Sonic Lost World Launches on Steam November 2nd.

hey if it means the game will stay at 60 fps unlike recent certain AAA titles then yeah it's worth advertising

No, they're saying the Wii U version doesn't stay at 60...which it does. That's kinda the whole issue with them touting it as a feature. It's not a new thing.

I'm waiting for confirmation on 4K being supported before pulling the trigger on this. :-)
Supports any resolution, though 16:10 resolutions have black bars, interface doesn't scale properly also.

No anti-aliasing options at all, though still have to check if it can be forced through drivers.
Window mode is also not working properly, the window size is smaller than it should be.

Just tried it, the port is pretty alright.
This is the 1st Sonic game to not have a launcher that you need to change the settings, all of the graphics setting are actually in the game, which is good.
All of the new assets, like the Xbox buttons and the steam profile picture on the title screen are incredibly low quality.
The video setting are very basic, only resolution, fullscreen on/off (Borderless, no exclusive option at all), DOF on/off, Grass on/off, and shadows on/off.
The rest is all the same as the Wii U version.
Annoyingly, I couldn't get it to downsample.

While true, not everyone is down to clown with emulation and likes to keep their software purchases legit.
Emulating backups of your own games is 'legit' afaik. But I see what you mean, it would be nice if people had a cheap and easy way to play Colors on their PC without needing to own a softmodded Wii.

It doesn't. It holds 60 most of the time, but the frame rate does drop and on rare occasions, gets cut in half.

Good to know this sounds like a solid port. I'll probably grab it down the road. Would love to play it again at higher resolutions and at a consistent frame rate.

Still baffled by the fact that they even decided to port this.
What is baffling about it? From what I read the game doesn't get Sonic 06/Boom levels of hate, in fact I read a lot of positive things towards it. Also, porting it to be PC will probably be worth the costs, the Sonic fanbase is huge and lots of people don't have Wii Us. Also, while I haven't played Lost World yet, it can't be worse than certain things SEGA ported before.

For Nvidia users, SGSSAA works using the same flag as Sonic Generations, 0x084010C5

Pictures at 1440x900, 1920x1200 and 2880x1800, taken with 4x SGSSAA.

Downsampling using Nvidia DSR is messy though, the game scales very poorly.
Pic below downsampling from 1920x1200 to 1440x900.

Framerate wise, if the framerate goes below 60fps, the game slows down (framerate went down to the mid 30s for me with 4x SGSSAA at 2880x1800, using a Phenom II X4 955 and a Geforce GTX960).

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. :-)

I'm not going to get into the legality issue with emulation because honestly I'm not in the mood, and I'll be the first to recognize emulation as being important for archival purposes.

But it's just not a valid alternate option for most people. You need a beastly PC to get something playable and even then things can be shaky due to inaccurate emulation.

I haven't been into PC gaming for close to a decade so maybe I'm not the best judge of these things, but it seems that clicking "Buy Now" in a Steam client or similar is just a much better option for the average user than emulation.

Any chance you have a tutorial for that? because that's a lot of letters and words that I don't totally understand, but I have a GTX980 and would love to get that going.
Need to use a tool called Nvidia Inspector (have to download it separately), create a profile for Lost World (star marked in the icons at the top), add slw.exe to the profile (the other marked icon at the top), and change the settings marked as red in the picture.

So how well optimized is this port?
Is it better than Generations or worse?
I'd say it's comparable or slightly better than the Sonic Adventure 2 port, it's tied to 60fps (lower framerate results in slowdown), and has few graphics options (no AA, though can be manually fixed at least for Nvidia users). Runs smoothly at least (depending on the PC).

So far my biggest problem is that window mode is borked at least for me, putting the game in a window smaller than the chosen resolution (at least for 1280x720).

So if my computer could run SA2 HD it can run this?
It's kind of low spec but it can run some things decently.

I'm not sure, the weakest PC where I've tried it runs pretty well (Core 2 Duo E7400, Radeon HD6850, though only tried at 1440x900).

Quite a decent game, not 60$ decent though, I never got the hate this game gets, maybe its because people expected Mario galaxy quality with Sonic like pacing, and it turned out to be neither. Still, glad its on steam, its a much better game than Zombi.

I have always felt that two different people designed the levels in Sonic Lost World.
The first half was made by some awesome level designer. Then he was like "hey, I need someone to make the rest of the levels... look at mine and try to make them similar."
But then the second guy screwed up.

This is the only explanation I can think of why the level design falls off a cliff in the last half. Either that or they were rushed.

Glad people are enjoying the game this time around. I thought it was brilliant since it's Wii U release - if a little flawed.

Taken on it's own merits Lost World is a fairly decent title that at least had it's heart in the right place when it came to trying to find a new base for Sonic. Problem is when you have a product like Generations that clearly resonated with a lot of people it's going to be really hard for many to swallow a complete overhaul, especially when the Sonic series has already been woefully inconsistent in trying for reinvention, and even though Lost World had a lot of ideas right, true enough it did not do it as well as it could.

Of course, I'm one of the few people who didn't care at all for the Unleashed/Generations style game play since I didn't find the exhilaration worth either the frustrating parts or the months of man hours required to build a one-hour long game. I only enjoyed that formula with Colors, partially cause that game slowed things the fuck down in comparison and ended up being more varied, so I'm probably a little biased in preferring Lost World. If nothing else I feel like the game has a lot more potential for expansion once you heavily refine the controls, make a better playing field and come up with some more original set pieces. And maaaaaybe increase the speed, just by a little.

2016 should be interesting for Sonic now that the main team has had three years since Lost World to develop the new mainline game, which is a bit more than what they usually take in developing them. Plus it's his 25th Anniversary and they usually end up treating every fifth year with a big release.

How bad is this game on a escale of 0 to -9?

If i had to give it a number rating it would be a solid 8/10 or perhaps a high 7. There's room for improvement but at the end of the day it's an enjoyable 3D platformer with a lot of level variation. Boss themed levels do wear a bit thin though and certain abilities aren't explained all that well.

Wow, from the game's announcement to about two seconds ago, I had it in my head that SEGA was porting Sonic Boom and not Sonic Lost World. I was kind of wondering why the general consensus shifted more toward acceptance of this port when the impressions of Sonic Boom were so overwhelmingly negative in every aspect...

Maybe I will actually get it, then... Though I still want the Wii U version for the Yoshi and Zelda freebies.

If you have a Wii U I don't think there's much of a reason not to get that version instead since you can probably find the game in a bargain bin and resolution options seems to be the only advantage that the PC version has. Well, that and using a regular controller, which considering the game's tricky controls it ought to be a lot more favorable. Supposedly the PC version has better controls in general but I feel like there needs to be some more impressions on that.

Game runs in windowed fullscreen, I can't find exclusive fullscreen mode. Downsampling resolutions don't work as intended because the game fits the higher resolution with nearest filter.
