Did you not like Returnal?
Nope. Cant get into it. I think Sifu is much better so far. I like that you can lock in every move permanently and lock in your age at the end of a stage if you master it. Its still not really making the game better by being a roguelike but I'm enjoying it more than Returnal. Returnal has better graphics though for sure. I wanted to like it

Interesting, ok. I loved Returnal but it took a bit of time. Almost quit it three times, and was incredibly glad when I stuck it out. I've decided to get this one as well.

If you like martial arts movies you'll love it.

I havent given up on Returnal forever but it has put me down multiple times. I dont think the parasite system is very good either. I love the basic gameplay, graphics and setting. But I think a sequel would be 100x better by abandoning almost every part of their game design as far as progression. Lots of others love Returnal though so I'm sure they'll do whatever they want to do.

Don't want to turn this into a Returnal thread, but I never touched the parasites. Trade offs never seemed worth it. :) What made it work for me was focusing on dodging over attacking. Always be avoiding fire, fight back when you can. It's such a different mentality than almost every other game out there (though I admittedly don't play a lot of bullet hell games) that it can seem unfair without adopting that mentality. In most games you can shoot/overpower your way through just about anything. It's all about defense in Returnal IMO.

On topic, just purchased the Sifu digital deluxe edition. Will try it soon!

I feel like even after beating a Boss, if I died too many times just to achieve that, I'm better off just restarting the whole damn thing.

Better to get permanent unlocks to your skills a majority of the time before completing the stage.

The skill up review made the perm unlocks sound almost useless.

Holy shit this game!! Just saw the trailer, never paid too much attention to it until today…..

Will get it on PS4!!

edit: wait so physical version is released in May, will wait for that, I don’t buy digital for console game

I keep not wanting to progress to the next level/stage having lost too much age. So, I've been repeating level 2 for quite some time trying to keep my age down. I began level 2 at 23, trying to complete it no higher than age 25 or 27. Really really hard for me to achieve.

Anyone who's played - how difficult do you think getting the platinum trophy would be?
difficult AF. There is a trophy where you have to beat it at 25 or less. What?

I’ve managed to complete the first level at the age of 23, so I’m definitely getting the hang of it - I’m really weaving in and out of attacks now and rarely use the parry. It’s only really the boss that is making me age, but I reckon with a bit more practice I could complete the first level without dying.

Ah I see. I am just wondering then if there's any skill in particular that deals more than average damage.

I don't know. Just having to rebuild them again would be a pain in the ass.

that's cause his right and they are useless. I did no death run on 1st level and almost got 2nd without using any of them. If you suck at dodging/parry no skills will help you anyways.

The game looks amazing and right up my alley but I think the price is a bit steep.

I understand there is replayability here but there isn't much content to the game. I feel like they have purposely held back half the game behind a DLC paywall.. Great game or not, I don't like their intentions, especially at this price. At least at this price have a day 1 physical release, not 3 months later. It's a pass for me until it goes on sale.

Really enjoying the game overall. Third mission is absolutely awesome artistically but I have no idea how to approach the boss. Just got absolutely clapped.

Only thing I really dislike about this game is the skill unlock system. Just seems like you have to grind for a long time to get permanent unlocks, but how does that make the game better? Just introduce a mechanic with some enemies that teach you how to use it and let me keep it. I don’t think this progression makes the game any more fun and obscures what the challenge/difficulty of levels really should be.

Pretty damn impressive so far. It feels like a fighting game disguised as a beat em up brawler paying homage to martial arts movies with what feels like a modern take.

Surprisingly a more technical experience than anticipated - there's layers to the fighting engine here. I started playing mostly using the dodge/parry/block mechanic, but once I feel like I can read incoming moves better I'm starting to throw out more sweeps and other more power oriented strikes before the hits come in. Nailing that palm strike on someone delivering a kick is just super satisfying on so many levels.

If Final Fight gave birth to Street Fighter - this feels like Street Fighter giving birth to Final Fight.

It's a hard game, but they really nailed the "reward" aspect here - everything here feels great when you nail it. Because of that rewarding feeling element I haven't once felt like rage quitting in frustration.

Just played through the intro. Seems fun so far, but I can see how it could get tough/complex. But I like it.

It also kind of fits the mold I thought it might ... I always thought it looked like a Virtua Fighter action game, and with the move set so far, I think that's how it comes across to me. A lot of atmosphere, I like the stylized rendering. My only complaint is that the English voice acting is corny. Would have GREATLY preferred Chinese audio with English subtitles for a more authentic feel. The voices sound like "Billy Jim Bob" to me. But not a deal breaker.

Chinese audio would have been sick.

That sounds a lot worse than it is because you only need to perfect one level at a time since it locks in your age when you're done. Doing a single level perfectly isn't exactly simple so its still hard as fuck, but it isn't like you have to do all 5 levels in one go without fucking up.

I got level 1 down to 23. Making it to the boss on level 2.

Struggling with a few of the new enemy types, especially the midboss guy.

You can really mash things out at the start, maybe I need to play more, the moves that require analog stick movements feel clunky to pull off when you want them in a fight.

Damn lol. If you do the sweep kick when they're on the ground it registers it as a soccer kick. You do have a 2nd attack when they're downed.

Its similar to a Fighting Game. It feels odd at first, but becomes second nature the more you practice. Trying to pull off numerous quarter circles and Z moves in something like Street Fighter just feels wrong at first. Same thing here.

stage 3 boss is kicking my ass... i got a good run through 1 and 2 and stage 3 you can get to the boss right away, so im at her with most of my years but she still kills me :messenger_loudly_crying: I need to look up the proper strategy with this one.

ok saw a video of someone doing it..yeah I was trying to be all up in her face and that shit doesnt work you have to stay out of the way of her swings and dodge a lot on the second part..I should be able to beat her now :messenger_beaming:

Did a few runs. Cleared level 1 at 31. Not great, but the boss is going down cleanly, just running into one or two spots getting overwhelmed by groups of weapon enemies. Getting better though. Permanently unlocked several skills.

Lots of fun so far.

In Returnal I skip a lot of parasites because sometimes the bad nearly outweighs the good. 9/10 runs I can beat the game from start to finish just give me the Electroplyon Driver and I'm good to go

I used to die over and over

I'm in the museum at 23 after half a day of failing through the club. I don't know how some of you managed to beat the game already it's insanely hard. Sean boss last phase low sweep has zero tells, I still can't figure out which direction to wiggle the left stick to dodge effectively, does it even matter outside up / down for those attacks?

Overall it's INCREDIBLE, easy 9/10 for me if it wasn't for some camera issues and I still don't know how to AIM focus effect in crowds so I hit the right enemy with it. Most abilities are well, for the show I guess no idea how to incorporate them effectively... Other than that - wow. I thought it's gonna be good but not this good.

Why pineal gland is known as third eye?

The name “third eye” comes from the pineal gland's primary function of 'letting in light and darkness', just as our two eyes do. This gland is the melatonin-secreting neuroendocrine organ containing light-sensitive cells that control the circadian rhythm

This is my one major gripe as well. It seems contextual as well as being hard coded. Like sometimes I expect to duck, and instead he lifts his leg up to avoid a sweep. Frustrating.

I'm still on the fence about this. That 40 euro price tag is not doing the game any favors.

Is the combat Sekiro-style rhythm memory based inputs? Or is it a more punishing Arkham or Sleeping Dogs-style freeflow?

The hate this is getting on Era for all the wrong reasons made me buy the game. Will come back latter with impressions. Thanks, Era.
