Another thought - this death doesn't have to be any more "permanent" than Clark's this ep.

It is Smallville after all.
Well it's supposed to be a life-force transference, so I doubt the loser would somehow get more. However, as I stated before, someone would have to already have died for Clark to be currently alive...

Or maybe it's a metaphor symbolizing the death of "good" Lex![/wild speculation]

Man. I was pretty disappointed with it. The logic just carries on being all over the place. I loved the first two episodes but this whole death scene bit and the logic behind him being brought back to life was just dumb.

I think Chloe's the one to die. She was the one he was trying to save that started the whole fiasco. And out of the cast, she's the one that makes the most sense to die, well next to pa kent. Seeming how she is in no other timeline or comic continuity.

Eh, I think Chloe works a good angle into the story (one that worked well with Pete) in that she knows about his abilities now and they can talk openly about it. It's a good dynamic that works better than simply Clark and his family knowing.

Just got home and watched it on my PVR, the beginning of the ep had me in AW! lol I hardly EVER feel like that with a show other then "24". It has to be one of THE best Smallville eps IMO :D

Just out of curiosity. I'm not a Superman reader, I know the basic story. Were the characters from the Smallville series ever in the comics? ie: Pete, Chloe, Lana? I'm more curious about Lana, and what happened between her and Clark that made him go for Lois :D

Pete and Lana were both from the comics, and Chole was made up. Clark left Lana to go explore the world to try to find his place in the world or what not before going to Metropolis.

Pete was just a childhood friend of Clark's, who was informed about the Superman thing when he was Vice President. Lana and Pete were married, but are getting divorced. They had a kid named Clark, which probably didn't help ease Pete's mind all that much.

whoa there... Pete became Vice President?! Is there a website or something that I can read up on all the back stories?

Maybe the person Kal-El loved that had to die was...you know...Clark? Jor-El is sneaky like that, and his main goal has always been to push the human side of Clark out of Kal-El.

I swear to god this is EXACTLY what I was saying to the wife. she doesn't believe me but I think this is what it is. The human side had to die. Clark now understands he has no chance to ever be normal (a theme they have been playing up for 4 seasons now). If this is the case it stands to really take this show to the next level.

hope we are right.

I will have to buy the entire series when it is complete on DVD... I just forget or don't have time to watch it...

I watch maybe 3-4 episodes last season and missed everything so far...

So Clark was shot, his father took away his powers (was that similar to the chamber in Superman II?), he's banging Lana... missed much huh?

Actually, this makes sense. This would sort of play into the whole story that Kal-Els real identity is Superman and he puts on the costume when he becomes Clark Kent.

However, didn't Jor-El say one of his *friends* would have to die?

I thought he said "someone you love" or "someone close to you." I don't remember Jor-El saying "friend."

Also, I have a feeling that this will be the story arc for the entire season. My guess is that either one of his parents or Chloe gets the axe in the season finale.

Are you not YOUR best friend? Now that I hear this I think that might be what happened. and actually I think Jor-El said 'someone that you love', but I could be wrong.

Human Clark had to die so that Kryptonion Kal-El could live. Life Force tranferred, consequences suffered, transaction complete.

Is this the last season of Smallville? I seen the first 2 missed 3/4 of the third and basically caught the last 3 eps of the 4th. I have so much to get caught up on

no, not last season and I believe they are signed through next season. could be wrong though.

if they aren't signed already, WB is ecstatic about thursday nights performance. While numbers so far have been lower on Smallville than previous years, they have given the WB its highest Thursday night numbers ever.

When asked about how many seasons the producers felt smallville had, they said seven sounds like a good number. that would be two more seasons after this one.

Although accolades go to CBS’ combination of Survivor: Guatemala, CSI and Without A Trace for another outstanding Thursday victory, kudos to WB as well for considerable year-to-year growth. Versus the comparable year-ago night, the WB’s revamped combination of Smallville and Everwood was up by 5 million viewers, and as much as 120 percent among adults 18-34 (2.2/ 7).

Except when Clarks parents asked if he used protection, he said yeah. But who knows maybe his sperm are still super even if he wasn't and busted through that rubber! :lol

That was exactly my train of thought.
