Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Not a single person in to Zelda is going to tolerate a negative review so i have to ask (AGAIN)

why on earth do any of you give a FLYING FUCK!?

you've already decided - some of you before playing the fucking game - so why put any weight behind ANY of the reviews?!

just man the fuck up and admit you're looking for verification of your opinions, grow up, learn to not give a shit, and move on.

It's a REVIEWS thread where people discuss REVIEWS.

Gamespot guy didn't like it. That's fine, people. Most of the other reviewers did. I'm sure most of us here will also. Not every game appeals to every person, and some people are willing to overlook some issues others aren't (or even, some people consider some things problems that other people don't).

I am kind of interested to see how the metacritic score fares after the next day or too, though.

Well, do you want us to give a review credit that:

1. Has had a review copy probably for a long time, but delays the review because he hadn't finished the game?
2. Has factual error
3. Gives the lowest score game received
4. Gives this score after all major reviews are out.
5. Also has spoilers (don't know what this one has got to do with this lol, but reviews aren't supposed to have spoilers specially when the game isn't out yet)

Should he have instead written and presented his review without completing the game?

I guess, maybe people here don't want to be made an example of.

Who the fuck cares, maybe they didn't like it. It's someone's opinion, man, it shouldn't make you angry.

And giving a lower score does not mean they're trolling for hits. Actually I guess people here maybe do want to be made an example of?
Just think of it like this.

They have had time to play Skyrim to give out a review exactly as the embargo end, but didn't have time to finish Zelda, and decide to put the lowest score after everyone? You tell me if they weren't after hits...

I am not angry at the review, I won't read it at least until I finish the game, since it seems to have spoilers; but this is a very shitty move nonetheless. I wouldn't care this much if they gave this same exact score, but not now that every other review is out.

There's less anger here and more a directed attempt to discredit his review.
And your attempt to discredit people who you think attempt to discredit the review is what? Rational discussion distanced from the meltdowns? If people don't care about a review for whatever reason they have a right to state it and it doesn't imply it's all about Zelda love. Maybe they still have no reason to believe things changed since the Gerstmann debacle, or whatever else made them stop caring about this particular outlet. Unless you can point to the same people praising the same outlet when they rated a game they liked better. I didn't see you making a list of people attempting to discredit the positive reviews as meltdowns on the other end of the scale either. I mean, your quotes even include someone who said nothing of the review and just said he doesn't visit the website, but did this time and hates the design or whatever. Lol? I never visit GS (or any of the major outlets) either, how am I trying to discredit the review by mentioning this? To me, you seem more invested in this than most of those guys.

The inaccuracy of the motion controller has been mentioned in many reviews.

Not that motion controls suck, but when you are trying to do one thing, something else happens.

eh, I don't really.

Don't harp on people for discussing it though in a review thread. People are entitled to care about whatever the hell they want.

Strong emotional feelings and personal convictions aside, does anyone think Gamespot gave the score they did to increase publicity? I mean, they know what 8.8 did for buzz so who knows
No.

As I said the review is weird given the structure of it but Gamespot is big enough that I can't imagine that they need a Zelda low review to drive hits, even less so when we take into account how many games that are even bigger then Zelda this fall.

Hey, GS reviewer here. Two quick things while I walk home. 1 - I love Zelda games (which is why I reviewed this) and did enjoy SS despite its flaws. 2 - Sorry for any spoilers. I tried not to give anything major away but I do have to point out specific things if I'm going to properly critique.

Thanks for not making fun of my weight!

Even with many bright spots, Skyward Sword still feels like a nostalgic retread. Those yearning for something new will be disappointed, but anyone thirsty for another exciting adventure will find plenty to enjoy here.
I'm convinced that people like this just flat-out don't care for the series. And there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

But if you change the series to the extent that these reviewers seem to want, it's no longer Zelda. And who the hell wants that to happen?

As I said, they had enough time to play Skyrim.

Are you telling me it takes longer to play Zelda that it takes to play Skyrim for giving it a proper review?

They are not some small publication with 3 reviewers that review everything. If all the other publications could put out their reviews much before them, they could do so as well.

disagreed. it's a SQUABBLE FEST for the TERMINALLY INSECURE.

Don't harp on people for discussing it though in a review thread.

not just in this thread but in others but i've yet to see any "discussion" in any review threads recently. It's mud slinging and stupidity from -both sides-.

It's pointless - people have decided for big name games before they've played the game. Zelda, Uncharted, Skyrim... it's pointless.

You would rather they have rushed out the SS review with a higher score?

While there are definetly some obnoxious posts in there. I don't see anything wrong in some of them disagreeing with the reviewer.

BTW, does this game use IR or not? I remember everyone trying out the demo said it didn't use IR and (I didn't read the review due to spoiler warnings but a lot of people say) he complained the IR didn't work right.

He was having too many problems with the controls, I bet it took him longer than most.

I don't know how anyone can take the Gamespot review seriously. Movie fans will know the name Armond White. This dude seems like he wants to be his equivalent.

Isn't that the guy who gave Toy Story 3 a bad review?

Zelda and Skyrim were not reviewed by the same person.

He's the one who always reviews against the trend, yes.

did they rush out through Skyrim?

Just think of it like this:

'EVERY' major website gets to finish the game in time, GS, which is probably the biggest one after IGN, doesn't have time to finish Skyward Sword in time.

Will you be back at all to answer some questions? (though I guess if you answer this, then the answer will be yes, haha)

Reviewers really need to decide whether or not being a retread counts against something.

I don't care either way but that criticism applies to 90% of AAA titles and is brought up very selectively.

What do you have to say about your complain over the infrared aiming, which the game hasn't?

you seem to be the most emotionally invested person atm :P

I'm buying all the big names games (and probably all the turds too!) and i can happily call the shitty ones shit, because i'm not invested ! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :D

Reviews are for suckers!

WHO ARE "THEY"

I figure Gamespot is just looking for clicks. But hey, maybe it is just an average game, and a bad Zelda title at that. I'll find out next month!

Yeah, it was a fine review. I just find it hard to believe that the outcry (read: attention) over Uncharted 3's 8/10 and Twilight Princess' 8.8 didn't have a heavy hand in bumping it from the 8 range down into the 7s.

I don't have any issue with people disagreeing with a review, but I think it's funny how many instantly jump on it for "trolling" or "begging for hits."

A 10 is a rarer score than a 7.5, more out of the ordinary, but the 10s SS received didn't seem to garner the same sort of attention.

I would also like to know what the IR thing was about, though.
