Your girlfriend reaction was a logical not like the ones i have been reading on this thread. I dont care about the modern audiences. The character likeness is based on a real woman. If you dont like her looks that is fine. But starting shit about wokeness just for that is dumb.
So let's say we get a Game of Thrones 3rd-person action RPG and as main character we get to play Joffrey Baratheon.

Is he well written character? Yes, absolutely.

Is he based on a real human? Yes, he could be based on Jack Gleeson who is an amazing actor.

Is it a good choice for a main character? Hell no!

Same goes for thr bald chick in Intergalactic.

I don't doubt that she's a well written character. The actress she's based on is a talented and attractive young woman.

But making this character a protagonist in a AAAA video game that will release in 2 years is a grave mistake by Naughty Dog and PlayStation management.

No idea. All I can say is that the trailer was underwhelming and didn’t sell me on the concept at all. The ending snippet with the big sword and combat tease didn’t look like anything I’d be interested in playing either as I don’t enjoy games with Dark Souls type combat (if that’s what is implied).

But the game might as well be years away, I need to see more.

Losing 15-20% potential buyers already (if this poll reflects gaming community as a whole)

LOL if you think this poll that's currently been answered by 230 people relates in any way to how things will play out in real life. It could be 100% yes or 100% no that they'd buy the game and it'd still mean nothing in relation to the actual performance of this game.

I don't like the main character so far because it feels like they've done again the old "let's make a perfect role for a main character, but let's make it a chick for our progressive value)", but Naughty Dog is one of my favorite developers and I have no doubt this game will be spectacular. I will play it for sure, the question is whether I will be buying it at launch or wait.

You're kinda right. Naughty Dog has many developers who are woke. That much is clear. In this particular case, that actress is real. They got her likeness (and her voice) as is. They had already worked with her on Uncharted, so it is more likely that they really liked her performance.

Now had they hired a "traditionally beautiful" actress like Sydney Sweeney and then removed her hair and made her look like this, then it would have deserved all the criticism.
It still deserves criticism because it unnecessary to make every female look like she has a dick and is more manly than 50% of the GAF males.

If they reveal that it's "create a character" and the gameplay looks good, maybe.

If it's narrative focus around the characters we've seen, nah.

Topher

Identifies as young
Maybe discussions on non-binary and more push-ups from those who mess up :p

lol....seriously. Veilguard set the "woke" bar pretty damn high relative to where this game is right now. Hell, Returnal is just a notch below by virtue of the character being white. Gawd dang female astronauts. kidding of course

You make sense to an extent. But not quite.

the creators are the only ones that know if an actor is suitable for the character they are trying to present and if such character is the protagonist. We just dont know what story the developers are trying to Tell, nor the ideas they are trying to convey and the limited characters presented how they relate and what is their purpose. So, I think dismissing a game just because you didnt like the trailer or the character is way too early. We only have seen 4 minutes of its entirety of an unfinished product.

Naughty Dog has consistently made excellent games for decades so a new series is always of interest. The teaser was lacklustre but we haven’t really seen what’s in store yet.

I don't like the trailer, don't like the ugly character (and robot-boss too), don't buy this shit.
It could be the end of Naughty Dog as studio.

Dog Whistle ( Again )

There is only one reason ( well a few reasons but we know the actual reason ) why someone would be able to make up their mind about buying or not buying this game from the cinematic trailer.

Sidenote: you people are going to drive yourselves insane with this mess & I pray that it doesn't lead to bad things happening in the gaming industry because the silliness triggers some weak minded individual to do something stupid.

Well at least it historically very rarely translated into a buy for me when I found initial showings of a game unappealing on every level.
Maybe Incredible gameplay saves it, but I'd not bet on that with ND.

I see where you're coming from.

Think about this:

Humans are doing this entertainment thing for thousands of years.

There are well established rules for main characters. These exist because the main character makes or breaks the entire experience.

There are good stories with great main character but shitty plot. But there are no good stories with great plot and shitty main character.

Main characters need to have certain traits in order for the audience to connect:

Vulnerability: Think of Sherlock Holmes who is ridiculously intelligent but also socially awkward.

Kindness: Like Gru in Despicable Me who is an asshole but then adopts three children.

Humor: Deadpool is violent and has questionable morals. He also looks like a zombie. But he has humor so people like him.

Redemption (the most effective): Tony Stark starts as an arrogant fuck, but his constant acts of self-sacrifice win the audience over. He ends up as the main character of a team of main characters.

None of these traits are seen in the trailer.

Instead we get an alienating harsh character that reeks of pure in-your-face arrogance without clear reason. Nothing about her fits a main character.

I don't know what Neil's plan is, but so far it's not working.

I think it will be a much darker game than that reveal showed off. Trent Reznor doing the soundtrack says enough.
And of course Druckmann directing it..

He’s a big Bloodborne fan as well, so I’m curious if they lean more into that type of gameplay this time (they already prototyped something like that with TLOU2).

Maybe?!?

I need to see the game. I don't trust reviewers after Veilguard, and I definitely don't trust Druckmann, but Naughty Dog has more hits than misses. Once it comes out I will take a careful look and decide.

"Intergalactic - The Heretic Prophet" -- What a stupid name. Sounds like the name of a comic that a seventh grader is writing and then it falls out of his bookbag and a bully sees it and then stuffs him in a locker.

Uncharted 4 and TlOuoiiuU2 were both shitty sequels to games that I had enjoyed so it's gonna be a no from me (naughty) dog.

We haven’t seen any gameplay so it’s wait and see for me.

I have to say this character kill any hype for me so i hope we can see more of the gameplay soon…

Was looking forward to seeing what they had cooking because the rumor was it's something new (if the reveal was another TLOU I would have noped out immediately, have no interest in that series whatsoever), but the reveal trailer actually hooked me and I'm paying close attention to what's coming out of this game.

The trailer was awful but I'll give ND the benefit of a doubt. They haven't let me down so far. I loved Uncharted and TloU 1 + 2 so hopefully they have their shit together. But I won't blindly just pre-order it because of ND. I'll need to see a lot more to make an informed decision.

Of course i will, i never gave much of a fuck about nd stories and characters so the idea of controlling a bald goblin in what is gonna be a derivative, shitty guardian of the galaxy re-hash doesn't really stop me at all if the production values, animations and combat are at least decent.

You think i replayed tlou2 3 times for the fucking plot or writing?! :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
