility Sony would be the focus in ads it makes it to where both games can be advertised simultaneously in ad, especially if their is a bundle or Collectors Edition. Imagine a 30 second ad, that also showed 5-10 seconds of Vita gameplay, and mentioned at the end how you could get both for one price.

That a really good idea and might help, but it's limited to people who have PS3,and the thing is AC fans are not only on PS3, majority of them are on 360 and many are on PC, and there are Vita owners who don't have PS3s but have other system.

As for Marketing part, that also will limited it to people with PS3, and even if they do a combo ads,AC3:L will get most likely get shadowed by the monster that is AC3, and some people might confused and think it's a DLC ( "Dude look a female skin for the American Altair") .

I still think it need its own month of release, far away from AC3, Ubi need to market it for all AC current fans on all platforms and not Sony ones only, well that if they want AC3:L to sell.

Here's some Avelline weapon trailer thing.

SCEE also 'uploaded a full trailer (3:02 in length), but have it on private:

So is this open world like consoles or zoned/level based like the PSP version was?

Open world. It will likely play pretty similar to AC3 from a game play standpoint. The engine is supposed to be heavily passed on/a port of the PS3 engine and even uses animations from AC3. Big differences is a real jump button, no auto-block, and optional touch screen controls.

You had me at Open world.

PROVE ME WRONG, UBI.

1. Not western developed.

2. The main dev team seem to be rather involved in this project.

3. That involvement extends so far as to even be sharing animations between AC3 and AC3:L.

4. Ubi Bulgaria has never been asked to make a real "gamer" game and they'll clearly be getting a lot of help from Ubi Montreal.

AC: Bloodlines was made by a subcontractor with some oversight from Ubi Montreal, it wasn't a horrible game despite obviously being massively limited by the hardware. Griptonite's track record is if anything less inspiring than Ubi Bulgaria's and AC:B was one of 4 games they turned out in '09. Ubi Bulgaria hasn't put out a release since November 2008, so not only is the talent pool likely rather different, this is the only project they've been focused on for who knows how long. AC3 itself has been in development since January 2010.

There are a lot of good early signs here. Maybe it bombs, but this isn't the same as your average handheld spin off. There is some real potential for a quality game here.

Weird, those screenshots look gorgeous, while the gameplay/debut trailer looked like it was full of jaggies. Was that just my feed being fuzzy? Anyone have clarification on it? I'm super excited for this but it looked so rough in that feed, I'm wondering if it looks as good as those screens, or if they're bullshots.

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars isn't a "gamer game"? If anything, I think Ubisoft Sofia might be the one Ubisoft studio that actually gets handheld gaming.

And yeah, Bulgaria is a western country.

How is a European developer not western? lol

I suppose Bulgaria is not considered a western country per se...it is in eastern Europe. Mind you the "west" has become so ambiguous in recent years its difficult to tell...it could probably be classified as those countries on the north atlantic seaboard and central Europe + whoever aligns with US policy. It is a "westernized" country but it has more slavic and eastern influences as well

Day and date with AC3 seems like a really bad call here.

Yeah, it's like if Sony released Uncharted 3 and Golden Abyss on the same day. Some PS3/Vita owners may go for both on day 1 but I bet most would just settle with 3 for a while.

Hadn't seen Shadow Wars come up in any of their listings before. Speaks well towards their capabilities though if you ask me. Also better indicates what their timetable for AC3:L has been, since I'd imagine it's what they've been working on since finishing Shadow Wars a little over a year ago. So about 1.5 years, a solid development period.

As for Bulgaria, that depends on what you consider the dividing line. I've always assumed the west/east divide was the geo-political boundary established post-WWII, in which Bulgaria is securely on the "east" side. Basically western hemisphere plus those who originally colonized it = west, eastern hemisphere minus those same countries = east.

Now if it's meant in the context of "Asia v. everything else" then sure. But that seems REALLY arbitrary. Where do you draw the line in Russia for east v. west? What middle east nations count?

And using stupid old Cold War dividing lines isn't arbitrary? If you really think Metro 2033 is an eastern game alongside Final Fantasy then uh, I'm not sure what to say to you.

The screens are bullshots, that's super-obvious. Haven't seen a good feed of the gameplay/trailer yet, so it might just be the video feed. I think it will look really good, just don't expect anything like the IQ you see in the screens.

People should just read what the guy originally posted. He used the term for differentiation between Japanese and "western" development teams since the latter usually don't put a lot of effort in their portable games.
