The reveal thread is 3k+ posts and feelings are pretty mixed, so let's find the consensus.

Were you looking forward to ND's new game? After the reveal, are you interested in the game or not?

Not enough information. That trailer was terrible and told us nothing about the game and what it's about. Or how it plays. I need to see more about thr actual game and story. And get a better sense of how much Druckman inserted his worldview into it.

Yes. Hopefully we gonna get some gameplay soon. We only see 4mins of teaser and I'll reserve my judgement after seeing more reveals.

Maybe they'll win me over later, but right now everything about that trailer inspires a stinky cheese face from me.

I'm not an anti-woke crusader. It's just every bit looks like a tired trope. Retro future, bounty hunter MC, girl boss, ligh Saber against robots, quippy dialogue, mystery place that no one comes back from, etc.

I actively choose to make girl characters in RPGs. My Shepherd was Jennifer Hale. I played and loved Kassandra in Odyssey. But the shaved head girl boss meme is just...ughk.

Yep.

As usual, Naughty Dog is looking to raise the bar here and will be another massive hit when it's all said and done and elevate what the industry can achieve.

I am expecting some really great things from this IP and it's more appealing to me personally than TLOU from a gameplay and narrative perspective. I feel like this title will combine their great shooting mechanics with improved melee, may even make the game a Souls-like title, and there's just a lot more potential for enemy variety, fluid/fast gameplay, and depth than their previous titles. They can really spread their wings with the lack of limitations from a Sci-Fi game.

The cast looks to be superb, art direction is fantastic, and Neil has proven that he knows what it takes to make compelling narrative choices. The main character will likely win a lot of people over with time, and they have Lalo Salamanca coming in to support who is going to steal the show.

I just played last of us for the first time and I was blown away. So as of now I am assuming I will get it sooner than 10 years after release lol. Made me a fan overnight. The last nd game I played was half of uncharted 2 and it was boring.

Before then we'll be seeing gameplay, though. Melee action is tricky because some developers think they got it in them when they really don't. Once I can see the gameplay, there's only so much I'll be able to tell, but it will be a lot more info than nothing at all.

God of War and Stellar Blade are good examples of the developers seemingly being aware of their limits/experience and not trying to outdo platinum right out of the gate. I would guess nd would fit in like that. Do a bit of your own thing but anchor the core of the fighting to key actions.

Spider Man is safe because they have his mobility to spice up the fights. I hope nd doesn't do that. Well, spider man is fine but still I'd be let down a bit.

Or does nd really have some great talent for sword-fighting action that we've never seen? That would be a lot to ask for.

Nobody does it like the Japanese. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sorry not sorry.

Speaking of sorry not sorry, most people are clueless about action gameplay. I barely know anything but I know the difference between input lag and startup frames. (stellar blade parry, remember?)

Lou had some really basic stealth and shooting that was executed perfectly to be accessible for normies but still satisfying just enough for hardcore players. That is obviously deliberate so whatever direction they end up going, I am sure they will be trying to hit that balance.

Good luck trying to find a consensus, op. All we've seen is one introductory cut scene, and it's triggering the fuck out of people thanks to the culture war zeitgeist. You might want to wait a bit for that consensus. Like when the sequel is coming out.

Hell no at first but....
Based on what I know right now. Character driven story in an alternate universe set in the 80s ,but with space ships....

Hell yes

The 80s vibe and theme might just win me over depending on how the rest of the game is. The main character is the only bad thing about it but will definitely be able to overlook that if the rest of the game is awesome and kept a hard 80s feel.

Think they are going to put a lot of the 80s style themes into it like Dynatron, Noir Deco, Perturbator etc. Something I was hoping Cyberpunk 2077 would have but didn't. The theme in this trailer already sounds like something from Dynatron. Music theme but 80s style characters, vibes, style, and themes would make me be on board fully depending on how much and well they do it.

Its Naughty Dog sci-fi inspired by Akira with a Trent Reznor OST. Its probably going to have some cool stuff in there.

I really wind up on the opposite of GAF's loudest opinions every time it seems.

No guaranteed yes or no, but likely, I love sci-fi, adore the 80s, love that 80s cassette futurism style, so very likely. But who knows it may just end up not being my type of game, I’m not feeling the protag either but that’s not going to determine whether or not I buy the game. Other things will.

I've seen a few mentions of guardians of the galaxy. Obvious comparison with the retro stuff and the lighter tone.

I saw one of those movies once. It was painful. I was blown away that adults watch this stuff. I've never seen any of these other superhero movies so the general wretchedness of it all was new and shocking.

That had nothing to do with the retro future aesthetic, though. Lou was written and performed about 900 times better than that gog movie. Similarities are most likely going to turn out superficial. Case in point; people complaining about quippy dialogue in the trailer. But what quippy dialog? Two characters had a sparse, low-energy exchange.
