Your 1st gen PS4s won't stop working if this hypothetical upgraded PS4 is released, guys.
A higher spec PS4 is not happening. they might optimize it or free more ram for developers but a more powerful hardware just nay

A high performance PS4 does not mean your current PS4 stops working, it just means any game created for standard PS4 will run better on high performance PS4.
Knowing that I have the best performance and graphics is the coolest thing about owning a console. I have a PC but there are people with better graphics than me. No one has a better PS4 than me though. And no one can play a better looking Uncharted 4 than me.Not-high performance is one of the coolest things of owning a console?
Oh God, why mention this now when I have my mind set on getting a PS4 on Black Friday. Will be furious if this comes out in the next 2 years.
I wonder if standard PS4s would be upgradeable.
This. PS4+ exclusive games like Xenoblade on n3DS would be awful. And if the framerate for a given game is bad, people will be like, "just buy the PS4+".Nintendo set a precedent with the n3DS, but I don't think this would be a good move. Either the current PS4 remains the target platform and holds back the PS4+, or the PS4+ becomes the new target platform and vanilla PS4 gets left to rot. It's a half-measure, and I don't like it.

Sony won't give a shit.
And MS will be shooting themselves in the foot by releasing anything enhanced.
Enhanced PS4 probably means Slim PS4 with better compatibility with SSD/new Blu Rays/4k Resolution. You guys are overreacting as usual.
Hopefully they call it Playstation 5 and it comes out 3-4 years from now.
If MS released something like this in 2017 it would be DOA. The XBO's problem was not really the power gap; it was that MS lied about it and tried to push draconian DRM alongside a peripheral most early buyers were not interested in. They are just gaining back some lost ground with consumers in terms of faith in the product and brand, but I don't expect most of it to be repaired until late 2016 at the earliest. And then, just as XBO is doing well, they'll fragment the userbase again?Sony knows all too well what a disadvantage it is to give MS a release advantage. They are not going to do that again.
MS is handily losing this gen so there is little to lose. A new Xbox would be fully backward compatible and the XB1 would still be offered as a low cost alternative. All games would run on on both but the upgraded console would offer it up at 1080p 60FPS. It'd also support the Oculus Rift and be able to play VR games that the XB1 simply can't handle,
With universal apps I am starting to see a strategy from MS to position such an upgraded console as a PC alternative. A cheap extender box could be connected to a monitor in an home office to allow streaming apps to a more traditional setting with a keyboard and mouse.
PS3 was bleeding edge, they had to take 7 years to recoup on that monster. PS4 was built to last 5 years max. We're already nearing mid-cycle for this gen.2019 or 2020 seems perfect for release, 7 years on the market is good enough.
Ps3 was 7 years so seems right.
2006 - 2013
2013 - 2020
It clearly means there is gonna be a PS4 with an Ultra HD Disc Drive duh..."High Performance"On 4K Blu-ray/Ultra HD Blu-ray:
-"Current PS4 doesn't support Ultra HD Blu-ray."
-"Support is still under consideration."
On PS4 Performance Boost:
-"Can't talk about the specific content."
-"Thinks performance boost might requires a lot of timing when using something better than x86 architecture."
-"So in other words, it is possible."
-"For example, there are ideas such as releasing a standard PS4 and a high performance PS4."

They will if Nintendo will magically have real 3rd party support and those games start eating into their sales, otherwise there'd be no point.Anyone think that IF Nintendo comes out with a more powerful system than PS4/X1 that Sony/MS responds quickly?

Jeff Rigby was wrong?

Christ This.
I think the current ps4 BARELY has the muscle to do what they want for Morpheus. It will work but a system with better specs will run it better. So, they release Morpheus and it does work but then they release the upgraded ps4 and it runs even better. People will buy it. It's just like definitive editions of games. People owned a ps3 and bought a game. Sony releases a better system (ps4) and the same game comes out but is "better".
Granted, there was a lot more time between the ps3 release and the PS4 but the point remains. VR is in for the long haul. In a few years people will be looking to upgrade, anyway.
Don't worry, Sony isn't stupid enough to call it that. Also I'm not buying a "New PS4".
What would that have to do with x86?
